The sandbird octopus Amphioctopus aegina (Gray,1849) is one of the important octopod species in trawl catches in Mandapam waters (Palk Bay). The reproductive biology of this species from these waters was studied from October 2001to September 2002. In the majority of months(Jan-June), the sex ratio was biased towards males. The ratios of males to females increased consistently with respect to weight Total weight at first maturity were 78.78g for females and 40.8 g for males. Four maturity stags were recognized for females and two for males. Maturation and spawning occur all year round, with a peak during October and another peak during January-February. In males, no definite seasonal changes were observed in gonadosomatic index (GSI) values. In females there were two peaks in GSI values during October and January-February. For individuals of a DML range of 67-85 mm fecundity varied between 2,962-8,820 oocytes. The average relative fecundity was estimated at 68 to 83 and the average number oocytes per gram of ovary were 488 to 539.
Hepatic Steatosis Preventing Activities of Auricularia auricula-judae Ethanol Extract
Naila Boby,Woo-Sik Jo,Seung-Chun Park 한국버섯학회 2017 버섯 Vol.21 No.2
In order to examine the hypolipidemic and hepatic steatosis preventing activities, we investigated mechanism of Auricularia auricula-judae 70% ethanol extract (AAE) in vivo and in vitro. Normal diet (ND) and high fat diet (HFD) with or without 0.1% (w/w), 0.3% (w/w) and 1% (w/w) AAE were given to male C57BL/6 mice. Plasma lipids and liver enzymes were measured and tissue sections of liver were examined. Further mechanistic studies in mouse 3T3-L1 adipocytes were performed in vitro by verifying triglyceride, glycerol, GPDH (glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) activity and mRNA expression of adipogenic and lipogenic genes using RT-PCR amplification. Body weight and adipose tissue mass were significantly reduced in ND and (HFD plus AAE) fed mice compared to HFD mice. These findings suggest that AAE may reduce the risk of hepatic steatosis by modulating plasma lipids via the regulation of adipogenic/lipogenic transcriptional factors. AAE may have interesting applications to improve plasma lipids and liver enzymes (A part of results have been published in Int J Med Mushrooms).

This study is carried out to compare ingredients and antioxidant activity of Bokryeong, Poria cocos wolf, cultivated in the landfill and facility. Comparisons of the composition of the landfill and facility Bokryeong were conducted in the first and second year. As a result, there was no statistically significant difference in all four components (oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen). In the second year, GC-MS analysis was carried out using the extracts containing ginseng epidermis, using the samples taken from the Gangwon-do area in the first year and the second year. As a result, 1,3-Dihydroxyacetone dimer, 2-Furancarboxaldehyde, and Acetaldehyde were detected in the landfill Bokryeong. 2-Furancarboxaldehyde and Acetaldehyde contents were higher in facility Bokryeng. In biological activity assay, The anti-inflammatory of the landfill Bokryeng and facility Bokryeng were compared by using Raw 267.4 cell lines. As a result, it was confirmed that both of them had anti-inflammatory, but no difference was found.

Effects of Low Grade Axial Loading on Discogenic Low Back Pain: A Case Report
Chang, Duncan,Boby, Arantxa,Madonna, James International Academy of Physical Therapy Research 2018 Journal of International Academy of Physical Ther Vol.9 No.4
Low back pain (LBP) is the most common reason for seeking physical therapy (PT) care. Recent studies suggest that axial loading can have a positive impact on the intervertebral disc by improving its tensile strength. Further, whole body vibration (WBV) appears to improve spinal muscle relaxation. Therefore, this case study describes the use of axial loading using a mini-trampoline in a female with chronic LBP. This case report is a single subject design. This patient is a 29-year-old female with a six-month history of low back pain following a motor vehicle accident. MRI found herniated discs at L4 and L5, clinical tests were positive for pain in the L4 and L5 dermatome and myotome the slump test was positive for neural tension, and LBP was constant at 4-6/10 over the past four months. She received axial loading exercises using a mini-trampoline and performed six sessions that were, scheduled twice a week for three weeks. Her Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score improved from 40% at the time of her first visit to 22% at her final visit. Pain measure on the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) after the first treatment was 7/10, and her pain after the final treatment was 0/10. These changes in the pain scores are clinically significant and exceed the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). This patient had a significant improvement in her pain using the NPRS and the ODI. This case study suggests that axial loading may be an effective treatment for some individuals with discogenic chronic low back pain.
Morphometric and genetic diversity of Rasbora several species from farmed and wild stocks
Bambang Retnoaji,Boby Muslimin,Arif Wibowo,Ike Trismawanti 한국수산과학회 2023 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.26 No.9
The morphology and genetic identification of Rasbora lateristriata and Rasbora argyrotaenia between cultivated and wild populations has never been reported. This study compares morphology and cytochrome c oxidase (COI) genes between farmed and wild stock Rasbora spp. in Java and Sumatra island, Indonesia. We analyzed the truss network measurement (TNM) characters of 80 fish using discriminant function analysis statistical tests. DNA was extracted from muscle tissue of 24 fish specimens, which was then followed by polymerase chain reaction, sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, fixation index analysis, and statistical analysis of haplotype networks. Basic Local Alignment Search Tool analysis validated the following species: R. lateristriata and R. argyrotaenia from farming (Jogjakarta); Rasbora agryotaenia (Purworejo), R. lateristriata (Purworejo and Malang), Rasbora dusonensis (Palembang), and Rasbora einthovenii (Riau) from natural resources. Based on TNM characters, Rasbora spp. were divided into four groups, referring to four distinct characters in the middle of the body. The phylogenetic tree is divided into five clades. The genetic distance between R. argyrotaenia (Jogjakarta) and R. lateristriata (Malang) populations (0.66) was significantly different (p < 0.05). R. lateristriata (Purworejo) has the highest nucleotide diversity (0.43). R. argyrotaenia from Jogjakarta and Purworejo shared the same haplotype. The pattern of gene flow among them results from the two populations’ close geographic proximity and environmental effects. R. argyrotaenia had low genetic diversity, therefore, increasing heterozygosity in cultivated populations is necessary to avoid inbreeding. Otherwise, R. lateristriata (Purworejo) had a greater gene variety that could be used to develop breeding. In conclusion, the middle body parts are a distinguishing morphometric character of Rasbora spp., and the COI gene is more heterozygous in the wild population than in farmed fish, therefore, enrichment of genetic variation is required for sustainable Rasbora fish farming.

Flutter and weight characteristics of composite curved wing were investigated in this study. The efficient and robust system for the flutter and weight optimization of general composite curved wing models has been developed using the coupled computational method based on the micro genetic algorithm. Micro genetic algorithm is used as an alternative to overcome the relatively poor exploitation characteristics of the standard genetic algorithm. The results show that the micro genetic algorithm is efficiently obtaining minimum weight for the same level of flutter dynamic pressure on wing structures. The results also show that the structural weight of curved wing model can be significantly reduced using composite materials with proper optimum lamination design for the relatively same flutter dynamic pressure.
