Cancer immune evasion is one of the hallmarks of carcinogenesis. Cancer cells employ multiple mechanisms to avoid immune recognition and suppress antitumor immune responses. Recently, accumulating evidence has indicated that immune-related pathways are epigenetically dysregulated in cancer. Most importantly, the epigenetic footprint of immune-related pathways is associated with the patient outcome, underscoring the crucial need to understand this process. In this review, we summarize the current evidence for epigenetic regulation of immune-related pathways in cancer and describe bioinformatics tools, informative visualization techniques, and resources to help decipher the cancer epigenome.
The Power of Nonverbal Chunks in Language Teaching

Communication is not simply the exchange of verbal expressions between or among people. In other words, it is not only a language activity. Communication always takes place in a context which includes physical, social, temporal, and other nonverbal elements. Movies give context to language teaching and to language acquisition. Movies are not only a great source of natural expressions in a certain language; they are also great sources of nonverbal, contextual information. L2 teaching, however, almost always focuses on the use of language itself. After all, the students are in the classroom to learn language. A greater cognizance of the wealth of and importance of nonverbal strategies employed by movie directors as well as movie actors can lead to stronger motivation and more successful outcomes in the language acquisition process. Kang (2000) has proposed that the teaching of nonverbal communication skills be included in the EFL curriculum. This paper focuses on the nonverbal strategies that may be employed by L2 teachers as well as learners, with a special emphasis on the role that movies can play in demonstrating particular nonverbal strategies. Movies are also a great source of nonverbal chunks that provide important contextual cues about language usage.
Super-resolution Optical Measurement of Nanoscale Photoacid Distribution in Lithographic Materials

<P>We demonstrate a method using photoactivation localization microscopy (PALM) in a soft-material system, with a rhodamine-lactam dye that is activated by both ultraviolet light and protonation, to reveal the nanoscale photoacid distribution in a model photoresist. Chemically amplified resists are the principal lithographic materials used in the semiconductor industry. The photoacid distribution generated upon exposure and its subsequent evolution during post-exposure bake is a major limiting factor in determining the resolution and lithographic quality of the final developed resist image. Our PALM data sets resolve the acid distribution in a latent image with subdiffraction limit accuracy. Next-generation transgenic mice for optogenetic analysis of neural circuits

<P>Here we characterize several new lines of transgenic mice useful for optogenetic analysis of brain circuit function. These mice express optogenetic probes, such as enhanced halorhodopsin or several different versions of channelrhodopsins, behind various neuron-specific promoters. These mice permit photoinhibition or photostimulation both <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I>. Our results also reveal the important influence of fluorescent tags on optogenetic probe expression and function in transgenic mice.</P>
