      • Recent developments and challenges in welding of magnesium to titanium alloys

        Auwal, S.T.,Ramesh, S.,Tan, Caiwang,Zhang, Zequn,Zhao, Xiaoye,Manladan, S.M. Techno-Press 2019 Advances in materials research Vol.8 No.1

Joining of Mg/Ti hybrid structures by welding for automotive and aerospace applications has attracted great attention in recent years due mainly to its potential benefit of energy saving and emission reduction. However, joining them has been hampered with many difficulties due to their physical and metallurgical incompatibilities. Different joining processes have been employed to join Mg/Ti, and in most cases in order to get a metallurgical bonding between them was the use of an intermediate element at the interface or mutual diffusion of alloying elements from the base materials. The formation of a reaction product (in the form of solid solution or intermetallic compound) along the interface between the Mg and Ti is responsible for formation of a metallurgical bond. However, the interfacial bonding achieved and the joints performance depend significantly on the newly formed reaction product(s). Thus, a thorough understanding of the interaction between the selected intermediate elements with the base metals along with the influence of the associated welding parameters are essential. This review is timely as it presents on the current paradigm and progress in welding and joining of Mg/Ti alloys. The factors governing the welding of several important techniques are deliberated along with their joining mechanisms. Some opportunities to improve the welding of Mg/Ti for different welding techniques are also identified.

APPROXIMATION OF ZEROS OF SUM OF MONOTONE MAPPINGS WITH APPLICATIONS TO VARIATIONAL INEQUALITY AND IMAGE RESTORATION PROBLEMS

Abubakar Adamu,Jitsupa Deepho,Abdulkarim Hassan Ibrahim,Auwal Bala Abubakar 경남대학교 수학교육과 2021 Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Applications Vol.26 No.2

In this paper, an inertial Halpern-type forward backward iterative algorithm for approximating solution of a monotone inclusion problem whose solution is also a fixed point of some nonlinear mapping is introduced and studied. Strong convergence theorem is established in a real Hilbert space. Furthermore, our theorem is applied to variational inequality problems, convex minimization problems and image restoration problems. Finally, numerical illustrations are presented to support the main theorem and its applications.

A THREE-TERM INERTIAL DERIVATIVE-FREE PROJECTION METHOD FOR CONVEX CONSTRAINED MONOTONE EQUATIONS

Supansa Noinakorn,Abdukarim Hassan Ibrahim,Auwal Bala Abubakar,Nuttapol Pakkaranang 경남대학교 수학교육과 2021 Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Applications Vol.26 No.4

Let $\mathfrak{R}^n$ be an Euclidean space and $ g: \mathfrak{R}^n \rightarrow \mathfrak{R}^n$ be a monotone and continuous mapping. Suppose the convex constrained nonlinear monotone equation problem $x \in \mathfrak{C} ~\text{s.t} ~ g(x) = 0$ has a solution. In this paper, we construct an inertial-type algorithm based on the three-term derivative-free projection method (TTMDY) for convex constrained monotone nonlinear equations. Under some standard assumptions, we establish its global convergence to a solution of the convex constrained nonlinear monotone equation. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm converges much faster than the existing non-inertial algorithm (TTMDY) for convex constrained monotone equations.

Sub-acute toxicity study on hydromethanolic leaves extract of Combretum hypopilinum (Combretaceae) Diels in Wistar rats

        Ahmad Mubarak Hussaini,Zezi Abdulkadir Umar,Anafi Sherifat Bola,Alshargi Omar Yahya,Mohammed Mustapha,Mustapha Sagir,Bala Auwal Adam,Muhammad Surajuddeen,Julde Sa’adatu Muhammad,Wada Abubakar Sadiq,Ja 한국독성학회 2022 Toxicological Research Vol.38 No.4

The plant Combretum hypopilinum Diels (Combretaceae) has been utilized in Nigeria and other African nations to treat many diseases including liver, inflammatory, gastrointestinal, respiratory, infectious diseases, epilepsy and many more. Pharmacological investigations have shown that the plant possesses anti-infective, antidiarrhoeal, hepatoprotective, antiinflammatory, anticancer, sedative, antioxidant, and antiepileptic potentials. However, information on its toxicity profile is unavailable despite the plant's therapeutic potential. As such, this work aimed to determine the acute and sub-acute oral toxic effects of the hydromethanolic leaves extract of C. hypopilinum. The preliminary phytochemical evaluation was carried out based on standard procedures. The acute toxicity evaluation was conducted by oral administration of the extract at the dose of 5000 mg/kg based on the guideline of the Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) 423. To investigate the sub-acute toxicity effects, the extract was administered orally to the animals daily for 28-consecutive days at the doses of 250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg. Mortality, body weight and relative organ weight were observed. The hepatic, renal, haematological, and lipid profile parameters were investigated. The liver, kidney, heart, lung, small intestine, and stomach were checked for any histopathological alterations. The results of the phytochemical investigation showed cardiac glycosides, tannins, steroids, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and triterpenes. Based on the acute toxicity investigation outcome, no death and signs of toxic effects were observed. The result showed that the oral median lethal dose ( LD50) of the extract was more than the 5000 mg/kg. The extract remarkably reduced the weekly body weight of the animals at 500 mg/kg in the first and second weeks. It also significantly decreased the relative kidney weight, alkaline phosphatase, glucose, potassium, and low-density lipoprotein. There was a remarkable elevation in the percentage of eosinophils, basophils, monocytes, and granulocyte. There were histopathological abnormalities on the kidney, lung, stomach, and small intestine. The extract is relatively safe on acute exposure but moderately toxic at higher doses on sub-acute administration, particularly to the kidney.

Leea macrophylla (Roxb.) root extract reverses CCl4 induced liver injury through upregulation of antioxidative gene expression: a molecular interaction for therapeutic inception

Md. Rakibul Hassan Bulbul,Md. Atiar Rahman,Md. Zillur Rahman,Talha Bin Emran,Mirola Afroze,Mala Khan,Muhammad Abid Hasan Chowdhury,Mohammed Auwal Ibrahim,Mohammed Sohel Chowdhury 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2020 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.20 No.1

This study investigated the restorative effect of Leea macrophylla ethanol root extract (LMERE) in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatic injury. It also tried to unfold the underlying mechanism through ligand-receptor interactions. Prior to conduct the CCl4 induced animal model study, the in vitro antioxidative capacities of LMERE were investigated. Gas chromatography mass spectroscopy (GC–MS) was accomplished to identify the prevalent bioactive compounds. The molecular docking was performed using Schrödinger Suites 2017-1. Results showed the promising antioxidative potentials of LMERE in in vitro models. Upon treatment of CCl4 intoxicated animals with LMERE, serum ALT and AST were found to be significantly (p < 0.05) reduced compared to the CCl4 control while LMERE50 was noted as the best dose in restoring the hepatic markers. Serum lipids and total protein were significantly restored compared to control. Remarkable changes of cell necrosis, apoptosis and sinusoidal dilution were noticed in histopathological assay of liver tissue. mRNA expression for superoxide dismutase (SOD1) and catalase was multifold increased which are statistically significant compared to reference drug, silymarin. In docking study, octadecanoic acid showed the lowest binding energy and highest binding affinity with the protein (ID: 1VKX) which is a crystallized structure of NF-κB p50/p65 heterodimer involved in cytokine production. The findings demonstrate that LMERE restores the hepatic damage by the mRNA expression of antioxidative enzymes while LMERE50, at a glance, seems the most suitable dose.
