Ramipedicella gen. nov. (Ralfsiales, Phaeophyceae): a new crustose brown algal genus including two species, Ramipedicella miniloba sp. nov. and Ramipedicella longicellularis comb. nov.

        Antony Otinga Oteng’o,Boo Yeon Won,Tae Oh Cho 한국조류학회I 2024 ALGAE Vol.39 No.2

The Ralfsiaceae family, part of the Ralfsiales order and consisting of crustose brown algae, includes five genera: Analipus, Endoplura, Fissipedicella, Heteroralfsia, and Ralfsia. In this study, a novel crustose genus named Ramipedicella gen. nov. is introduced within the Ralfsiaceae based on molecular and morphological analyses. Phylogenetic analyses using both concatenated dataset (rbcL + COI-5P genes) and rbcL indicate that the crustose brown algae that we collected from Korea and Russia form a unique grouping within the Ralfsiaceae. This grouping is strongly supported by both bootstrap analysis and Bayesian posterior probabilities. The genetic differences in the rbcL and COI-5P sequences between Ramipedicella and other genera within Ralfsiaceae range from 6.7 to 9.3% for rbcL and from 15.5 to 20.8% for COI-5P. Ramipedicella is characterized by crustose thalli having new crusts growing on top of old ones with a hypothallial basal layer and erect perithallial filaments, long cells with width-to-length ratio of 1 : 1–16, single chloroplast per cell, plurangia with one to several sterile cells, one to several unangia produced from unicellular stalks or from the lateral-basal region to the paraphyses, and unangia arising sequencially in irregularly branched specialized filaments. Ramipedicella, the recently identified genus, comprises two distinct species. Ramipedicella miniloba, the type species, is distinguished by crusts with small lobes, numerous hair tufts, plurangia terminated by 1–4 sterile cells, and large oblong unangia. Ramipedicella longicellularis is identified by generally smooth crusts, absence of phaeophycean hairs, plurangia terminated by 1–2 apical sterile cells, and smaller mostly oblanceolate unangia.

A note on vertex pair sum $k$-zero ring labeling

Antony Sanoj Jerome,K.R. Santhosh Kumar,T.J. Rajesh Kumar 한국전산응용수학회 2024 Journal of applied mathematics & informatics Vol.42 No.2

Let $G=(V,E)$ be a graph with $p$-vertices and $q$-edges and let $R^{\circ}$ be a finite zero ring of order $n$. An injective function $f:V(G)\to \{r_1,r_2,\ldots,r_k\}$, where $r_i\in R^\circ$ is called vertex pair sum $k$-zero ring labeling, if it is possible to label the vertices $x\in V$ with distinct labels from $R^{\circ}$ such that each edge $e=uv$ is labeled with $f(e=uv)=[f(u)+f(v)] \pmod n$ and the edge labels are distinct. A graph admits such labeling is called vertex pair sum $k$-zero ring graph. The minimum value of positive integer $k$ for a graph $G$ which admits a vertex pair sum $k$-zero ring labeling is called the vertex pair sum $k$-zero ring index denoted by $\psi_{pz}(G)$. In this paper, we defined the vertex pair sum $k$-zero ring labeling and applied to some graphs.

      • Hemp fibre woven fabrics / polypropylene based honeycomb sandwich structure for aerospace applications

        Antony, Sheedev,Cherouat, Abel,Montay, Guillaume Techno-Press 2019 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.6 No.2

Recently, natural fibre composites are widely used in aerospace industries due to their good specific mechanical properties, better acoustic properties, light weight, readily availability, biodegradability, recyclability, etc. In this study, the hemp fibre woven fabrics / polypropylene based honeycomb sandwich structure were proposed for aerospace applications. Firstly, the hemp fibre woven fabrics based honeycomb sandwich structures were manufactured and experimental mechanical tests (compressive and flexural) were performed in the laboratory. Numerical simulation was also performed and analysed to validate the proposed methodology. Different complex shaped aircraft part CAD models were created and numerical analysis was carried out in order to have a better understanding about the complex honeycomb sandwich structures.

Nano sheets, needles and grains-like CuO/γ-Al2O3 catalysts’ performance in carbon monoxide oxidation

Antony, Ananth,Young Sun, Mok,Jin-Hyo, Boo,Byung You, Hong Elsevier 2018 Journal of solid state chemistry Vol.265 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This research deals with preparation, characterization and shape dependent performance of copper oxide nanomaterials (CuO NMs) in simple carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation catalysis. Uniform and high purity rice grains-like, needle-like and sheet-like CuO NMs were achieved by adopting different experimental conditions. The shape selective CuO NMs were physically mixed and re-pelletized with γ-Al2O3 thus 1 wt% CuO/γ-Al2O3 catalyst was prepared. The catalysts exhibited good surface area (186–190 m2 g−1), crystallinity, thermal stability and metal dispersion. The performance of various shape CuO/γ-Al2O3 catalysts in CO oxidation catalysis showed that needle-like CuO NMs performed superior against grains-like or sheet like CuO NMs in the temperature region between 200 and 225 °C. The 100% CO2 formation was achieved at 325 and 400 °C in the dry and wet conditions. Also, in every process temperature, differences in the catalytic activity due to catalyst's shape could be noted significantly. It was observed that the catalyst morphology played main role in achieving efficient catalytic process.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Shape-selective preparation of CuO nanostructures. </LI> <LI> Physicochemical characterizations. </LI> <LI> Shape dependent catalytic CO oxidation performance. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>This research deals with the preparation, characterization and shape dependent performance of copper oxide nanomaterials (CuO NMs) in simple carbon monoxide (CO) oxidation catalysis. Numerical investigation on the influence of rope cutter installation on water flow around a ship’s propeller

        Antony John Nyongesa,설영윤,여실중 한국마린엔지니어링학회 2023 한국마린엔지니어링학회지 Vol.47 No.2

Research and development of marine equipment aimed at improving safety at sea has led to a significant reduction in the occurrence of marine accidents. Studies have revealed that installing a rope cutter device would prevent propeller entanglement, which is a major cause of accidents for small ships sailing in coastal regions. This study investigates the effects of rope cutter installation on the pressure distribution, flow streamlines, velocity vectors, cavitation, and thrust force produced by the propeller using the computa-tional fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. ANSYS Fluent, CFD software was used in this study and simulations were conducted under open sea conditions at a maximum continuous rating (MCR) using actual ship propeller dimensions. As a result, rope cutter installation led to a slight reduction of water flow velocity behind the propeller, lower vapor volume fraction by 5.02%, and lesser turbulence in the flow behind the propeller. There were no visible differences in the pressure distribution around the propeller. The average thrust force produced by the propeller was increased by 1.97% after rope cutter installation while the torque required to rotate the propeller with the rope cutter was higher by 0.965%. The findings indicate that the installation of a rope cutter has no adverse impact on the propeller's operation. This research revealed extra positive effects, including a decrease in vapor formation, water circulation behind the propeller, and a slight increase in the propeller's thrust force.

      • Using Web-based Instruction to Complement In Class English Language Learning

Antony Jackson 釜山外國語大學校 語文學硏究所 2007 外大語文論集 Vol.22 No.-

Effectively teaching the English language, in any context, requires familiarizing students with a large variety of separate tasks; reading, writing, speaking and listening. All of these tasks are connected in the sense that they are components of learning the language fully, yet in many ways they are wholly individualskills that require vastly different teaching approaches. In addition, each one of these tasks can be looked at in more detail to reveal the large variety of sub-skills required to learn them; grammars, pronunciation, spelling, etc. In a modem classroom where all instructors are limited to a set number of teaching hours, it is impossible to address all of the necessary tasks for any given lesson. However, by utilizing a web-site, as a complementaIy learning environment, teachers can now greatly increase student's exposure to many tasks that require students to play an active role, but need not directly involve instructors or valuable classroom time. Thus, technology can be used to enhance the delivery of educational experiences that promoteactive learning. This paper will share some ideas for infusing active learning and collaborative learning experiences into online web-pages in order to help students accomplish goals, converse openly, organize their time, and set an appropriate pace for learning. These extracurricular activities also help students to increase their sense of responsibility for, and their confidence in, their own language learning.

Study on natural gas stratification enhancement in low-pressure natural gas-diesel dual-fuel marine two-stroke engine using CFD approach

        Antony John Nyongesa,김정국,이원주 한국마린엔지니어링학회 2023 한국마린엔지니어링학회지 Vol.47 No.6

Natural gas (NG) is a potential alternative fuel for a carbon-free transition. Currently, NG combustion in marine two-stroke engines is achieved using two dual fuel concepts namely, the high-pressure injection (HPDF) and low-pressure injection (LPDF). The LPDF engine concept can meet the Tier III emission regulations without any after-treatment devices. However, under low load condi-tions, it exhibits poor combustion characteristics and higher CO and HC emissions. The quality of the in-cylinder NG/air mixture is crucial for the premixed combustion nature of the LPDF concept. This study numerically evaluates the influence of adjustable-sized scavenge ports on the NG stratification in a large-bore marine two-stroke NG/diesel, dual-fuel engine. Originally, the engine port height was 211mm; the size was reduced to various port heights to analyze its influence on the NG/air stratification. The results showed a significant improvement in the in-cylinder dynamic, mixing, and turbulence properties. The swirl ratio, turbulence kinetic energy, and vorticity magnitudes were increased to a maximum of 16.56, 37.027, and 17.04%, respectively. However, owing to the reduced scav-enge port size, the trapped air mass in the cylinder was reduced slightly by 2.05%. This study provides a reasonable approach to improve the cylinder mixture formation to improve combustion efficiency in marine low-pressure gas dual-fuel engines.
