<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Unsymmetrical trisulfonated zinc phthalocyanine with single carboxylic acid (trisulfo-Pc-COOH) was newly prepared via the hydrolysis of cyanotrisulfo-Pc which was obtained from the palladium catalyzed cyanation of iodotrisulfo-Pc. The product exhibited good water solubility along with excellent absorption and emission characteristics in an aqueous condition, proving its feasibility for use in bio-imaging applications.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

This study includes the synthesis and application of unsymmetrical zinc phthalocyanines (ZnPcs) 1 and 2 with three tertiary-butylated (tBu) and hexyl-tridecafluoro (C6F13) groups that are further connected with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) through an amide bonding to yield Pc-functionalized CNTs 3 and 4, respectively. The properties of the resulting Pc-CNT complexes are thoroughly investigated using various analytical techniques, revealing that 3 and 4 enhanced the dispersion and adhesion properties of the CNTs to poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix, and thereby improved the electrical and dielectric properties. Particularly, the presence of long and fluorinated substituents in 4 allowed for better interfacial compatibility compared to alkylated Pc-CNT 3, leading to more stable dielectric behaviors. Our work has demonstrated that perfluorinated and alkylated Pc-CNT complex could be facile and effective approach toward high-performance polymer-based dielectrics.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Polyisobutylene-substituted metallophthalocyanines (PIB-MPcs) were prepared by direct tetramerization of PIB-phthalonitrile in the presence of lithium, followed by demetallation, and subsequent insertion of Co(II) and Fe(II) into the central cavity of the phthalocyanines (Pcs). Due to the nonpolar nature of the PIB substituents and the flat molecular structure of the Pc macrocycles, the PIB-MPcs exhibited high affinity and strong adhesion to single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), which consequently enabled and stabilized the dispersion of the SWCNTs in most common solvents. The prepared PIB-MPc/SWCNT complexes were characterized by various characterization methods. Furthermore, the electrocatalytic performances of the PIB-MPc/SWCNT complexes for an oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) were evaluated by electrochemical investigations. In particular, the PIB-FePc/SWCNT complexes exhibited superior electrocatalytic properties of ORR activity, with electron transfer numbers of up to 3.92 over all applied voltages, promoting four electron pathways. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We report the synthesis of a new colorimetric probe <B>R1</B>, in which the perylene tetracarboxylicdiimide fluorophore is connected with an adamantly amine unit through the NH binding site. <B>R1</B> was tested with a variety of metal ions and exhibited a significant colorimetric transition in the presence of Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> and Al<SUP>3+</SUP> ions. No significant changes were observed with other metal ions. Absorption measurements indicated that trivalent metal ions Fe<SUP>3+</SUP>/Al<SUP>3+</SUP> bind with <B>R1</B> and generate a stable complex. The presence of Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> and Al<SUP>3+</SUP> ions induces new absorption bands with shoulder peaks at 525nm and 568nm. The fluorescence intensity of <B>R1</B> at 579nm was significantly increased by the addition of Fe<SUP>3+</SUP>or Al<SUP>3+</SUP> ions. Furthermore, <B>R1</B> was found to be sensitive towards these metal ions at micromolar concentrations. The stoichiometry of <B>R1</B>:Fe<SUP>3+</SUP>/Al<SUP>3+</SUP> complexes were confirmed by ESI–MS analysis, and binding constants were calculated using Benesi–Hildebrand plots. Phthalocyanine (Pc) exhibits excellent thermal, chemical, and physical stability, as well as outstanding absorption and emission properties, which are useful for its application in the fields of color filters, chemosensors, and photosensitizers. However, unsubstituted Pc is insoluble in common organic solvents due to its inherent intermolecular aggregation behavior, and thus needs to be finely dispersed in the presence of dispersants before use. In this article, we present a new Pc derivative, prepared by attaching long aliphatic groups at peripheral positions of Pc, which shows high solubility in most nonpolar solvents, leading to good optical properties. For its synthesis, dodecanyl-zinc Pc (dodecanyl-Zn-Pc) was prepared via direct tetramerization, starting with 4-dodecanyl phthalonitrile as the intermediate. Various characterization techniques were employed to estimate the structural and optical features of dodecanyl-Zn-Pc, including $^1H$ nuclear magnetic resonance, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization, and ultraviolet-visual spectrophotometry and fluorimetry. In addition, the morphology of dodecanyl-Zn-Pc film was examined by polarized optical microscopy.
