RESEARCH : Open Access ; Effects of extrusion of rice bran on performance and phosphorous bioavailability in broiler chickens

( Ali Akbar Zare Sheibani ),( Masoud Arab ),( Mohammad Javad Zamiri ),( Mohammad Reza Rezvani ),( Mohammad Dadpasand ),( Farhad Ahmadi ) 한국동물자원과학회(구 한국축산학회) 2015 한국축산학회지 Vol.57 No.26

Background: Rice bran is a by-product of the rice-milling process, which remains largely underutilized; however, efficient processing treatments may improve its feeding value for chickens. This is of great economic and environmental importance, as this can lower the production costs, and offer an opportunity for valorization of a low-quality agricultural by-product, to a high-value feed source. Methods: This experiment was conducted to study the effect of extruded rice bran on performance and phosphorous (P) bioavailability in broiler chickens. In a completely randomized design, 200 seven-day-old broilers (Cobb 500) were allotted to five treatments with five replicates per treatment and 8 chicks per replicate, and fed with their respective diet during the starter (8 to 21 days) and grower (22 to 42 days) periods. Diets were a basal corn-soybean based diet (T1), or diets containing 20 % rice bran (T2), 30 % rice bran (T3), 20 % extruded rice bran (T4), or 30 % extruded rice bran (T5). Results: Birds feeding on T4 and T5 diets had a higher body weight gain and lower feed-to-gain ratio compared to those feeding on T2 and T3 diets (p < 0.05). Birds receiving diets containing extruded rice bran had higher total P availability and tibia ash content, as compared with those receiving diets containing un-extruded rice bran (p < 0.05). Relative weight of the pancreas was higher in birds receiving T2 and T3 diets. Conclusions: The results confirmed the beneficial effect of extrusion treatment of rice bran on performance and P availability in broilers. Up to 30 % extruded rice bran may be included in the broiler diet without apparent adverse effects on the performance.

Effect of Inverted-V Bracing on Retrofitting Against Progressive Collapse of Steel Moment Resisting Frames

Farshad Hashemi Rezvani,Mohammad Ali Mohammad Taghizadeh,Hamid Reza Ronagh 한국강구조학회 2017 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.17 No.3

The effect of inverted-V bracing on enhancing progressive collapse resistance of steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRF) were investigated in this study. A series of nonlinear static and dynamic analyses were performed to determine the resistance of four generic MRFs retrofitted by ten inverted-V bracing element. These structures were subjected to an exterior column loss and had a different number of stories and span lengths in order to study the effect of these variations on the structural response. Both force-controlled and deformation-controlled actions were implemented to determine if the column loss would lead to a failure progression. Results showed that structural configuration affects the structural resistance against failure progression and hence the appropriate brace element to retrofit it. Also, it was shown that for the studied 4-story frames, by increasing the span length by 20%, the structural resistance decreases by 42% on average. Finally, it was observed that by decreasing the span length, the Dynamic Increase Factor (DIF) suggested by the UFC, will lead to underestimating the required cross-sectional area of the brace for strengthening the unbraced structures.

Mechanical Properties of Multiscale Graphene Oxide/Basalt Fiber/Epoxy Composites

        Nahid Jamali,Hamed Khosravi,Ali Reza Rezvani,Esmaeil Tohidlou 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.1

This work was carried out to study the effects of silane functionalization of graphene oxide (GO) nanoplatelets and their loadings on the mechanical properties of basalt fiber (BF)/epoxy composites. At first, the GO nanoplatelets were organically modified by grafting of N-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)ethylenediamine (3-TMSPED) compound. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA) results demonstrated that silane compound can be covalently grafted to the surface of GO. The multiscale silanized graphene oxide (SGO)/BF/epoxy composites with various weight percentages of SGO in the matrix (0-0.5 wt.% in the step of 0.1) were fabricated. According to the experimental data, the 0.4 wt.% SGO-filled composite showed the maximum improvement by 18 %, 59 %, and 61 % in the tensile, flexural and compressive strengths of BF/epoxy composite, while the maximum improvement by 46 %, 54 %, and 66 % in the tensile, flexural and compressive moduli, respectively was observed for the 0.5 wt.% SGO-filled composite. Additionally, the SGO was more effective in mechanical property enhancement of fibrous composites in comparison with GO, due to its silane-functionalization. From the fracture surface examination of the specimens, it was found that the incorporation of GO or SGO improved the BF-epoxy interfacial bonding. A theoretical model based on Euler-Bernoulli beam-based method was utilized to predict the compressive properties of composites, which was in an excellent agreement with the experimental data.

Adsorption of semisoft pollutants onto Bi2S3/Ag2S-AC under the influence of ultrasonic waves as external filed

Kheibar Dashtiana,Sima Porhemat,Ali Reza Rezvani,Mehrorang Ghaedi,Mohammad Mehdi Sabzehmeidani 한국공업화학회 2018 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.60 No.-

The Bi2S3–Ag2S nanocomposite loaded activated carbon (Bi2S3–Ag2S-AC) as semisoft adsorbent was prepared, characterized by FE-SEM, XRD, EDX and DRS and subsequently was used for simultaneous semisoft adsorption of ponceau-4R (P-4R) and auramine-O (AO) dyes from aqueous solution under ultrasonic waves. The influence of operational parameters such as Bi2S3–Ag2S-AC mass, AO concentration, P-4R concentration, pH and sonication time on ultrasound-assisted semisoft adsorption efficiency was studied by central composite design (CCD). Maximum ultrasound-assisted semisoft adsorption efficiencies of 99.51% and 100% were obtained at optimum conditions set as at: 10.59 mg L−1 AO and 17.59 mg L−1 P-4R, pH 4, 0.015 g of Bi2S3/Ag2S-AC and 3.82 min sonication time. In ANOVA the F-value of 269.51 and 247.84 are evidence for significance of the selected model and the lack-of-fit of P-value (0.7208 and 0.7204) is non-significant, confirming the model are statistically logic, for AO and P-4R, respectively. Results revealed that high amount of pollutants were removed from aquaes solution in presens of ultrasonic waves as external filed in short time. Isotherm studied results showed that the Freundlich and Langmuir model were appropriate to describe the ultrasound assisted semisoft adsorption behaviour of AO and P-4R dyes, respectively. Bi2S3/Ag2S-AC revealed the high ultrasound assisted semisoft adsorption capacity of 202.43 and 191.57 mg g−1, for AO and P4R dyes, respectively. The results showed that pseudo-second-order model is the best model for describe kinetic behavior of the ultrasound assisted semisoft dyes adsorption onto Bi2S3–Ag2S-AC as efficient semisoft adsorbent.

      • A 10-year Study of Esophageal Cancer in Guilan Province, Iran: The Guilan Cancer Registry Study (GCRS)

        Mansour-Ghanaei, Fariborz,Heidarzadeh, Abtin,Naghipour, Mohammad Reza,Joukar, Farahnaz,Valeshabad, Ali Kord,Fallah, Mohammad-Sadegh,Rezvani, Seyed Mahmoud,Sedigh-Rahimabadi, Massih,Rokhshad, Hasan,Dad Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.12

Background: Northern Iran counts as one of the highest prevalence regions for esophageal cancer (EC) worldwide. This study was designed to assess the epidemiologic aspects of EC in north central and northwest Iran over a 10 year period. Materials and Methods: The Guilan cancer registry study (GCRS) is a population-based cancer registry study featuring retrospective (1996-2003) and prospective (2004-2005) phases. A detailed questionnaire based on WHO standards for cancer registratration was applied to gather the required information. Two trained physicians coded information using ICD-O-3 in close coordination with an expert pathologist. Results: A total of 19,936 cases of malignancy (mean age $55.4{\pm}18.0$ years, range: 1-98 years) were registered, including 1,147 cases (670 males, 447 female; mean age: $64.0{\pm}11.5$ years) of EC. In 1996 the male/female ratio among patients with EC was 1.25 which increased to 1.53 in 2005. The lower third of the esophagus still remained the most common site of tumors. The average age-standardized rate (ASR) was 6.9 and 4.1 per $10^5$ men and women, respectively. In 1996, the ASRs were 7.2 and 5.2 per $10^5$ men and women which decreased to 6.9 and 4.1 per $10^5$ in 2004-2005. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) was the most prevalent histological subtype of EC accounting over 80% of cases. Conclusions: However the prevalence of adenocarcinoma (ADC) showed an increase to 18.4%. Guilan province may be considered a relatively low incidence region for EC.

Macro- and Micro-nutrient Intake Adequacy in Gastric Bypass Patients after 24 Months: a Cross-sectional Study

        Ostad Andisheh Norouzian,Barghchi Hanieh,Jangjoo Ali,Ranjbar Golnaz,Rezvani Reza,Bahrami Leila Sadat,Goshayeshi Ladan,Khadem-Rezaiyan Majid,Nematy Mohsen 한국임상영양학회 2021 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.10 No.4

Decreased food intake is an effective mechanism for gastric bypass surgery (GBS) for successful weight loss. This cross-sectional study aimed to assess dietary intake, micro-and macro-nutrients in the patients undergoing GBS and determine the possible associations with weight changes. We assessed anthropometric indices and food intake at 24 month-post gastric bypass surgery. Dietary data was evaluated using three-day food records. After the 24 months of surgery, among 35 patients (mean age: 43.5 ± 11.2 years; 82.85% females), with the mean body mass index (BMI) of 30.5 ± 4.5 kg/m2, 17 cases were < 50% of their excess weight. The average daily calorie intake was 1,733 ± 630 kcal, with 14.88% of calories from protein. Consumption amounts of protein (0.82 ± 0.27 g/kg of the current weight), as well as fiber, and some micro-nutrients (vitamin B9, E, K, B5, and D3) were lower than recommended amounts. Patients were classified into three groups based on their success in weight loss after surgery. Calorie intake was not significantly different between groups, but successful groups consumed considerably more protein and less carbohydrate than the unsuccessful group (p < 0.05). Based on our findings, the patients undergoing GBS had inadequate macro- and micro-nutrient intake after 24 months. However, protein intake can affect patients' success in achieving better weight loss. Long-term cohort and clinical studies need to be conducted to comprehend this process further.
