      • Empowering Biosphere A Pedagogy of Landscape Political Philosophy

        The libertarian drift of the late 20th century States Capitalism provoked worldwide the distrust of civil societies towards governmental institutions having renounced the management of the common good. Faced with the neo-liberalisation management in practice, current Built Environment experts are developing complex and hybrid apparatus of landscape analysis. The emergence of the Design Community phenomenon that has embraced a variegated set of professions tells of a revitalisation of indigenous practices and customs that need an encouragement. However, it also reveals a fault in the generalised statehood. Distancing itself from a modelling of the territory inherited from the 19th century symbolising the wanderings of environmental imperialism that is still poorly defined, this new ecological humanities movement remains obscure to its own communities of practice. There needs to be a pedagogy of the landscape political philosophy to best share the new knowledge of the living.

      • Amino Acid Restriction Triggers Angiogenesis via GCN2/ATF4 Regulation of VEGF and H<sub>2</sub>S Production

        <P><B>Summary</B></P> <P>Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels by endothelial cells (ECs), is an adaptive response to oxygen/nutrient deprivation orchestrated by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) upon ischemia or exercise. Hypoxia is the best-understood trigger of VEGF expression via the transcription factor HIF1α. Nutrient deprivation is inseparable from hypoxia during ischemia, yet its role in angiogenesis is poorly characterized. Here, we identified sulfur amino acid restriction as a proangiogenic trigger, promoting increased VEGF expression, migration and sprouting in ECs <I>in vitro</I>, and increased capillary density in mouse skeletal muscle <I>in vivo</I> via the GCN2/ATF4 amino acid starvation response pathway independent of hypoxia or HIF1α. We also identified a requirement for cystathionine-γ-lyase in VEGF-dependent angiogenesis via increased hydrogen sulfide (H<SUB>2</SUB>S) production.         Esophageal Motor Disorders Are a Strong and Independant Associated Factor of Barrett’s Esophagus

        Background/Aims Esophageal motor disorder (EMD) has been shown to be associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, the association of EMD with a Barrett’s esophagus (BE) is controversial. Our objective was to evaluate whether the presence of EMD was an independent factor associated with BE. Methods A retrospective case-control study was conducted in GERD patients who all had oeso-gastroduodenal endoscopy and high-resolution esophageal manometry. The clinical data collected was known or potential risk factors for BE: male gender, smoking and alcohol consumption, age, body mass index, presence of hiatal hernia, frequency, and age of GERD. EMD were classified according to the Chicago classification into: ineffective motor syndrome, fragmented peristalsis and absence of peristalsis, lower esophageal sphincter hypotonia. Results Two hundred and one patients (101 in the GERD + BE group and 100 in the GERD without BE) were included. In univariate analysis, male gender, alcohol consumption, presence of hiatal hernia, and EMD appeared to be associated with the presence of BE. In a multivariate analysis, 3 independent factors were identified: the presence of EMD (odds ratio [OR], 3.99; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.71–9.28; P = 0.001), the presence of hiatal hernia (OR, 5.60; 95% CI, 2.45–12.76; P < 0.001), Helicobacter pylori infection (OR, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.01–0.84; P = 0.035). Conclusions The presence of EMD (particularly ineffective motor syndrome and lower esophageal sphincter hypotonia) is a strong independent associated factor of BE. Searching systematically for an EMD in patients suffering from GERD could be a new strategy to organize the endoscopic follow-up.

        An analysis of into-Arabic translations of English modals in Shakespeare's Macbeth : The perils of translating English modals by zero equivalents

        본 연구는 영어 법조동사의 아랍어 번역 시 제로 등가(생략) 전략을 사용했을 때 발생하는 의미적 차이를 보여주는 것을 그 목적으로 한다. 사례연구로 맥베스에 사용된 영어 법조동사를 코퍼스로 구축한 후 이를 분석한다. 맥베스에 쓰인 166개의 법조동사 중 39개 (23.5%)는 아랍어 번역본에서 삭제되었다. 대부분의 경우 가능성의 의미가 확신의 의미를 가지게 되는 등 영어 조동사의 의미를 훼손되었으며 이러한 생략 전략은 종종 영어 조동사에서 나타내고자 하는 중요한 뉘앙스를 훼손시키는 결과를 초래한다. 본 연구는 영어의 엄격한 문법 시스템과는 달리 아랍어는 조동사 표현이 다양해 이를 사용하여 영어 법조동사가 지니고 있는 미묘한 의미의 차이를 효과적으로 표현할 수 있다는 결론을 내린다. 그러므로 번역사는 영어에서 아랍어로 번역할 때 법조동사 번역에 각별히 유의해야 하며,생략 전략은 원본의 의미를 적확히 반영하지 못하는 경우가 많다는 인식을 가져야겠다.

        Effectiveness of anchorage with temporary anchorage devices during anterior maxillary tooth retraction: A randomized clinical trial

        Objective: This study evaluated the efficiency of anchorage provided by temporary anchorage devices (TADs) in maxillary bicuspid extraction cases during retraction of the anterior teeth using a fixed appliance. Methods: Patients aged 12 to 50 years with malocclusion for which bilateral first or second maxillary bicuspid extractions were indicated were included in the study and randomly allocated to the TAD or control groups. Retraction of the anterior teeth was achieved using skeletal anchorage in the TAD group and conventional dental anchorage in the control group. A computed tomography (CT) scan was performed after alignment of teeth, and a second CT scan was performed at the end of extraction space closure in both groups. A three-dimensional superimposition was performed to visualize and quantify the maxillary first molar movement during the retraction phase, which was the primary outcome, and the stability of TAD movement, which served as the secondary outcome. Results: Thirty-four patients (17 in each group) underwent the final analysis. The two groups showed a significant difference in the movement of the first maxillary molars, with less significant anchorage loss in the TAD group than that in the control group. In addition, TAD movement showed only a slight mesial movement on the labial side. On the palatal side, the mesial TAD movement was greater. Conclusions: In comparison with conventional dental anchorage, TADs can be considered an efficient source of anchorage during retraction of maxillary anterior teeth. TADs remain stable when correctly placed in the bone during the anterior tooth retraction phase.

        Cybercrime as an Essential Element in Transnational Counterfeiting Schemes

        Transnational counterfeiting conspiracy cases have appeared across the globe, often linking the developing and the developed world in illicit ways. In many of these cases, a forged copy of name-brand merchandise is produced cheaply, and then transported and shipped to a destination market where it is sold to consumers at a high mark-up. This kind of transnational chain conspiracy characterizes these cases, causing harms of several types: fraud victimization (the marketing and sale of fake products sold under false pretenses), the potential danger posed to victims from purchasing poorly made merchandise, and the negative impact on the legal economy (loss of jobs in legitimate manufacturing companies, and on the development of new product ideas which are stolen and used to make imitations). A sometimes overlooked element of these counterfeiting conspiracies is the essential role that cybercrime plays in their operation. Three transnational conspiracies that resulted in criminal convictions are summarized here to illustrate the centrality of cybercrime in their commission. The three conspiracies involve different types of products: electronics, pills, and perfume.

        Leaching kinetics of ulexite in sodium hydrogen sulphate solutions

        The aim of this study was to investigate the dissolution kinetics of ulexite in sodium hydrogen sulphate solutions in a mechanical agitation system and to declare an alternative reactant to produce boric acid. Reaction temperature, concentration of sodium hydrogen sulphate solutions, stirring speed, solid/liquid ratio and ulexite particle size were selected as parameters of the dissolution rate of ulexite. The experimental results were successfully correlated by linear regression using Statistica program. Dissolution curves were evaluated in order to test shrinking core models for solid-fluid systems. It was observed that increase in the reaction temperature and decrease in the solid/liquid ratio cause an increase in the dissolution rate of ulexite. The dissolution extent is highly increased with increase in the stirring speed rate between 100 and 700 rpm experimental conditions. The activation energy was found to be 36.4 kJ/mol. The leaching of ulexite was controlled by diffusion through the ash or product layer. The rate expression associated with the dissolution rate of ulexite depending on the parameters chosen may be summarized as: 1–3(1 X)2/3 + 2(1 X) = 6.17 × C0.97 × W1.17 × D 1.72 × (S/L) 0.66 × e( 36.4/RT) t.
