      • Building Supply Chain Resilience and Market Performance through Organizational Culture: An Empirical Study Utilizing the Stimulus-Organism-Response Model

        Aaron Rae Stephens(Aaron Rae Stephens),Min-Hyo Kang(Min-Hyo Kang),Charles Arthur Robb(Charles Arthur Robb) 동아시아무역학회 2022 Journal of East Asian Trade(JEAT) Vol.4 No.1

Purpose – Supply chain disruptions have dominated business planning and performance since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to mar organizations through 2022. This research carefully examines the role of organizational culture in developing both supply chain resilience and market performance amid supply chain disruptions. Design/Methodology/Approach – An empirical study of over 200 South Korean firms were tested. The model is tested using PLS-SEM; furthermore, mediation effects enrich the quality of the findings. This research is framed utilizing the stimulus-organism-response model; thus, emphasizing the highly dynamic business environment that has ensued. Findings – The research confirms that supply chain disruption orientation, a strategic orientation and a proxy for a well-prepared organizational culture, leads to both supply chain resilience and market performance. Results also confirm that resilience reinforces market performance throughout the supply chain. Study contributions suggest that firms should consider themselves as organisms within a highly dynamic environment and develop a highly prepared organizational culture in order to bolster supply chain resilience and market performance. Research Implications – Scholars can further employ the stimulus-organism-response model in firm-level research and further study the link between organizational culture and supply chain performance amid COVID-19. Finally, the results of this research provide guidelines for organizations when they decide on operational procedures during the pandemic, as they aim to produce greater returns for their ventures.

A Study on the Effects of Strategic Orientations on Dynamic Capabilities and International Performance: Evidence from Korean Firms1

        Aaron Stephens,Seog Soo Kim 한국국제경영관리학회 2015 국제경영리뷰 Vol.19 No.4

This study combines three strategic orientations: market orientation, learning orientation, and entrepreneurial orientation to show how these orientations affect exploration and exploitation to benefit international performance of Korean firms. This model identifies a process of information creation, movement and exploitation by firms. The dynamic capabilities framework and ambidexterity theory are employed to explain how these orientations affect a firm’s absorption capability, adaptation capability, and innovation capability to provide better international performance. Firms that embrace the three aforementioned orientations can improve knowledge exploration and exploitation to benefit international performance. This research provides implications for Korean managers operating internationally, and a model that confirms the role of strategic orientations, dynamic capabilities, and their effects on international performance.

The laryngopharyngeal nerve: a comprehensive review

        Stephen Shapiro,Andrew L. Parker,Juan J. Cardona,Arada Chaiyamoon,Francisco Reina,Ana Carrera,Joe Iwanaga,Aaron S. Dumont,R. Shane Tubbs 대한해부학회 2023 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.56 No.3

The laryngopharyngeal nerve has received much less attention that the other contributions to the pharyngealplexus i.e., glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves. Often, in descriptions and depictions, the nerve is simply labeled as thesympathetic contribution to the pharyngeal plexus. As there is such scant information available regarding this nerve, the present review was performed. Very little is found in the extant medical literature regarding the laryngopharyngeal nerve. However, based on available data, the nerve is a consistent contributory to the pharyngeal plexus and serves other adjacentareas e.g., carotid body. Therefore, a better understanding of this structure’s anatomy is important for those who operate inthis area. Further studies are necessary to better elucidate the true function of the laryngopharyngeal nerve.

Rare anastomosis between the ascending pharyngeal and vertebral arteries via the hypoglossal canal: A cadaveric case report

        Stephen J. Bordes,Sina Zarrintan,Joe Iwanaga,Marios Loukas,Aaron S. Dumont,R. Shane Tubbs 대한해부학회 2021 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.54 No.3

We present a rare case of external carotid artery-vertebral artery anastomosis via the ascending pharyngeal artery, diagnosed upon cadaveric dissection. The ascending pharyngeal artery gave rise to a branch to the hypoglossal canal, which is a variation of a true persistent fetal hypoglossal artery. Knowledge of persistent carotid-vertebrobasilar anastomoses is important as these fetal vessels can contribute significantly to the posterior cerebral circulation. Only 10 cases of external carotid artery-vertebrobasilar artery anastomoses have been reported to our knowledge, and our case presents the first cadaveric dissection of this rare variation.

OPEN ACCESS : Effect of acute interval sprinting exercise on postprandial lipemia of sedentary young men

( Aaron Chu ),( Yati N Boutcher ),( Stephen H Boutcher ) 한국운동영양학회 2016 Physical Activity and Nutrition (Phys Act Nutr) Vol.20 No.1

[Purpose] Postprandial lipemia (PPL) contributes to the development of atherosclerosis. In females, repeated 8-second bouts of interval sprinting exercise reduced PPL, however, the effect of 8-second bouts of interval sprinting on PPL of overweight males is undetermined. Thus, the effect of 8-seconds of interval sprinting for 20 min, the night before ingestion of a high-fat meal (HFM), on plasma triacylglycerol (TG) levels was examined. [Methods] Ten overweight males acted as participants (BMI = 26±3.0 kg/㎡, age 22±2.5 years). A crossover design was employed with interval sprinting and a no exercise condition separated by 7days. Participants consumed a milkshake (high-fat meal; HFM = 4170 kJ/993 Kcal) the morning after an overnight fast, followed by 4 hourly blood samples. Participants performed one bout of interval sprinting (8 seconds sprinting at 110-115 rpm, 12 seconds active recovery at ~ 60 rpm for 20 minutes) the evening before the consumption of the HFM. [Results] Postprandial TG was 22.5% lower in the interval sprinting compared to the no exercise condition when comparing the change in total area under the curve (ΔAUCT): ISE(7.15±1.90 mmolL(-1)h(-1)) versus no exercise (9.22±3.44 mmolL(-1)h(-1)), p=.014. The correlation between fasting TG levels in the no exercise condition and total reduction in AUCT between the conditions was significant (r=.87, p=.001). [Conclusion] One 20-min bout of interval sprinting, the night before consumption of a HFM, significantly attenuated the PPL response of sedentary males.

Korean Brand Globalization : How it works for the Vietnamese market

        Nguyen-Hanh Tang,Aaron Rae Stephens,Young-Chan Lee(이영찬) 한국아시아학회 2019 아시아연구 Vol.22 No.4

This study seeks to elucidate the globalization of Korea’s nation branding to Vietnamese consumers and the power of Korean products in Vietnam through a theoretical lens. Particularly, it proposes a conceptual model that incorporates three stages of belief/perception, evaluation/attitude, and behavioral intention to develops a holistic framework. By examining a deeper insight of the recent Korea-Vietnam economic cooperation, trade, and political history, this research uniquely develop through a literature review a holistic measure of the country of origin perceptions (ethnocentrism, animosity, and world-mindedness – a new adopted independent variable) and a delineated view of those effects on consumer attitude (country image and product judgment). To serve the purpose, we conducted an empirical research by surveying on Vietnamese consumer and by using PLS-SEM (partial least square-structural equation model). The results of this research indicate that Vietnamese consumers have a complex set of concerns regarding Korean products. Of the three independent variables (i.e., consumer ethnocentrism, animosity, and world-mindedness), world-mindedness is the most salient with three positive pathways, i.e., in the relationships with general country image, product judgment, and purchase intention. Moreover, the critical role of product judgment is also found through its full mediation effect on the relationship between general country image and purchase intention, and its partial mediation effect on the relationship between world-mindedness and purchase intention. Many academic and practical implications, as well as managerial practices for Korean businesses in Vietnam, are suggested in this paper. The implications can also be extended into other Asian markets. Despite a large number of studies focusing on the impacts of K-wave on young Vietnamese, this study and its findings are valuable for understanding how Vietnamese consumers consider the Korean nation brand and Korean products in consideration of a comprehensive review of historical events, bilateral cooperation and K-wave with relevance to Vietnamese consumer attitudes and decision-making.
