In most developing countries, Dientamoeba fragilis infection is an obscure protozoan infection. We aimed to determine a frequency and clinical importance of D. fragilis infection in Taif, Saudi Arabia. A 1-year case control study included patients with gastrointestinal (cases, n=114) or non-gastrointestinal symptoms (controls, n=90). The fecal samples were examined with the classical parasitological methods for intestinal protozoa, and by real time PCR for D. fragilis. The infection by D. fragilis was detected in 5.8% by PCR and in 4.4% patients by microscopy. The infection was identified more in control group (n=9) than in cases (n=3); a sole infection in 11 patients and mixed with Giardia in 1 patient. The other enteric parasites detected were Blastocystis sp. (8.3%), Giardia sp. (5.3%), Cryptosporidium sp. (2.9%), Entamoeba histolytica (1.4%), Entamoeba coli (0.9%) and Hymenolepis nana (0.4%). Our results tend to reinforce the need to increase awareness of D. fragilis infection in Saudi Arabia.
Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Novel Imidazolone Derivatives as Potential COX-2 Inhibitors

Three novel series of 2-(substituted phenyl)-4-(substituted arylidene)-imidazolone-5-(4H)-ones were derived from the corresponding oxazolones by condensation with different arylamines. Eleven of the synthesized compounds were selected and evaluated for their effect on carrageenan-induced rat paw edema. Compound 4b had the same efficacy as the reference standard (indomethacin), and compounds 3b, 3c, 4a, 4d and 9a showed good to excellent activities, with other compounds only weakly active. The potent compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against COX-2-catalyzed $PGE_2$ production, with 4a, 4b and 3c showing strong inhibitory activity.

2, 3-diphenyl-4-cyano-pyrrole-5-thione (4) was either by the reaction of benzoin (1) and cyanothioacetamide (3) followed by cyclization using AcOH/sodium acetate or by refluxing a mixture of benzoin (1) and cyanothioacethamide in pyridine to afford directly 4. Several new pyrrole and pyrazole derivatives were synthesised using 4 as synthon. The structure of the newly synthesised derivatives were based on celemental and spectral data studies. Methylation of the SH group in 4 afforded 5. Reaction of 4 with ethyl bromo acetate afforded (6). Treatment of (5) and (6) with hydrazine hydrate afforded the same pyrazole derivative (10) through the intermediate (9). Treatment of 6 with aniline and phenylhydrazine afforded the pyrrole derivatives 8a, b respectively. Treatment of 6 while dill HCI gave 2, 3-diphenyl-4-cyano-pyrrole-5-one (7). Treatment of 6 with $NH_3$/EtOH afforded the amidic derivatives (11) with treatment of 6 $NH_3$/ heat then acidification it gave the carboxylic derivatives (12).

Energy consumption of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems is responsible for about 25 to 30% of the energy demand especially in hot seasons. This equipment is mostly electricity dependent and their use in principle affects negatively the environment. Enhancing the energy efficiency of the existing equipment is important as one of the measures to reduce environment impacts. This paper reports the results of an experimental study to evaluate the impacts of the use electronic expansion valve and variable velocity compressor on the performance of vapor compression refrigeration system. The experimental rig is composed of two independent circuits one for the vapor compression system and the other is the secondary fluid system. The vapor compression system is composed of a forced air condenser unit, evaporator, hermetic compressor and expansion elements, while the secondary system has a pump for circulating the secondary fluid, and an air conditioning heat exchanger. The manufacturer's data was used to determine the optimal points of operation of the system and consequently tests were done to evaluate the influence of variation of the compressor velocity and the opening of the expansion device on the performance of the refrigeration system. A fuzzy logic model was developed to control the rotational velocity of the compressor and the thermal load. Fuzzy control model was made in LabVIEW software with the objective of improving the system performance, stability and energy saving. The results showed that the use of fuzzy logic as a form of control strategy resulted in a better energy efficiency.

Due to restriction of vehicle emissions and high demand for fossil fuels nowadays, car manufacturers around the world are looking into alternative ways in introducing new car model that would vastly captured the market. Thus, Electric Vehicle (EV) has been further developed to take the advantage of the current global issues on price of fossil fuels and impact on the environment. Since car battery plays the crucial role on the overall performance of EV, many researchers have been working on improving the component. This paper focused on the reliability of EV battery which involves recognizing failure types, testing method and life prediction method. By focusing on these elements, the reliability feature being identified and as a result the batteries life will be prolonged.

Cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A (CIP2A) has been identified as one of the most commonly altered proteins in human cancers. It blocks the tumor-suppressive action of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) complex and enhances malignancy. Thirty-five patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity underwent surgical resection of the tumor. CIP2A was assessed by quantitative real-time PCR in the resected tumor tissues and in their adjacent normal tissues. CIP2A was found to be overexpressed in all oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) specimens in comparison to their surrounding normal tissue. CIP2A overexpression was statistically correlated with poor prognostic feature of the tumor. Thus, a high expression level of CIP2A was associated with shorter survival. In conclusion, CIP2A is upregulated in OSCC, and its overexpression is correlated with aggressiveness of the tumor and poor outcome and survival. It may serve as a prognostic marker of OSCC. Purification of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is a very actively discussed topic in contemporary CNT literature. To a large extent, impurities embedded in CNTs influence the physical and chemical characteristics of the CNTs. Different purification methods yield different CNT characteristics and may be suitable for the production of different types of CNTs. Developments in the purification methods of CNTs are reviewed and the production methods are briefly discussed and summarized. This is followed by a detailed description of the three major purification methods, viz. chemical, physical and multi-step purification.
