        Macroscopic Properties of the Nematic Phase of Boomerang-Shaped ``C7": Evidence of Biaxiality

        We report the first evidence of macroscopic biaxiality of the nematic phase of the boomerang-shaped mesogen ODBP-Ph-C7 (C7). Studying the macroscopic alignment and the dielectric and the optical properties of the nematic phase of C7, we found effects that could be attributed only to the existence of three different dielectric constants and three different directors, which lay in the very definition of biaxiality. In contrast to the case of a uniaxial nematic liquid crystal, alignment of C7 cannot be labeled as homeotropic or planar: if one director is homeotropic then the other two are planar. We show that cells with different homeotropic directors and, consequently, different pairs of planar directors, to a certain extent are, equivalent to planar cells with different dielectric anisotropies. This difference, which is an unambiguous sign of biaxiality, is detected experimentally and turns out to be extremely sharp. The dielectric and the optical properties of C7 are found to undergo dramatic changes within the temperature range of the nematic phase. These data are summarized in a tentative phase diagram of C7, which shows that while the medium is elastically biaxial, its dielectric and optical properties can be uniaxial or even isotropic.

        For the stress analysis in bi-materials, there have been used many theoretical and experimental methods. The experimental methods such as Morie, Photoelasticity, holography and caustics are primarily used by many researchers. In this paper, as the first step to develop the experimental method of caustics in bi-materials, the initial and caustic curve equations are established by introducing the existing stress component equations to the equation of the formation of Caustics and made the program for the generation of caustics in computer.

      • 유아의 기질과 교사-유아 관계에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 유아의 기질과 교사-유아 관계가 어떻게 나타나며, 유아의 기질별로 교사-유아 관계는 어떻게 나타나는지에 대한 경향성과 성차를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 연구 대상은 경기도 이천시에 소재한 공립 유치원의 9학급에 재원 중인 만 5세 학급 유아 185명(남아: 105명, 여아: 80명)이었다. 그 결과 순한 기질 유아에 대한 교사-유아 관계의 교사의 지각 정도는 갈등은 보통이거나 낮은 편이고, 친밀감은 보통이며, 의 존은 보통이거나 낮은 편이었다. 이를 유아의 성별로 보면, 갈등과 친밀감 그리고 의존에서 모두 남아와 여 아가 비슷하다고 느끼고 있었다. 더딘 기질 유아에 대한 교사-유아 관계의 교사의 지각 정도는 갈등은 보통이며, 친밀감과 의존은 높은 편이거나 보통이었다. 이를 유아의 성별로 보면, 갈등은 남아와 여아의 관계에서 비슷하게 겪고 있고, 친밀 감은 여아와 더 많이 느끼고 있으며, 의존은 남아와 더 많이 느끼고 있었다. 까다로운 기질 유아에 대한 교사-유아 관계의 교사의 지각 정도는 갈등은 높은 편이거나 보통이며, 친밀감 과 의존은 보통이거나 낮은 편이었다. 이를 성별로 보면, 갈등은 남아와 여아 모두에게 느끼고 있는 편이기는 하지만 남아와 더 많이 겪고 있으며, 친밀감과 의존은 남아와 여아의 관계에서 비슷하게 느끼고 있었다. Subjects for the study were 185 five-year-old children (105 boys and 80 girls) attending nine classes of public kindergartens in Icheon, Gyeonggi. Results of the study were as follows: First, percentages of easy, slow, and difficult temperament groups were 14.1%, 66.5%, and 19.5%, which were perceived by teachers. Easy temperament group had more girls than boys, whereas difficult temperament group had more boys than girls. Slow temperament group had similar numbers of boys and girls. Second, teachers perceived that their relationships with young children were rather harmonious and positive. However, they perceived their relationships to be changed by young children’s sex. Regarding the differences in sub-scales for teacher-child relationships by sex, teachers perceived conflict to be higher with boys than girls, while they perceived closeness and dependency to be higher to or with girls than boys. Third, teachers’ relationships with easy children were perceived to be medium or low conflict, average closeness, and medium or low dependency. These perceptions showed no differences by sex. Teachers’ relationships with slow children were perceived to be medium conflict and high or medium closeness and dependency. These perceptions showed differences by sex. Specifically, teachers perceived similar conflicts with boys and girls, higher closeness to girls than boys, and higher dependency with boys than girls. Teachers’ relationships with difficult children were perceived to be high or medium conflict and medium or low closeness and dependency. These perceptions on conflicting relationships showed differences by sex. In specific, teachers perceived similar conflicts with boys and girls but experienced higher conflict with boys than girls. No differences by sex were found in closeness and dependent dependency relationships.

        The optical properties of III-V compound semiconductor structure was investgated by photoreflectance (PR). The results show two signals at 1.42 and 1.73eV. These are attributed to the bandgap energy of GaAs, AlGaAs, respectively. Also, AlGaAs region showed weak signal. This signal is attributed to carbon or si defect.
