Conversion of methane to methanol is one of the most important methods in production of various chemicals from natural and shale gas as feedstock. Methanol was produced from methane using methanotroph as the biocatalyst. Various chemical reagents for the inhibition of methanol dehydrogenase was added the culture medium to enhance methanol accumulation. Sodium formate was supplied to regenerate reducing power during methanol accumulation.

High speed and large capacity optical communication networks are needed to meet the demands of increased traffic being created by mobile services. Advanced optical communication systems are based on high performance optical device modules that have small footprints and low power consumption. A microlens with a short coupling length and high coupling efficiency is an essential component of these compact optical modules, and silicon is the most widely studied material for this purpose because of its large refractive index at optical communication wavelengths. We used CODE V to simulate the coupling efficiency and the coupling tolerance of an optical system composed of a laser diode and an optical fiber coupled through a silicon lens. The maximum coupling efficiency for spherical lenses varied from -0.4 to -0.8 dB depending on the radius of curvature while -0.2 dB coupling loss was obtained with an optimized aspherical lens. Aspherical lenses exhibited larger coupling efficiencies while their coupling tolerance was slightly degraded.
김정은 시기 북한의 도발 행태 분석: 테러리즘의 관점에서

This paper attempts to analyze provocations towards the South conducted by the Kim Jong-Un regime of North Korea from the perspective of terrorism. Kim Jong-Un regime’s main methods of provocation are Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMDs) and Cyber-attacks, and these can be defined as acts of terrorism, since the provocations target unspecified persons for a highly political purpose. We identify the vicious cycle that the two methods enter into through a series of provocations. The majority of North Korea’s illegal funds generated through WMD trade are reinvested in the further development of WMDs. The illegal funds generated through cyber-attacks, while utilized to sustain the regime, are also invested in the development of WMDs, and thus the WMD threat and Cyber-threat mutually reinforce the effects of provocations against the South. Also, North Korea attempts to achieve its political goals without actually conducting WMD attacks, by generating fear in the South against the inhumane and destructive properties of the WMD threat. Cyber-attacks act as an conduit to augment the political effects of such ‘virtual’ WMD terror threats. In light of the existence of this vicious cycle, this paper draws attention to the need for immediate diplomatic and legal efforts to restrict the proliferation of North Korea’s WMD and cyber threats. 본 논문은 북한 김정은 정권의 대남도발을 테러리즘의 관점에서 조명한다. 김정은 정권의 주요 도발 수단은 대량파괴무기(이하 WMD로 표기) 위협과 사이버(cyber) 공격이며, 이 둘은 불특정 다수의 생명과 안전을 담보로 한 고도의 정치적 목적을 수반하는 도발이라는 점에서 테러 행위로 규정할 수 있다. WMD테러와 사이버테러를 통한 일련의 도발 과정 속에서 두 유형이 악순환 관계에 있음이 확인된다. 북한이 WMD 무기거래를 통해 벌어들인 불법 자금의 상당 부분은 다시 WMD 무기개발에 사용된다. 사이버 공간에서 불법적으로 획득한 자금 역시 정권 유지 비용 뿐만 아니라 WMD 무기 개발 용도로 쓰인다는 점에서 WMD 위협과 사이버 위협은 상호 악순환하면서 대남 도발 효과를 증폭시킨다. 또한 북한은 반인륜적이고 파괴적인 WMD 테러 위협에 대한 두려움을 상대방 측에 자아냄으로써 WMD 공격을 실제로 행사하지 않더라도 소기의 정치적 목표를 달성하고자 한다. 사이버 테러는 이러한 ‘가상적’ WMD 테러 위협의 정치적 효과를 강화하는 매개물이다. 북한의 WMD와 사이버 위협의 확산을 차단하고 효과적인 대비책을 강구하기 위해 외교적·법률적 노력이 시급함을 지적한다.
실리콘 프레넬 렌즈 기반 트랜스미터 광모듈의 광정렬 설계 및 특성 향상 연구

The silicon microlens is a key element in advanced optical packaging. However, the difficulty of its fabrication process and low yield have hindered the development of an silicon lens based optical device module. A silicon Fresnel lens was studied using ray tracing optical simulation, because its small sagittal height allows easy fabrication and high yield. The Fresnel lens was constructed from reference spherical lens with a controlled zone depth and partition number. The optimum zone depth was determined by target wavelength and the refractive index of the lens. The partition number was controlled for the highest coupling efficiency. The maximum coupling efficiency varied with the radius of curvature (ROC) of the lens and the coupling efficiency of the Fresnel lens was always higher than that of a reference lens. When the ROC was 700 μm, the Fresnel lens showed a coupling efficiency of -0.331 dB while the reference lens showed -0.674 dB. It was noted that the high coupling efficiency of the Fresnel lens could be obtained for a wide range of ROCs, which is huge advantage in the design of an optical module. The superior performance of the Fresnel lens was attributed to the smaller beam waist, as analyzed by the beam synthesis propagation method. The alignment tolerance of the Fresnel lens was similar to the reference lens in lateral offset, but it exhibited tighter tolerance with longitudinal offset.
