Longitudinal Analysis of Performance Pay for Special Education Student Group Achievement

Negative achievement growth of a special education student group was identified as they progressed from third to fifth grade. Linear Mixed Model(LMM) of three cohort groups was also employed to examine the relation between special education student group achievement and performance pay for special and regular education teachers. The result indicated that there was no positive outcome associated with performance pay; thus, this study raises the question effectiveness of performance pay for teacher efficacy. With respect to special education student learning, performance pay should be reorganized to support special education teachers. The implications of this study are also discussed.
개별화교육프로그램 작성과 운영과정에 대한 미국 특수교사의 인식에 미치는 변인에 관한 연구

This study investigated the satisfaction of 191 special educators with their IEP process. Thirty one percent of respondents indicated that they worked in the elementary school level, followed by high school level(20%) and middle school (17%). All respondents were divided into either a positive group or a comparison group. The positive group included special educators who expressed their positive attitudes toward the amount of time to write IEPs and ability to write effective Present Level of Education Performances(PLEPs), goals, and objectives. Logistic regression analysis was adopted to identify factors that distinguished two groups. The result identifies variables that are positively related to the probability of satisfaction with IEP process. These variables are following: (a) satisfaction with the method by which I write IEPs, (b) communication among IEP team members is open and receptive, (c) the formal communication system within IEP teams assures collaborative monitoring and responses to student performance, and (d) I feel confident in the use of my current IEP software. Implication for Korean special education was also discussed. 본 연구는 개별화교육프로그램(IEP)의 작성과 운영과정에 대한 미국 특수교사의 인식을 분석함으로써, IEP의 작성과 운영과정에 영향을 미치는 주요한 변인들을 확인하고자 하였다. 미네소타 주 191명의 IIEP 담당 특수교사들을 대상으로 한 본 연구는, 초등학교 IEP 담당 특수교사가 31%, 고등학교 20%, 중학교 17%, 유치원 8% 순이었다. IEP의 작성과 운영과정에 대한 특수교사의 태도를 종속변인으로, 특수교사변인, IEP 작성방법, IEP 팀 협력, IEP 작성과 운영을 지원하는 컴퓨터와 IEP 소프트웨어를 독립변인으로 하였다. 로지스틱 회귀분석을 통한 결과는 IEP 작성 방법, 팀 구성원들 간의 협력, 현재 사용하고 있는 IEP 소프트웨어에 대한 만족도가 IEP 작성과 운영과정에 대한 특수교사의 태도에 중요한 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인하였다. 이는 IEP의 실제를 개선하려 노력하는 우리나라의 특수교육에도 시사점을 제공해 준다. IEP 소프트웨어 개발과 보급에 대한 정책적 지원은 특수교사들이 보다 효율적으로 IEP 작성과 운영과정에 참여할 수 있도록 도울 것이다.
The Effect of Performance Pay on Special Education Student Group Achievement

Linear Mixed Model(LMM) was employed to examine the effect of performance pay for teachers in overall educational performance in mathematics and reading assessments. The result indicated that there was no effect of performance pay on special education student learning, thus, this study provides the provisional result that performance pay should reorganize its current feature to support special education. The implications of this study are also discussed.
미세 딤플 가공 표면의 수력학적 윤활특성에 대한 수치해석 연구

Recently, the manufacturing of micro-cavity by means of laser surface texturing (LST) technique and low friction study by the LST have been in great progress. Most of current works have been dealing with the effect of cavity on Fiction and wear. The main objective of the present study was to investigate numerically two-dimensional lubrication characteristics of micro-dimple shapes fabricated on solid surfaces, and this study utilized the commercial CFD code (Fluent V.6.3). For the evaluation, preliminary simulation was conducted and numerical predictions were compared with the analytic solution obtained from the Reynolds's equation. Mainly, the present study investigated the influence of dimple depth, pattern shapes, and film thickness on lubrication characteristics related to the reduction of friction. It is found that the existence of micro-dimpled surface makes it possible to substantially reduce the Fiction forces exerted on the surfaces. In particular, substantial decrease in shear stresses was observed as the lubricant film thickness decreases. For instance, in the case of the film thickness of 0.01 ㎜, the estimated shear stress decreases up to about 40%. It indicates that the film thickness would be important factor in designing the micro-dimpled surfaces. Furthermore, it was observed that such a optimum dimple depth would be present because the dimple depth larger than the optimum value did no longer affect the reduction in shear stresses.
의사결정 나무 모형 분석기법을 활용한 자살 생각에 영향을 미치는 위기 학생의 생태학적 요인 탐색

본 연구는 경기종단연구 5차 년도 데이터를 활용하여 자살 생각을 가진 중학교 2학년 위기 학생의 생태학적 요인을 탐색하고자 하였다. 머신러닝 기반의 의사결정 나무 모형은 자살 생각과 생태학적 요인 간의 교차성을 확인해 주었다. 자살 생각과 관련된 설문 문항에 “매우 그렇다”와 “전혀 그렇지 않다”라고 답한 학생들은 정신건강, 애착 소외, 학업 스트레스, 성별, 가구소득, 그리고 비행 요인에 대해 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보여 주었다. 이와 같은 연구 결과는 위기 학생에 대한 심리적․정서적 필요, 가정환경, 그리고 학교환경과 같은 생태학적 관점의 포괄적인 접근이 필요하다는 점을 확인해 주고 있다. 이와 함께, 의사결정 나무 모형과 같은 데이터 기반 접근이 학교 차원 긍정적 행동지원과 학교 안전 통합시스템에 대한 시사점을 함께 논의하였다. The primary purpose of this study was to explore the ecological factors of at-risk students with suicidal thoughts among second-year middle school students, participated in the 5th year of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study (GEPS). The decision-tree model, one of the machine learning algorithms, confirmed the intersectionality between suicidal ideation and the ecological factors of students at risk. For students who answered “strongly agree” and “not at all” to the question of suicidal ideation, mental health, attachment alienation, academic stress, gender, household income, and delinquency factors were identified as major factors with statistical significance. Based on the decision-tree model and its results, it was emphasized that it is necessary to understand the psychological and emotional needs, the home environment, and the school environment of students in crisis from an ecological perspective. In addition, the implications of the data-based approach, such as the decision tree model for School-Wide Positive Behavior Supports and the school safety integrated system (Wee project), were discussed.
