패시브 디자인을 통한 중동지역 친환경 호텔 계획에 관한 연구

        한태권 ( Taekwon Han ) 한국공간디자인학회 2017 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.12 No.4

(Background and Purpose) Sustainable space design is currently emphasized worldwide. Countries in the Middle East are paying attention to issues of sustainability and striving to promote sustainable development through eco-friendly design, requiring them to comply with sustainable certification. For sustainable space design, passive design is important to reduce the energy load and improve energy performance by utilizing the natural environment, thereby creating a comfortable milieu. The purpose of this study is to propose sustainable space design that conforms to the climate of the Middle East through passive design. To achieve this, we designed an eco-friendly hotel in the Middle East, and present the possibilities for its sustainability. (Method) As a study method, I first establish the basis of sustainable design by describing the concept and outlining the direction of passive design in the Middle East. Second, I propose spatial planning according to the design process. I describe climate analysis, the concept of passive design, application of passive design, and environmental effects. Furthermore, I verify the sustainability of spatial planning through an Ecotect simulation, which is an eco-friendly simulation tool. The scope of the study encompasses the direction of sustainable hotel design in Qatar, where many hotels are planned for the 2020 World Cup. (Results) First, I set the direction of passive design for sustainable hotel design through environmental analyses of solar radiation, temperature and humidity, rainfall, orientation, shading, and prevailing wind. Second, I develop guidelines for a passive design strategy. To this end, I create a “floating oasis,” which will save energy by reducing the thermal load and provide a comfortable space for tired travelers, namely a desert oasis in indoor and outdoor spaces. Third, I plan to reduce the solar radiation load through self-shading and a cool roof to save the energy required for cooling. This was naturally designed in the elevations. In addition, I design a sustainable hotel by planning natural ventilation and indoor vertical gardens to improve the quality of air indoors and occupants` comfort. (Conclusions) This study develops a passive design strategy that can reduce energy consumption by reducing the cooling load, which constitutes a large proportion of hotels` energy usage, especially in the Middle East. Therefore, this study is meaningful, because it presents a design direction for sustainable hotel design in the Middle East from a passive design strategy perspective.

자기조직화 공간의 친환경적 가능성 평가에 관한 연구

        한태권 ( Han Taekwon ) 한국공간디자인학회 2020 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.15 No.2

(Background and Purpose) In order to recover the relational diversity between space and environment in the recognition of the problem of space and environment, architectural design attempts on space as open systems that can be exchanged between individuals and society, inside and outside. The representative design attempt is Self-organization. There are many examples of self-organizing architecture that makes space using nature's self-organizing principle, but in order for this self-organizing space to be evaluated as a truly open system, it must have its own breathing with environment and sustainable characteristics like metabolism. However, at present, there is no research on self-organizing space in the environmental aspect of sustainability. Therefore, the evaluation of the eco-friendly characteristics of self-organizing space has not been properly performed. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the eco-friendly possibility of self-organizing space that create new organic relations between the environment and space in a rapidly changing modern society. (Method) First of all, in Chapter 2, self-organizing space is considered theoretically before analyzing according to the passive design. In Chapter 3, an analysis framework is prepared by deriving analytical elements to identify eco-friendly characteristics from a passive design perspective. In Chapter 4, I evaluates the eco-friendly characteristics of self-organizing space cases based on the analysis framework derived in Chapter 3 and suggests the implications of whether self-organizing spaces can present the eoc-friendly possibility of living systems from the perspective of passive design. (Results) The eco-friendly characteristics of the self-organized space were divided into five passive design items and analyzed by the Likert scale. As a result, space plan items in passive design by using natural ventilation, daylighting, and buffer space was the highest. On the other hand, envelope plan and greening plan items in passive design were not reflected much. Namely, the eco-friendly passive design in the self-organized space of modern architecture is to induce feedback with the surrounding environment such as daylighting or natural ventilation caused by non-linear interaction through dynamic opening between spaces, rather than to control energy by insulation. (Conclusions) Self-organized spaces must be characterized as breathing with their surroundings like metabolism in order to be evaluated as a true living system. Here, breathing is always moving, which means that the movement must be in a ring of great circulation with the environment. Since the eco-friendly design to freely exchange energy with the surrounding natural environment have not been conspicuous yet in the self-organized space, the eco-friendly possibility of the self-organized space is difficult to receive high evaluation. More passive design efforts are needed to compensate for this.

Vol.16 No.7

(Background and Purpose) As the impact of globalization and its active exchanges continue to increase, the hotel industry has developed for both business and leisure tourism. Due to this phenomenon, Seoul has experienced a surge in hotel construction. However, most big-name hotel brands have homogenous designs and standardized services, thereby creating challenges for foreign visitors who wish to experience the cultural history of a city through the design of the hotel space. This study aims to present a direction of sustainable renewable design in Amsterdam, a city that successfully harmonizes modern elements while still making good use of its traditional elements by implementing historical and cultural resource preservation policies. (Method) This study reflects the historical and spatial context of the idle area that was used in the Amsterdam government's regeneration project for the design and selection of the De Hallen complex and NDSM Wharf Island hotels; these spaces are now attracting attention as complex cultural and artistic complexes, and deriving contextual characteristics that appear in regenerative design hotels. For the research, literature and reference books related to urban regeneration and historical relationships are first theoretically reviewed, and the criteria for contextual characteristics are presented. Second, through precedent research that focused on the contextual perspective of regenerative design, characteristics are derived from each element by largely dividing them into visual (physical) and non-visual (meaningful) elements. Third, the design space of the selected buildings is organized along with the analysis frame from the perspective of the contextual elements. Lastly, by considering the relation of the given space and its environmental / regional features, the study re-examines the important contextual characteristics that can increase the cultural and artistic value of spaces through the process of regenerative design. (Results) According to the results of the case analysis, the two regions emerging as new cultural areas in Amsterdam are a good example of a successful recovery and revitalization of the local economy by redesigning neglected idle spaces into spaces that provide new experiences with characteristics by utilizing the historical context of the place. (Conclusions) This study proposes design directions for hotels that are being regenerated and constructed in historical cities. We hope that using examples of design characteristics derived from a contextual point of view will inform basic research on spatial planning through its connection with the complex cultural space.

배종정 ( Pei Congjing ),한태권 ( Han Taekwon ),김주연 ( Kim Jooyun ) 한국공간디자인학회 2021 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.16 No.6

(Background and Purpose) The museum has become an important cultural architecture as a typical architecture type and plays an important role in the city. Museums, premised on such background, emphasized the association with the locality of the region and can combine the technology and art systematically by taking the regional and natural environment, cultural tradition, etc., into consideration. This study was intended to investigate the spatial planning of the museums in Lingnan Region through a combination of the characteristics of modern cultural architecture based on the analysis of actual cases of the most typical museums in Lingnan Region. Starting from the perspective of critical localism, the goal is to analyze the spatial plan of the museum in Lingnan region to understand the spatial characteristics and architectural background. (Method) This study analyzed the museum architecture of Tang Dynasty in Lingnan Region comprehensively based on the perspective of regionalism. For the process of this study, first, the analytical key words necessary for architectural design were derived by adopting the 'perspective of regionalism' presented by Kenneth Frampton through analysis of literatures and preceding studies. Then, the types of the museums in Lingnan Region were classified, and finally, the characteristics of regionalism, manifested by the museums in Lingnan Region, were analyzed based on the perspective of critical regionalism. In this study, the characteristics of regionalism, revealed by the spatial planning of the museums in Lingnan Region, were analyzed by focusing primarily on the 4 characteristics of architecture, i.e., the openness, place, Tectonic, and sense in the museums in Lingnan Region. (Results) The Museums in Lingnan Region exhibited an open-minded attitude towards the use of architectural technology and regional elements. The place characteristics of the museums in Lingnan Region were expressed mainly through the spatial configuration elements such as distance, direction, and position. The Tetonic of the museums in Lingnan Region was formed in a structure that could blend harmoniously with the natural climate, allowing the visitors to view the exhibition space through various sensory experiences. (Conclusion) The spatial design of the museums in Lingnan Region was formed through inheritance of local traditional culture, simplicity, and re-creation. The architectural structure was created by taking the natural environment, such as climate conditions and geography, into consideration, and the architectural characteristics were brought out by selection of the building materials. The museums formed strong regional characteristics of the region based on grand and unique architectural mode, highlighting the architectural characteristics of miners. Many regions were heavily impacted by the Western modernism culture against the social background of globalization, and the Lingnan Region with splendid culture and history has strived to avoid assimilation. For such background, the Lingnan architecture, which retains traditional and historical characteristics, played a significant role.

        천타오 ( Chen Tao ),한태권 ( Han Taekwon ) 한국공간디자인학회 2021 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.16 No.5

(Background and Purpose) Children are one of the most important residential groups in cities. The ‘children’s best interests first principle‘ in the Convention on the Rights of the Child has been recognized by more and more countries, local governments and society. In 1996, the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements put forward the initiative of building ‘child-friendly cities‘, suggesting that the fundamental needs of children should be incorporated into urban planning and construction. In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals clearly stated that children can be ‘Walk independently on the street safely, freely meet and play with friends‘ is the core planning goal of a child-friendly city, and has repeatedly emphasized the importance of the community as the basic spatial unit of children‘s daily activities in building a child-friendly city.It can be seen that child-friendly community streets are an important part of building a child-friendly city. The purpose of this study is to provide a direction for the construction of a child-friendly city by deriving the characteristics of an independent activity space suitable for children based on theory and verifying them through analysis of best practices on foreign community streets. (Method) The research methods are as follows: First, review the literature related to children‘s independent activities, and conduct summary and analysis. Secondly, through preliminary research and analysis, it is concluded that the community street environment is a key element in affecting children‘s independent activities, and in-depth research is conducted to find out the characteristics of the elements for case analysis. Third, evaluate the four characteristics of street environmental factors, and propose a framework for the relationship between the main factors. Finally, the author tries to reconsider the characteristics of street places in urban communities from the perspective of children‘s independent activities, and finally provide a theoretical reference for the establishment of children-friendly cities in China. (Results) First, the most common elements of a distance environment are safety factors, accessibility factors, interest factors, and then comfort factors, natural factors, and reciprocity factors to create a community distance environment suitable for children's independent activities. Second, community streets are not only children's places, but also important ways and learning places for children's social access, and street environments suitable for children's independent mobility should help children explore the community, play with neighboring partners, and engage in social practice. (Conclusions) To promote children's independent mobility on community streets, first, children's rights and interests should be protected in the space of the community streets, second, community distance should be adapted to children's needs, third, children's participation is the key and quality assurance.

(Background and Purpose) Shanghai is a cradle of modern Chinese industry, contributing greatly to the development of Chinese industry. After the 2010 Shanghai Expo ended, the Yangpu District government launched a plan for the East Bund Industrial Area after the successful regeneration of the Bin River industry in Huangpu District. At the end of 2019, at the World Architecture Festival, known as the 'Oscar' in the architectural world, the pilot section of the Dongwetan Binjiang Public Space in Yangpo-gu, Shanghai won the 'Urban Landscape Category Award' and 'Scenery of the Year Award of the Year.' The focus of the award is to establish the design concept with industrial inheritance as the core, innovate the design method and means, fully respect the original ecological environment and architectural context, and renew the cultural value of industrial heritage in the present society. This study aims to analyze the case of industrial heritage regeneration in public spaces in East Bund, Shanghai, to provide direction on how localism should be reflected in future industrial heritage regeneration design, and to promote proper preservation and development of industrial heritage in terms of regeneration. (Method) Based on localist theoretical studies, Shanghai Shipyard Park, Shanghai Water Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai East Fish Wharf, Shanghai Bin River Creative Industrial Center, Shanghai Electricity Plant Analysis Park, Shanghai International Fashion Center, Shanghai Dongwaitan Public Space. (Results) Through the analysis of the characteristics of industrial heritage regeneration regionalism in Shanghai's East Bund public space, localistic characteristics appear strongly in the process of designing and expressing designs for space regeneration, although other design offices design and designers' perspectives differ. In other words, this case analysis showed that in order for regeneration of such industrial heritage to be sustainable and successful, such localistic logic or characteristics must be reflected. (Conclusions) Through the inner law of Shanghai East Bund Industrial Heritage Regeneration, these industrial heritage sites respect the original heritage, respect the location characteristics, and utilize the historical memory of the site, eventually create strong regional characteristics, openness, pluralization, and beloved urban public leisure. First, localism is an important factor in the success of industrial heritage regeneration, and localism theory cannot be stopped for local sustainability and cannot be treated with a fragmentary perspective. Second, the regeneration of industrial heritage based on the characteristics of regionalism can accurately identify the regeneration direction of industrial heritage, increase the efficiency of regeneration, and fully express the cultivation of industrial heritage.

배종정 ( Pei Congjing ),한태권 ( Han Taekwon ),김주연 ( Kim Jooyun ) 한국공간디자인학회 2020 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.15 No.8

(Background and Purpose) After the Second World War, with active information sharing and the modernization of transportation networks, various cultures, ideas, and worldviews have been penetrated and merged, reinforced by current global architectural culture’s mutual influence. Thus, external and internal functions, as well as the spatial composition, of museum buildings in northern and southern Chinese cities have similar patterns, design techniques, materials, and structures, and their construction techniques and architectural forms tend to be consistent. However, global culture still has various cultural characteristics. Due to the influence of historical traditions, customs, and values, each region of each nation has paid more attention to and developed its own unique architectural culture. Therefore, as global culture is becoming increasingly similar, this thesis aims to study the characteristics of regionalism in the spatial planning of the Suzhou Museum from the perspective of regionalism. (Method) First, based on advanced research, we analyze the concept and museum design related to the regionality of the building. Then, we take the Suzhou Museum as the object and divide it into five parts for analysis: the space layout, scale, materials, light and color, and the regional characteristics of architectural symbols. Next, we examine the local natural and cultural elements from the perspective of regionalism in Suzhou, study the characteristics of local ancient buildings, and analyze the regionalism characteristics of the museum’s space planning. (Results) This research analyzes and studies the regional characteristics of the Suzhou Museum buildings based on the natural and cultural background factors in Suzhou. Additionally, through field investigation and analysis of the status of the Suzhou Museum, the regional characteristics of its space planning are discussed. In summary, in spatial planning and design, the first thing to consider is the integration of the building and the regional environment. The spatial scale and the surrounding buildings are in harmony. The regionalism of the building image is easy to identify. Moreover, traditional architectural symbols have characteristics of that period, which can reflect the buildings’ historical significance and cultural values. These architectural traditional symbols are also referenced in modern architecture. (Conclusions) Under the context of buildings gradually converging, it is imperative to pursue the regional cultural characteristics of the museum as well as improve its architectural design and aesthetic level. Therefore, this research hopes to construct a plan that highlights the regional characteristics of the museum while retaining the cultural characteristics of the city. Then, we try to find out the essence of regional culture, conduct a systematic analysis of modernity and tradition, regional culture, and global culture according to the trend of the time, and explore ways to reflect regional and contemporary museum space architecture.

정다은 ( Daeun Jung ),한태권 ( Taekwon Han ),김주연 ( Jooyun Kim ) 한국공간디자인학회 2018 한국공간디자인학회논문집 Vol.13 No.2

(Background and Purpose) ‘Stress’ is one of the words people use most these days. To get rid of stress, people tend to escape their everyday life and realize ideals beyond consumption, with an attitude that places the most importance on happiness. Such emotions are caused by the desire to escape from reality and to move to another place from reality. People try to find hidden spaces such as their house, a corner seat, or a place far from the door in public spaces where they can spend personal time even if it is not a space that is different from reality. Thus, based on this psychology, many places, such as popular commercial spaces, exhibition spaces, and residential spaces, include such covert spaces. This study aims to present various directions of space production by analyzing the spatial perception characteristics of the special experience that intimate spaces can offer people in terms of their space experience. (Method) In this study, we provide a clear definition of ambiguous spaces. We then classify three spatial types according to the use of intimate spaces and derive presentation elements by applying spatial perception characteristics to intimate spaces. The elements derived from this are used to analyze examples from 21st century countries that have characteristics of “space in space.” (Results) The temporal type space showed the characteristic that the space user seeks a space separated from the outside in the empirical and psychological perception factors. It seems to be a temporary space to temporarily find a space with a sense of security to avoid the gaze of others. Therefore, individuals need an item that can be bounded so that they can distinguish their own area. The conceptual space type should form a space to reveal the characteristics of the covert space using all the affecting perceptual elements. Therefore, the covert-rendering perception elements account for a high percentage of the overall elements. Commercial spaces are also characterized by a similar perception factor to conceptual spaces, but with respect to the size and lighting of the space, they differ from conceptual spaces. In the sense that intimacy is a marketing space, it can be recognized to offer a special existence for the space user. Segregation using visual blocking elements is necessary to increase consumption. (Conclusions) Covert spaces can be difficult to provide in all spaces in general because the purpose of use is different for each space. However, if they are well applied in the right place, the space can be suitable for people to use comfortably. Therefore, this study suggests that if a space that meets the conditions for forming an intimate space is provided according to the results of this study, it can become a stimulating factor for human curiosity, and it can be used as a place where the user of the space can feel a sense of satisfaction and security.
