8-azaflavin was synthesized by condensation of 4-amino-3-N-methylamino pyridune and N-methylalloxane. An oxidation-active flavin mimic contributed substantially to flavin chemistry in model systems. One of the ways of exploting oxidation-active flavin mimics could be by introducing electron-withdrawing groups into the isoalloxazine ring thus providing an electron dificient flavin. We report that 8-azaflavin show remarkably high oxidizing activities for the oxidations of N-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide(BNAH) and nitroalkanes in aqueous solution.

Basic experiments were carried out for oxidative deodorization of sodium sulfide in malodorous waste liquid with hydrogen peroxide. Absorptive oxidation of hydrogen sulfide gas with hydrogen peroxide was also investigated using a packed column. The following results were obtained. Although oxidation of a soudium sulfide aqueous solution (3.0×10^(-)3 g-mol/ℓ) with a hadrogen peroxide aqueous solution (3.0×10^(-2) g-mol/ℓ) at 25℃ was very slow in the alkaline pH range, the reaction could be accelerated either by using hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution higher than 1.2×10^(-2) g-mol/ℓ or by adding iron(Ⅲ) ion in the pH range 10∼11. The optimum condition of absorptive oxidation of hydrogen sulfide gad(less than 20 ppm), whose space velocity is 102 m/min (gas flow rate 4lkg/hr), with hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution in a 60cm high packed column at a room temperature (25±2℃) is as follows ; pH value of the absorptive solution around 11 (overall volume coefficient, K_(G)a 1516 kg-mol/㎥. hr. atm), ratio of liquid/gas 2 (liquid flow rate : 82 kg/hr), concentration of the hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution 12.0×l0^(-2) g-mol/ℓ.
Biofilter에 의한 DMS(CH₃SCH₃)의 生物學的除去

Biological deodorization of dimethyl sulfide(CH₃SCH₃) was studied using different fabrics as the carriers of microorganisms in laboratory scale deodorizing system. The activated carbon fabric FN-200CF-15 was best packing material compared with other packing materials. The maximum removal rate(V_(m)) and saturation constant(K_(s)) evaluated by using Michaelis-Menten equation was 2.28(g-s/kg-dry fab. day), 6.28(ppm) respectively in FN-200 CF-15 biofilter. Strain IM12 isolated from the carbon fabric FN-2000CF-15 biofilter in modified Waksman medium successfully degraded dimethyl sulfide.
