A mathematical model for continuous direct esterification reaction between terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol was proposed and verified by commercial plant data. The effect of various operating variables, e.g., reaction pressure, temperature, feeding molar ratio, and residence time on the degree of esterification, degree of polymerization, side product concentration, and liquid fraction was investigated. The simulated results shows that productivity is very sensitive to the feed mole ratio and temperature. The degree of esterification and liquid fraction increase with decreasing reaction pressure. The control of residence time and transportation time between reactors is very important to the diethylene glycol concentration since side product formation is significantly influenced by residence time. Solid phase vanishes independent of reaction condition when degree of esterifiaction is over 90 percent.

This study, a sub-one of comprehensive research works titled under "Rural Resources Evaluation System", tried to propose a rational methodology for development of rating tabulation on evaluation items. Firstly, the database system for handling of original/processed data of each evaluation items was constructed, being mainly focussed on the possibilities of data acquisition and statistical treatment. The rating tabulation system developed in the study has the formalized evaluation classes as 2 or 5 for convenience/simplification of analysis works. For each evaluation item in lower step of the goal system, 5 types of rating technique were arranged, which were based on statistical analysis using mean and standard deviation values(Type I), its existence or not(Type II), relative significance of its holding volume(Type III), synthesized weighting scale of its quality and quantity(Type IV), and the others(Type V). And, standardized 4-steps procedure for rating tabulation was proposed. Finally, the rating tabulation system developed in the study was applied to each evaluation item of goal system, from which the numerically-valued ranking criteria was obtained.
농어촌 도로의 정비현황 조사 분석 -전남 군지역을 중심으로-

This study was carried out to propose some useful advices for the improvement policy of the minor rural roads. For detailed case studies on structural improvement level of the minor rural roads, 5 county areas in Chonnarn Province were selected ; Damyang (peri-urban), Gurye(remoter mountainous), Jindo(remostest island), Yuongam(intermediate flat) and Bosung (intermediate semi-mountainous). In each county, the offcial survey data on pavement types, 쟝손 and ratios of district(Myun in Korean) and parish(Ri in Korean) roads were collected. There were no apparent differences between district and parish roads in terms of structural improvement level, while the former was ranked higher than the latter in the minor rural road improvement law, so, the present hierarchial classification system of rural roads should be readjusted. And above a third of minor rural roads in the case study areas did not meet the statutory minimum level of road width, which means the necessity of substantial upgrade of road improvement works in rural areas.

This study was carried out to find out the time-dependent change of central functions in the depopolated rural areas. Three county areas were selected for the case study ; Haenam(as a remote flat area), Goksung(as an intermediate mountainous area), and Hwasun(as a peri-urban area). For each district area administered by each county, service facilities stock was surveyed at both the present(`02) and the past(`89 of `94)time, and its functional index checked. From the study results, table-tennis rooms, oil shops and inns were ascertained to be disappeared now in the absolute of real terms, while beer halls, restaruants and bakeries to be sharply increased. Generally, in spite of the substantial depopulation in the past decade, service facilities stock has been increased in and concentrated to the highest order of rural area (county office seated district). However, where this center leans to the outer side of its county area and to the opposite direction against the regional center, the dependent level of service function on the highest center have decreased.

As a rational decision-making process of county-level area development, this study designed 3-step framework : function-giving(areal analysis) on unit planning area by decision matrix of land suitability, check of typical characteristics of each function area and formulation of its future development strategies. Two alternatives were suggested as the areal analysis method, of which one is equal ordering / valuing technique of checking indices for land suitability classfication and the other preferential weighting technique. And then, under the algorithm specially defined in this study, land suitability maps(Fig.2,3) of the case study area (Seungju-county area, Chonnam-province, Korea) were drawn from the areal analysis results. By use of land suitability classification results, unique characteristics of typical function areas were defined (on 7 types of alternative 1 , 8 types of II ) and their future development strategies were formulated in the case study area, According to the categorization criteria in this study, all the villages of the case area were classfied as a suitable type of function areas illustrated in this study.

As a initial methodological approach to rational land use planning in the county-level area, three types of land suitability classification techniques were examined from the viewpoint of their practical applicability through the case study of Seungju-gun area, Chonnam-province, Korea : major factors' criteria(method I ), principal component analysis( I ), and local monitoring( R( ). Each method has its strong and weak points as shown in Tab.-5. Therefore, when its practical application, there seem to be wide-range methodological selectivities from exclusive use of the best one to intermethodological combination of related ones In the beginning stage, intermethodological combination of all three types were tried to formulate the best solution possible. However, because of reliability problem of method R accrued from non- uniformity of evaluators'quality, only two methods( 1 , E ) were combined into a new evaluation method The applied results of the new combined method to case study area are shown in Fig.-2, 3 and 4.

Appearance of textile fabrics, such as natural fiber textiles including cotton and wool, and synthetic fiber textiles, including nylon and polyester, is one of the important properties along with the handle of fabrics that are closely related to the factors that govern the preferences of end-users. When light rays impinge upon the synthetic filament fiber surface, they are separated into reflected and refracted components whose intensities are reduced relative to that of the incident beam. The filament configuration in the yarn comprising the fabric has great influence on the reflected and refracted, or transmitted light of the fabric. Reflective properties of filament yarn were simulated based on a three-dimensional crimped filament model that reflects and refracts light rays. Transmissive properties were simulated like-wise based on a three-dimensional cylinder model. Images of nylon filament plain fabric were analyzed using image analysis methods for transmitted and reflected light and compared with the results from the three-dimensional models. The properties predicted by the three-dimensional models established in this work could explain the transmission and reflection of actual nylon filament fabric samples.
