Generally, highly reliable induction motors have been used for railways. The efficiency of induction motors has increased considerably due to the minimum energy performance standard (MEPS), but the power density limitation of induction motors has yet to be overcome. In order to overcome the power density limitation of induction motors, research to replace induction motors by applying permanent magnet synchronous motors has been actively conducted. However, permanent magnet synchronous motors have problems such as demagnetization of the permanent magnet, and decreasing torque due to high temperature, and so the temperature of the motor must be accurately measured. However, it is not possibly to accurately measure the temperature of the motor winding because temperature sensors can only measure a few positions on the winding. Therefore, in this paper, an equation was designed using correlation analysis between winding temperature of motor, current density, and operating speed in the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor for railway vehicles. Based on this equation, an estimation method is proposed for the winding temperature of motors at all operating speeds.

The important parts of E-bike are frame, battery, motor, and controller. Especially, motor and controller are major parts which move the E-bike and person. This paper deals with design and advanced performance of the motor and controller for E-bike. Drive method of permanent magnet motor can be largely divided into two types. One is BLDC drive and the other is BLAC drive. Merits of BLDC drive are low cost, small size and simple drive, but performances are not good compare with BLAC drive. So, This paper deals with lower acoustic noise and high efficiency of BLDC drive as BLAC drive.

Recently, it has to design the motor to raise power density because of many necessary application, such as home appliances and hybrid electric vehicles. Power of motor is made up of the torque and speed. So, if the motor which is the same size and shape is designed to raise speed, power and power density are increase. However, it is not easy to control interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor at high speed due to voltage constraint. So, this paper proposed simple method to solve the high speed control problem in the motor design stage, when it assumes that motor drive system has to have current margin. Basic idea is changing number of turns and current while retaining the same magnetomotive force (MMF) in this paper.

However, it is not easy to control interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor at high speed due to voltage constraint. So, this paper proposed simple method to solve the high speed control problem in the motor design stage, when it assumes that motor drive system has to have current margin. Basic idea is changing number of turns and current while retaining the same magnetomotive force (MMF) in this paper. Also, performances of motor are related to the operating temperature which is affected by copper loss and core loss. So, temperature saturation test is administered to the motor to measure the maximum performance of the motor. However, it is not easy to measure the performances of motor due to the test takes longer. Therefore, this paper proposes the method to estimate the performances using the several times tests and simple equations.

Brushless DC Motor (BLDCM) is DC motor and Interior PM Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) is AC motor. Besides their way of control is different. But it is similar that both motors rotate synchronous velocity and use the permanent magnet. So, it is an objective to grasp a tendency of motor design and efficiency of motor through a characteristic comparison of BLDCM and IPMSM with the same power, rotation velocity, torque and input voltage.
