Recently rapid urbanization facilitates development of high-rise building complex including apartment and office building in urban area. Many problems related with high -rise building are reported. Especially, unpleasant strong winds in pedestrian area are frequently encountered around the high-rise building. CFD simulation methods are used to analyze the wind environment of pedestrian level in high-rise building block. However, the results show differences between CFD and measurement. This difference is attributed to improper use of CFD. Conventional CFD simulation for wind environment around high-rise building does not describe the effect of trees, shrubs and plants near ground which affect the wind environment of pedestrian level. Canopy model can be used to reproduce the aerodynamic effects of trees, shrubs and plants near ground. In this paper, CFD simulation methods coupled with the tree canopy model to predict wind environment of pedestrian level in high-rise residential building block were suggested and the validity was analyzed by comparison between measurement and CFD results.

Objective : This study was performed to estimate the association between cigarette smoking and effect of oriental medical treatment in low back pain. Methods : We reviewed 40 male patients of low back pain, who were hospitalized at the Oriental Medical Hospital of Se-Myung University. 40 patients were divided into 2 groups(smokers, non-smokers) and effective scores of treatments were measured on age, symptom, etc. Result & Conclusion : Between smokers and non-smokers, statistically significant differences were not found in effective scores of treatments of low back pain, but in almost every non-smokers, they were higher than those of smokers. They seems to show that possibility of the association between cigarette smoking and effect of oriental medical treatment in low back pain.

Due to rapid urbanization, most cities has been developed without considering the outdoor thermal comfort. As a result, many problems occur in urban area such as wind chill effect in winter and heat island effect in summer. Recently, rising interest in urban environment for sustainable community, many research results for outdoor thermal environment were suggested. However, proceeding researches were focused on heat island in urban area. In these days, we suffer from unexampled cold climate in winter and need to reconsider the conventionla outdoor design guidelines. In this study, new outdoor thermal comfort index and assesment methods were proposed. New outdoor thermal comfort index, CSDH(Cold Sense Degree Hour) and HSDH(Hot Sense Degree Hour) is based on SET*, can be calculated with local climate data. In this paper, the concept of the CSDH and HSDH was described. The outdoor thermal comfort for 10 main city in Korea were calculated and compared with the result for Hong Kong.

This research attempts to develope the base model to find determinants of the GFRIs’(Government Funded Research Institutes) research performance focused on the institutional intrinsic, such as organization, manpower structure, and budget structure. The model is tested using the data of the 24 GFRIs under the National Research Council from 2011 to 2015 by multiple linear regression analysis.This research finds that the policy differentiation based on the taxonomy of institutional eigen missions, which make all the GFRIs’ categorize into basic type, public-infra type, and industrialization type, is valid approach. And this paper finds also that increasing the proportion of permanent works or increasing the proportion of scientist works in manpower structure has negative effects on the academic performance in the GFRIs of basic and public-infra type. And increasing the proportion of contract based budgeting in budget structure has positive effects on the academic performance in the GFRIs of basic type. Specially, installing a department of performance management and a department of research assistance/support in the GFRIs has positive effects on research performance with relatively high strength than the other factors. This paper will be helpful to policy makers to make directions to improve performance of GFRIs.

Basement parking lot in city is increased steadily according to urban concentration and vehicle increment. Ventilation performance in basement parking lot is significant because air pollutant is occurred by vehicle exhaust emission. Reasonable ventilation volume depends on the design criteria of air pollutant emission for ventilation performance securement. But, design criteria was uncertain and design experience numerical value applied to ventilation volume calculation. The purpose of this study is to clarify the design criteria of CO emission quantity from vehicles in basement parking lot for ventilation performance securement.

Typically, natural ventilation systems are designed as same size without considering the wind environment of each household in multi-residential building block. But wind environments around each household in building block are varied by several factors (building shape, height, arrangement changes, vertical location, air velocity, pressure difference, etc.), this results in the difference of ventilation performance in each household. In this paper, the non-uniform natural ventilation performances of each household in multi-residential hosing block were examined through analyzing the wind environmental properties and wind pressure coefficients by CFD simulation.

The reason for the difference is that conventional CFD simulation couldn't consider the effect of trees, shrubs and plants which affect the wind environment. Canopy model is a solution to solve the limitation of CFD analysis. In this paper, the canopy model to predict wind environment of pedestrian level by CFD simulation will be proposed and the validity will be analyzed by comparison of measurement and CFD prediction.
