        정병웅,김진수 순천향대학교 교수학습개발센터 2005 순천향 사회과학연구 Vol.11 No.2

Tourism is one of the various ways to experience different life styles, and to be in touch with traditional life styles of an other country or territory. This kind of tourism became popular after the 1990’s, which was due to the disappearance of tradition and the peak of industrialization. A trend to pursue the tradition and the past is related with not only tourist demand, but also tourism policy. The development of cultural tourism is helpful for the local development because of a economic method and rectifying the structural and seasonal vulnerability of tourism. The main attractions of traditional things among the cultural tourism resources in the insights to understand ancestors’ life style. The linkage between tourism and traditional culture is for the reconstruction of the past in the present by reproduction. But, sometimes traditional facts are distorted in the process of reconstruction and qualitative factors which has to be continued are disregarded to keep short term profits. In the case of folk villages, which the whole village is a tourism product, has lost the historical explanation and attractivity as a tourism resource by excessive business-related facilities. As a result visitors who want to touch the past way of life can not truly experience it. Authenticity and pursuing the short term profits are directly opposed ideas. Therefore it is desirable to keep a balance with authenticity and pursuing business profit, to keep value of attraction and sustainable cultural tourism.

      • 해양관광개발의 방향과 과제 : 강원동해안을 중심으로 Focusing on the Gwangwon East Coastlines

정병웅 순천향대학교 사회과학연구소 2001 순천향 사회과학연구 Vol.7 No.2

As the national income increases, leisure activities become more divergent and the marine tourism is gaining more attention and becoming more popular as one of the new ways of leisure activities these days. Considering the ongoing debate on the introduction of the 'five working days a week' instead of present 'six working days a week', we can expect that the demand for the marine tourism scheduled to be developed in Gwangwon East Coastlines will be on the rise. It is obvious that in modern tourism today, tourists tend to turn their eyes away from the traditionally regimental 'mass tourism' and seek an alternative tourism where they can actually 'experience' rather than just 'sightsee' in the tourist destination. In this vein the marine tourism would be the one type of alternative tourism that could fulfill tourists' desires. As for Gwangwon East Coastlines, it is one of the best tourist attractions, with its long coast lines, mountain areas, and beautiful natural scenary. Also it is easy for the people in the metropolitan Seoul to gain access to it. Marine tourism remains as the last alternative tourist attraction. And Gwangwon East Coastlines is very popular for its clean and clear natural resources and surroundings. Since it is very difficult or almost impossible to restore and reconstruct the natural resources and environment once they are ruined or destroyed, great care must be taken in developing such areas. The ultimate purpose of the development of Gwangwon East Coastlines should be that it satisfies tourists to the fullest and has a full cooperation from the local citizens by setting up a system where they could willingly participate. Moreover more investment and efforts should be made to recruit specialists in this area and to offer them good training and education, for it is the people who can make all these things possible.

      • 영월지역 생태·문화관광 활성화 방안에 관한 연구

정병웅,전영철 도립 강원전문대학 1999 道立 江原專門大學 論文集 Vol.2 No.-

The tourism development in Yongwol area has put its emphasis on the economic efficiency up to current dates, which, however, has not reimburses the consequential profit to the local citizens. Furthermore, the natural environment, cultural preservation and awareness in that region which the tourism development, gives rise to have, in a greats extent, been overlooked, whereas, rather negative aspects such as nature destruction, environmental pollution, local indigenous, etc, only emerged as the consequential results, which induced the expansion of regional egotism for tourism development. As we see in many instances, both, in and out of the country, thin type of development typically reflects on ignorance of the regional characteristics of autonomies by the central government and conglomerates.
