Applying human engineering simulation to analyzing work capability and movements of operators during manufacturing is highly demanded. However, difficulty in modeling digital human required for simulation makes engineers to be reluctant to utilize human simulation for their tasks. This paper addresses such problem on human engineering simulation by developing the technology to automatize human modeling with multiple Kinects at different depths. The Kinects enable us to acquire the movements of digital human which are essential data for implementing human engineering simulation. In this paper, we present a system for modeling automation of digital human. Especially, the system provides a way of generating the digital model of workers’ movement and position using multiple Kinects which cannot be generated by single Kinect. Lastly, we verify the effects of the developed system in terms of modeling time and accuracy by applying the system to four different scenarios. In conclusion, the proposed system makes it possible to generate the digital human model easily and reduce costs and time for human engineering simulation.

This study explains how to solve manufacturing problems easily and efficiently by using big data analysis technique. To do this, we propose a big data analysis platform and manufacturing specialized library. The Big Data Analysis platform consists of an application for modeling, an analysis engine, and a Hadoop based data repository. The application helps users easily create models for data analysis using manufacturing specialized libraries. Analytical models modeled using libraries are analyzed through an analysis engine. Manufacturing problem-specific libraries include pre-processing, analysis, and visualization algorithms required for data analysis. Analysis can be performed using predefined libraries depending on quality, equipment, process/energy manufacturing issues. The developed platform and manufacturing specialized library were applied to the quality problem solving process of die casting companies and verified the results and limitations of the research.

In manufacturing companies, different types of production have been developed based on diverse production strategies and differentiated technologies. The production systems have become smart, factories are filled with unmanned manufacturing lines, and sustainable manufacturing technologies are under development. Nowadays, the digital manufacturing technology is being adopted and used in manufacturing industries. When this technology is applied, a lot of efforts, time and cost are required and training professionals in-house is limited. In this paper, we introduce e-FEED system (electronic based Front End Engineering and Design) that is the integrated design and analysis system for optimized manufacturing line development on virtual environment. This system provides the functions that can be designed easily using library and template based on standardized modules and analyzed automatically the logistic and capacity simulation by one-click and verified the result using visual reports. Also, we can review the factory layout using automatically created 3D virtual factory and increase the knowledge reuse by e-FEED system.
