One hundred and sixteen strains of E. coli isolated from drainage in Seoul city in 1987 and 104 strains of E. coli isolated from stools of domestic animals in suburb of Seoul in 1987 were examined for susceptibilities to 10 antimicrobial agents by the agar dilution method. The susceptibilities of the two groups to each antimicrobial agent were compared and correlations in the antimicrobial susceptibility of the 220 strains of E. coli among the 10 antimicrobial agents were also analyzed. The frequency of resistance strains was highest to tetracycline with 77%, and followed by chloramphenicol, streptomycin, ampicillin, kanamycin and cephalosporin in the decreasing order, changing from 62% to 10%. Strains resistant to tobramycin, nalidixic acid, gentamicin and amikacin occupied 3 strains, 2 strains, 2 strains and 1 strain respectively.

Forty-eight strains of Salmonella and forty-two strains of Serratia species isolated from patients and twenty-one strains of Vibrio species isolated from coastal areas in Mokpo were tested for their susceptibility to Perillae herba extracts and fourteen antimicrobial agents. The transfer of drug resistance was tested by conjugation. The following results were obtained. 1. Aqueous extract and ethanol extract of Perillae herba was the most active against Vibrio. Aqueous extract was more effective than ethanol extract. 2. The frequency of resistant strains of Salmonella was the highest to streptomycin(Sm) with 62.5%, Serratia to cephradine(Cr) with 100%, and Vibrio to cephradine(Cr) with 71.43%. And 31 strains (64.58%) of Salmonella species, 42 strains (100%) of Serratia species and 16 strains (76.19) of Vibrio species were resistant to one or more drugs tested. The frequency of multiple drug-resistant strains was much higher in the Serratia species than in the Salmonella or Vibrio species. 3. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of third-generation cephalosporins, aztreonam and ciprofloxacin was very low compared with those of other antimicrobial agents tested, and Salmonella showed a tendency to be more sensitive than Serratia or Vibrio. 4. In the transfer test of drug resistance by conjugation, multiple drug-resistant strains transferred their partial patterns of resistance to recipient and the transfer was considered to be mediated by R-plasmid. 5. The plasmid profiles were studied by the methods of SDS lysis and agarose gel electrophoresis. Multiple drug-resistant strains of Salmenella showed one or two plasmids of molacular size ranging 3.50 to 26.55 Mdal. The conjugative R-plasmids of 11.63 Mdal and 26.55 Mdal were noted in transconjugants. In the multiple drug-resistant strains of Serratia, one to three plasmids of 5.09-35.8 Mdal were transferred by conjugation.
운지버섯 열수 추출액이 Sarcoma-180 복강암세포에 대한 NK 활성도 및 백혈구의 Chemotaxis에 미치는 영향

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the inhibitory effect of Water-Soluble Extraction from Coriolus versicolor on the growth of tumor cells through the activation of immunocytes in vivo. The lymphocytes were seperated from the spleen of tumor-bearing mice administrated orally Coriolus versicolor extract. The cytotoxicity of NK cells was observed by using the method of four-hours ^(51)Cr-release. Chemotaxis of leukocytes seperated from peripheral blood was measured using Modified Boyden chamber. The results obtained were summarized as following. 1. The cytotoxicity of NK cells from normal saline treated tumor-bearing mice was not significantly increased, but the cytotoxicity of NK cells from Coriolus versicolor treated tumor-bearing mice was significantly increased (P<0.025). 2. The chemotaxis of leukocytes from normal saline treated tumor-bearing mice was not significantly increased, but the chemotaxis of leukocytes from Coriolus versicolor treated tumor-bearing mice was significantly increased (P<0.025). According to these results, the Water-Soluble Extraction from Coriolus versicolor could inhibit the growth of mouse tumor cells through the activation of cytotoxicity of NK cells and the activation of chemotactic leukocytes.
