Evaluation of the urinary pregnandiol in the urine obtained from six cases of normal gravida and nine cases of normal puerpera were performed by Guterman and Schraeder`s method. Results are shown below. 1) The urinary pregnandiol levels in the normal gravida present the gradual increase in amount from 4th week of gestation to 20th week and reach the highest level at about 32nd ~ 36th week of gestation, however, gradual decrease are observed thereafter. 2) The urinary pregnandiol level in the urine obtained from women in the puerperium present adrupt falls immediately after the delivery and become negligible on fifth post-partum day thereafter.

인삼(人蔘)의 중추신경(中樞神經)에 대(對)한 작용(作用)

Results of an experiment on the general behavior of rats in order to explore the possible pharmacological actions of Panax Ginseng upon the central nervous system can be summarized as follows: 1) The rats treated with Ginseng-saponin intraperitoneally with the doses of 50 or 100 mg/kg show the decreased sleeping component and increase in lying and grooming component and walking and rearing component of general behavior. 2) There are no difference between control group and saline treated group in pattern of general behavior components. 3) In the Ginseng-saponin treated groups, the amphetamine stimulated walking and rearing component of genenarl behavior are reduced but lying and grooming component are elevated. 4) Ginseng-saponin shows very low acute toxicity in mice. The LD₅₀ in mice of 24 hours after intraperitoneal injection was 795 mg/kg. From the above findings, it is to suggest that the Ginseng saponin might stimulate the central nervous system but its mode of action appears to be different from that of amphetamine. And the effects of Ginseng saponin may be varied depending on various experimental situation or condition of animals.

Glycyrrhizin이 Liver Glycogen Storage에 미치는 영향(影響)

Many investigators reported the mineral corticoid hormon-like action of Glycyrrhizin. The other investigators suggested concerning the glucocorticoid hormon-like action. Authors had been observed the glycogen content of the liver to make sure the relationship between glucocorticoid like action of Glycyrrhizin and glucose metabolism in the liver. There was significant increase in the liver glycogen content in rat fed Glycyrrhizin for two weeks, however it was confirmed that Glucuronic acid combined with Glucuronic was unable to make any influence to glycogen content. The relation concerning the effect of Glycyrrhizin on liver glycogen and its mechanism of action might be needed followup study.

"Tinidazole"(Fasigyn)에 依한 Giardia Lamblia의 驅蟲效果

"Tinidazole a new antiflagellate drug, was given orally for 3-7 days to 99 children infected with G.lamblia. Stool examination for detection and evaluation of therapeutic on giardiasis were made by formaline-ether concentration techniques. The children were grouped according to doses and the duration of administration of the drug. The results were summarized as follows; 1) Except 1 case out of 99 children, none of the children showed G. lamblia in the stool examination 2 weeks after administration of the drug, regardless of groups. 2) 4 weeks after administration of the drug, group A (10 mg per kg for 7 days) and group B (5 mg per kg for 7 days) children showed 100% of negative conversion, but group C (10 mg per kg for 5 days) children revealed 84.6% of negatives. 3) 6 months later, the negative conversion rates in groups A, B and C were reduced to 54.5%, 57. 1% and 50. 0% respectively. 4) Mild or transient side effects-nausea, abdominal pain, headache or fever and diarrhea were noted in 16 cases (27. 1%) out of 59 cases.

Pyrantel Pamoate(Combantrin)에 依한 蛔蟲症의 減量療法

The mass treatment trial with low dosage of pyrantel pamoate against Ascaris lumbricoides infection was conducted to school children in rural areas of Korea. A comparative trial in the use of piperazine salt, santonin-kainic acid complex in the treatment of ascariasis was also attempted to evaluate the efficacy of' pyrantel pamoate. A total of 804 Ascaris infected school children selected out of 822-positives, who were screened from the total 1, 699 collected specimens, were classified into 7 groups. One of the three kinds of anthelmintics, i.e., pyrantel pamoate, piperazine adipate and santonin-kainic acid complex was administered to each group according to the planned regimen. For the evaluation, the egg negative conversion rate(cure rate) and egg reduction rate were calculated 4 weeks after treatment on 623 follow-up cases with the obtained results from the stool examinations (Cellophane Thick Smear Method and Stoll's Egg Counting Technique). The results obtained were; 1. The egg negative conversion rate was the highest in pyrantel treated groups (Group 1, 2, 3), santonin-kainic acid complex treated group (Group 7) coming next, and the lowest in piperazine treated groups (Group 4, 5, 6). 2. The reduction rates were also obtained just as the same order of the above results. 3. Among the pyrantel pamoate treated groups, the low dosage groups (Group 2 8: 3) showed 90.6% and 85.7% of negative conversion rate, and 99. 2% and 98. 2% of reduction rate respectively, while 94.1% of negative conversion rate and 97.9% of reduction rate were obtained in the conventional dosage group (Group 1). 4. On the analysis of efficacy in the groups treated with piperazine adipate, the best results were. shown in 2 or 3 consecutively treated groups (Group 4 &.- 6) under the supervision of qualified doctors, and the worst was in the group treated with 2 consecutive administration by teachers without supervision (Group 5). 5. The side reactions were so negligible in all the trial groups that none of the treated cases complained about the known side effect of those anthelmintics. From the present study, it can be suggested that the pyrantel pamoate is the most effective among three drugs, and also be recommended to apply the low dosage schedule of pyrantel pamoate in the masstreatment of ascariasis to reduce the expense of masstreatment.

尋常性좌창(Acne Vulgaris)에 對한 Vibramycin의 臨床的效果

尋常性?瘡이 顔面에 甚한 女高生 40名을 double-blind試驗에 依하여 Vibramycin(Vibramyin 100mg을 1日 1回 經口的으로 投與)을 投與하여 다음의 結果를 얻었다. 1) Vibramycin 4週間 投與하였을 때 治癒率 은 80.0%이고 placebo를 投與時는 29.3%를 나타내었다. 그리고 治療效果는 投藥 3週에 顯著이 나타나기 始作하였다. 2) 投藥中止後 3週에는 治癒率이 Vibramycin 投藥群에서 減少를 보였으며 2名은 再發되었다. 3) 投藥 4週동안 治療效果가 不充分한 患者에게 3週間 더 延長하였을 때는 더욱 顯著한 效果를 볼 수 있었다. Forty high school girls with acne vulgaris were included in a double-blind trial to assess the tLapeu tic effect of Vibramycin (100 mg Vibramycin capsule, orally, once daily). The results, assessed clinically are as follows; 1. When Vibramycin was administered for 4 weeks, the cure rate showed 80. 0% and in the case of placebo, 29.3%, and the effectiveness was significantly appeared at 3 weeks of treatment. 2. In follow-up study, at 3 weeks after cessation of Vibramycin treatment, the cure rate decreased in Vibramycin group, and especially, in two girls, rashes like as inflammatory papules and pustules was reappeared. 3. When Vibramycin was administered another 3 weeks in addition, to those whom the effectiveness was insufficient in spite of 4 week-treatment, it had showed significantly beneficial effect.
