IgE-mediated sensitization to natural rubber latex can induce immediate hypersensitivity reactions ranging from contact urticaria to life threatening anaphylaxis. Recent reports suggest that asthma is also relatively frequent manifestation of latex allergy. In this case report, lat,ex induced asthma is described in an operat.ing room nurse regularly exposed t,o latex gloves. Her latex sensitivity was detected by skin prick testing. Specific bronchial provocation test with latex extract showed an early asthmatic reaction. Her symptoms had been much improved after avoidance. Occupational asthma induced by latex may be not uncommon among health care workers.

N/A Background: The value of the induced sputum examination in chronic cough has not been determined. We performed this study to investigate the relationship between eosinophil percentage on induced sputum and bronchial responsiveness to methacholine or capsaicin, and responses to anti-asthmatic treatment in chronic cough patients. Subjects and Methods Forty-seven patients with chronic cough persisting for more than 1 month without current wheezing or dyspnea were studied. According to the eosinophil percentage on induced sputum, the subjects were divided into two groups group A (sputum eosinophil ≥ 3%) and group B (sputum eosinophil < 3%). Methacholine bronchial provocation test (MBPT) and capsaicin challenge, and responses to anti-asthmatic treatment were compared between the two groups. Results : Group A consisted of 26 subjects and group B consisted of 21 subjects. There were no differences in sex, clinical characteristics of cough, atopy prevalence, and peripheral eosinophil counts except serum IgE level between the two groups. MBPT positivity was much higher in group A than group B (46.2% vs 0%, p<0.001), but there was no difference in capsaicin test positivity(44.0% vs 50.0%). Group A showed much higher response rates to anti-asthmatic treatments than in group B (73.1/o vs 19.09o, p(0,001). Conclusion : Eosinophilic airway inflammation in chronic cough was related to methacholine bronchial hyperresponsiveness, but not to capsaicin cough threshold. Induced sputum eosinophil percentage was a good indicator in predicting the response to anti-asthmatic treatment in most chronic cough patients. (J Asthma Allergy Clin Immunol 20: 895-905, 2000)

The main goal of asthma treatment is an adequate control of symptoms and a reduction in future exacerbations. To achieve the goal, international guidelines recommend daily use of controllers, such as inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs), even in patients with mild asthma. However, poor adherence is an unavoidable issue in the management of mild asthma. In addition, there is concern about possible adverse reactions and economic burden by unnecessary treatment. Recently, several studies have shown that as-needed use of ICSs has similar effects as regular use of ICSs on the prevention of acute asthmatic exacerbations. However, daily regular use of ICSs seems to be superior in terms of symptom-free days or airway inflammation suppression. Further studies are needed to determine whether symptom-driven use of ICSs can be an effective strategy for the management of mild asthma. Also, it is necessary to develop proper methods that can predict mild asthmatics who experience frequent exacerbations if they stop regular ICSs. (Allergy Asthma Respir Dis 2014;2:153-156)

In this study, basic research was carried out to improve the absorption rate which is a problem in increasing the recycling rate of recycled fine aggregate and to improve the usability as concrete aggregate. It was confirmed that the absorption rate of the recycled aggregate measured after immersing in the microbial culture solution for the purpose of improving the absorption rate of the circulating fine aggregate for concrete was decreased. However, further studies such as improvement of microbial culture are required to satisfy KS standards.

In this study, the crack healing performance of concrete containing microbial - based self - healing agent for the purpose of crack crack healing was evaluated by the permeability test. As a result of the addition of the microbial culture solution to the mixed water at an alternative ratio, the permeability recovery rate increases as the substitution rate increases. It is necessary to develop a microbial concentrate and to study the application of mixed microorganisms for the purpose of increasing the rate of permeability recovery and decreasing the substitution rate of microbial solution.
기능성 첨가재를 적용한 급경사면용 녹생토의 경도 및 리바운드 특성

본 연구에서는 급경사면서의 식생기반재 부착 및 녹화성능 확보를 위해 혼입한 기능성 첨가재의 성능 평가를 수행하였다. 기능성 첨가재의 혼입조건에 따른 평가 결과, 급경사면의 부착이 가능하면서 식물의 생육에 원활히 수분 공급을 위한 기능성 첨가재로서 증점제 및 고흡수성 폴리머의 적정 혼입율은 각각 5%, 1% 인 것으로 판단된다. 시멘트 계열의 경화재로 인하여 높아진 pH에 대한 대책으로서 킬레이트 수지 10% 이상 혼입시 pH가 약알칼리에서 중성으로 회복되었다. 토양 전도도 평가 결과, 모든 배합조건에서 254~340mS/m으로 측정되어 기준인 1,000mS/m이하인 기준을 만족하였다. 기능성 첨가재의 최적 배합조건으로 도로비탈면 녹화공사의 설계 및 시공 지침에서 제시하는 경도를 측정한 결과 1bar의 압력으로 시공할 때, 18~23mm의 기준을 만족하였다. 급경사면에 대한 부착강도 평가를 위해 경사면 각도조건에 따라 분사 후 리바운드량과 산중식 경도계를 이용한 경도를 측정한 결과, 75도 각도에서도 리바운드율 15%미만, 경도 18mm이상의 성능 확보가 가능하였다. In this study, the improved performance of sprayed green soil was evaluated by incorporating functional additives. The optimal mixing ratio of the thickener and super-absorbent polymer, as an additive for moisture supply to the growth of plants within the range of mixing ratios that gives sufficient strength of green soil, was 5% and 1%, respectively. Using Portland cement as a main binder, the pH of the green soil was 9.1. To solve this alkali problem, the mixing proportion was improved so that the pH of the green soil was approximately 7.2 by mixing more than 10% of the chelate resin. The soil conductivity was measured to be 280 ~ 350mS/m under all the mixing conditions. This satisfied the criterion of less than 1000mS/m on the slope surface. As a result of measuring the soil hardness of the green soil prepared under the optimal mixing conditions of functional additives, it satisfied the criteria of 18 ~ 23mm when sprayed under a 1 bar pressure. The rebound rate was less than 15% when spraying green soil on a 75 % slope, and the hardness of the sprayed green soil was more than 18 mm.
미국의 2018년 중간선거와 라티노 투표: 다양성과 변화

2018년 11월에 실시된 미국의 중간선거는 트럼프 행정부의 중간평가라는 의미를 가지고 있다. 트럼프 행정부의 이민정책은 미국의 라티노들에게 많은 영향을 미치고 있다. 많은 미디어에서 중간선거에서 라티노의 투표율이 증가할 것이며, 민주당후보들의 당선에 커다란 영향을 미칠 것이라고 예측했다. 본 논문의 목적은 라티노의 인구학적 특성, 지리적 인구분포 및 라티노 여론 등에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 중간선거에서 나타난 라티노의 투표행태를 살펴보는 것이다. 현재까지의 제한된 데이터를 분석한 결과 2014년 중간선거와 비교하여 대부분의 선거구에서 라티노의 투표율은 실제로 급격한 상승폭을 보였으며, 이는 민주당후보에 대한 지지로 나타났다. 이러한 현상은 라티노 인구비가 높은 지역에서 더욱 두드러지게 나타났다. The 2018 midterm elections were considered a referendum for Trump Presidency, especially because Latino community has been feeling that the anti-immigration, anti-Latino policies of Trump administration are harmful to the community. News Media and pundits predicted the boost of the Latino turnout and its positive effects on Democratic candidates at all levels. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of Latino demographics and Latino public opinion and to analyze the election results with exit poll data and actual aggregate data. The data analysis shows that, compared to 2014 midterm elections, Latino turnout and the support for Democratic candidates actually increased in most counties and precincts, which is more salient in the areas with heavy Latino concentration.

Phase change material (PCM) has been developed and applied in various fields as construction material. If the application of PCM as the semi-rigid pavement cement grout becomes available, it would be possible to control the occurrence of a micro crack due to the generation of hydration heat in the ultra rapid harding cement, and if the occurrence of a micro crack is reduced, it would be possible to improve the cohesion performance between asphalt matrix and grout as well as to compact the matrix of the pavement material, improving the durability Therefore, the applicability review of PCM for the purpose of improving the semi-rigid pavement materials through the shrink reduction of ultra rapid harding cement used as the semi-rigid pavement cement grout was carried out in this study.

본 연구에서는 친환경 고분자계 약액을 이용하여, pH변화가 비교적 낮은 친환경 고분자계 그라우트 특성을 검토하여 기존공법과의 비교 검토하였다. 평가결과, 물유리계 그라우트의 경우, 침지 3일 이후 pH가 11이상으로 증가되었으며 어체의 개체수도 감소되어 침지 6일에 모든 어류가 죽는 결과를 나타내었다. 고분자계 그라우트의 경우 pH 증가는 최대 10.35까지 였고 이후 감소되는 경향을 나타내었으며, 어류 개체수도 유지되는 것으로 확인되어 생태계에 미치는 영향이 없는 것으로 확인되었다.
