In this study, we investigate a laser welding jig of butt joint and propose a new type Jig using air suction and blowing(patent pending). When making butt joints in plate materials, some form of pusher clamping to compress is essential to close to the welding line. One of advantages of the new jig is free from space of installation such ‘as seam tracking sensor, on-line process monitoring sensor and etc.<br/> <br/>

Continuous wave C $O_{2}$ laser beam welding and formability of zinc coated steel plates were investigated. First, the optimal welding condition could be obtained in lap configuration by using the data for heat input, gap size and fracture behaviour. The gap size for fully-penetrated bead could be predicted by the gap model by Akhter et al. AIso, it was found that the joining efficiency was constant. Secondly, the butt welding of dissimilar materials (zinc coated steel plate and cold rolled steel plate) with different thicknesses was investigated. In the thickness range of 0.8-2.0 mm, the maximum welding speed of 10m/min was obtained. In the butt welding of two plates with thickness 2.0 mm and l.6mm, the maximum, welding speed of 6m/min was obtained, Finally. the forming results of butt-welded plates showed that the joining design was important to apply the laser welded blank in the automotive production.

A method for predicting the salt water exclusion process or the time-varying salinity in an estuarine reservoir system is presented, which may be a powerful tool when the reservoir flow is well mixed and predominently one-dimentional. The method that views the reservoir as a one-dimentionally distributed system is a great improvement over the one based upon the salt balance equation for a lumped system. Coupling the open channel flow equations with the convection-dispersion equation, the flow of water and the transport of water density are simultaneously analyzed in terms of the interaction between water movement and density. The quasilinealized basic equations to be solved are cast into numerical versions by use of the finite element method and the implicit time integration scheme to build a versatile and tough model for salinity and flow prediction. Inclusion of time-dependent local injection of withdrawal of water and salt in the model is done by boundary and lateral flow treatments. The method presented in this paper is applied to the new Man-Keum estuarine reservoir in Korea, now under construction. The result of 5 year consecutive analysis after the construction of the polder dikes shows that the predicted salinity is allowable for irrigation at the sites of pumping stations located far downstream of the two main rivers, Man-Kyeong and Dong-Jin.
