Instead of pipework-based material transportation in conventional hatch processes, the pipeless process, a new type of conventional batch process, adopts vessel-based one, where materials are transported by movable vessels traveling among process units called stations. This paper deals with an optimal design problem of pipeless processes considering the structural aspects of the plant and the associated production schedules simultaneously. The proposed MILP(Mixed integer Linear Programming) problem yields the optimal design solution accounting for capital costs, operating costs and revenues. And a relatively small number of integer variables in the MILP problem makes it applicable to practical processes composed of numerous units producing various products of general recipes. By the concepts of waiting task and waiting cost, the number of waiting stations required can be calculated, and waitings of materials in unstable states can be excluded from the schedule. The usefulness of the approach has been verified through an example.

Xanthogranuloma is one of non-Langerhans cell histocytic disorders. And adult-onset huge xanthogranuloma of the external auditory canal is very rarely reported, especially on this anatomical site. We introduce a case of adult-onset huge xanthogranuloma of the external auditory canal. An 32-year-old female presented with intermittent left bloody otorrhea for two months. Radiological studies showed a solitary mass on the posterior wall of external auditory canal that had no invasion or erosion of temporal bone. The mass that originated from the posterior wall of the external auditory canal was excised and the defect site was reconstructed with ipsilateral superficial temporalis fascia. Pathologically, this huge mass was diagnosed as xanthogranuloma. We report this case as a very rare case of adult-onset xanthogranuloma in the external auditory canal as well as its excellent long-term result of surgery with the review of the literatures.

Sustainable industrial development which can minimize an ecological effect by the mankind exertion is recently interested due to an environmental contamination and a resource exhaustion problem. An eco-industrial park (EIP) is a community of manufacturing and service businesses seeking enhanced environmental and economic performance through collaboration in managing environmental and resource issues, including energy, water, and materials. EIP developments which improve a production plant within an eco-friendly greenfield and design a new industrial ecosystem are accomplished recently, which can efficiently re-use the waste and resources from each company within EIP. In this review, the outside and domestic case studies of EIP and cornerstone technologies to develop the EIP, such as energy integration, waste reuse, mass flow analysis, water pinch, and life cycle assessment, are summarized.
폐타이어 건류 소각에서 발생되는 재와 배기 가스에서의 독성 오염 물질의 정량

본 논문에서는 해마다 수 십만 개씩 발생되는 폐타이어의 열적 처리 방법인 건류 소각 처리 방법에서 발생되는 이차 오염 물질을 정량하여 폐타이어의 안전한 최종 처리 방법까지 고찰하였다. 건류-소각처리 방법에서 발생되는 배기 가스에서 이차 독성 오염 물질을 화학 평형 모델을 응용하여 예측하였고 실질적인 잔류 물질인 건류재와 소각재에서 유기성 독성 물질과 중금속을 정량하였다. 건류재에서는 폐타이어의 불완전 연소에 따른 유기성 이차 오염 물질이 다량 포함되어 있는 반면에 소각재에서는 납과 카드뮴과 같은 중금속 화합물의 함량이 높았다. 건류재 및 소각재의 안전한 최종 매립을 위하여는 서로 다른 전처리 방법이 요구된다. The problem of disposing of huge quantities of used tires is of growing concern to every country. As an economical solid waste management, a gasification followed by incineration process was applied to scrap tires to recover heat and to reduce waste volume for final landfill disposal. The gasification temperature, combustible and non-combustible gasified products and possibly produced air pollutants were predicted by changing equivalent mole ratios of carbon to oxygen by a chemical equilibrium model. For a risk assessment of ash toxic pollutants including heavy metals and toxic organics were thoroughly analyzed. Gasification bottom ash contained much more toxic organic compounds than fly ash, whereas fly ash contained higher concentration of heavy metals such as Pb and Cd. Pretreatment or secure landfill technology is suggested for a safe management of ash produced from the gasification incinerators.

In this paper, we present a model of an optimal retrofitting design for multisite batch plants in case there are new warehouses to supply and increase of demands at existing warehouses. In the optimal retrofitting design problem, an objective function is defined as a net profit in a chemical company-total expected selling price minus the cost of new equipments and the expected shipping cost. We determine a revised plant configuration, sizes and operating modes of newly added equipments, new shipments from plant to warehouse and batch processing variables. A mixed integer nonlinear programming(MINLP) formulation is proposed. The effectiveness of its application is illustrated with two examples. The examples are solved with GAMS/DICOPT+++.
후두 편평상피암종의 림프절 피막외 침범에 대한 FDG PET/CT 영상의 유용성

Backgrounds:To evaluated the use of FDG PET/CT for the identification of extracapsular spread(ECS) with histologic correlation in laryngeal cancer. Methods:We reviewed 79 medical records of patients who under-went of FDG PET/CT for laryngeal cancer before surgery. Results:ECS was present in 41.9%(18/43) dis-sected necks and in 34.5%(20/58) dissected cervical levels. There was a significant difference in the SUVmax between cervical lymph nodes with ECS and without ECS(6.39±4.53 vs. 1.19±1.64, p<0.001). The cut-off value for the SUVmax for differentiating with ECS from without ECS was 2.8 with the sensitivity of 85.7% and the specificity of 85.6%. Conclusion:The median SUVmax cut-off values of FDG PET/CT higher than 2.8 was associated with greater risk cervical lymph node metastasis with ECS in patients with laryngeal cancer.
