The electroplating waste has emerged as one of the serious problems in Korea because the heavy metals in wastewater and sludge currently endanger the drinking water quality. To enhance the wastewater treatment efficiency for scattered small-scale electroplating industries, the coprecipitation process as an innovative technology has been studied. And, for the economical point of view, its efficiency is quantified using a model for the design optimization of wastewater treatment process considering both atmospheric interference and sludge generation. Finally, the capital and O/M costs are estimated for actual field operation of coprecipitation process.
