Two kinds of gangliosides contained in deer horns were determined by integrating the peaks of TLC densitometry. Japanese deer horn originated from China showed the highest gangliosides among tested samples and the upper parts in deer horns showed higher gangliosides than the lower parts. In the case of graded samples, the best grade A showed the highest content and the worst grade E did the lowest content. Sixteen kinds of free amino acids were analyzed by auto amino acid analyzer. The lower region the deer horn was, the more the total content of free amino acids was and several kinds of amino acids were contained quite regularly.

A method for isolation and quantitative determination of patchouli alcohol from Pogostemonis Herba (Pogostemon cablin) has been developed. Isolation of patchouli alcohol was achieved by column chromatography employing the normal-phase gradient separation system n-hexane-ether on silica gel column. The GC method for quantitative determination of patchouli alcohol provided a method for standardization of the raw drug. It suggested that the average content of patchouli alcohol in Pogostemonis Herba is about 0.26%.

In order to investigate the reducing effect of velvet antler water extract (VAWE) on the toxicity of anti-cancer drug, cis-platin (CDDP) and mitomycin C (MMC), we examined effects of co-administration with VAWE and anti-cancer drugs on their toxicities. We recognized that $LD_{50}$ of CDDP/MMC were increased by co-administration with VAWE and them in mice. It was found that co-administration of VAWE and MMC increased the survival rate in mice treated by lethal dose of MMC. Also, co-administration of VAWE and CDDP/MMC inhibited decrease of the body weight and organ weight in mice intoxificated by CDDP/MMC. The increase of serum blood urea and serum creatinine levels in rats intoxicated by CDDP were significantly inhibited by the co-administrationin with VAWE and CDDP. The decrease of RBC and WBC in rats intoxificated by MMC were significantly inhibited by the co-administration with VAWE and MMC. These results suggest that the combined usage of VAWE and CDDP/MMC drugs may be a new method for prevented or minimized the toxicity of them.
한국 생약 규격에 관한 연구 : 글리실리진 자원생약에 대하여

감초는 명의별록에서 국노(國老)로 표시하였고, 도홍경은 처방중 넣지 않는 처방이 적을 정도라고 표현함과 방약합편에서만도 총 467개 처방중 감초가 290개 처방에 수록되었고, 감초는 타약물과 잘 조화되여 해독, 교미제, 거담제 항염증, 항궤양증 등 그 작용도 다양하여 현대 의약계의 연구 대상이 되고 있는 실정이며 감초의 원식물은 콩과(Leguminosae)의 다년초로 1) Glycyrrhiza glabra L. (아세아, 중국서부) 2) Glycyrrhiza glabra L.var. glandulifera. Regel et Hooker. (유럽, 벨지움, 시베리아분포, 최상품) 3) Glycyrrhiza echinata L. (중국자생, 직근무) 4) Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fischer et De Candolle (시베리아, 몽고, 중국동북부, 복주감초) 등으로 알려져 있고 화학성분으로는 1) Triterpenoid; Glycyrrhizin (Glycyrrhetic acid) 2) Flavonoid; Liquiritin 3) Coumarin; 7-Methoxycoumarin, umbelliferone = 7-hydroxycoumarin. 4) Aminoacid; N- (1-deoxy-D-fructosyl) -L-proline, N- (1-deoxy-D-fructosyl)-L-alanine, N- (1-deoxy-D-fructosyl)-L-asparatic acid, choline, betaine, 등으로 연구 발표되었고, 본원에서는 감초의 감미성분 glycyrrhizin의 지역적인 함량 분포 조사를 하기 위해 경북 5개, 서울 5개 (수입품 포함) 복합제품 5개 등 15개의 시료를 채취하여 중량법 (KP III) 및 HLC법 등으로 성분함량 비교를 조사하였기에 보고한다.

For the quality control of Cassiae Semen, anthraquinone compound, aurantio-obtusin, was isolated from the MeOH extract of Cassiae Semen (Leguminosae) and identified by the spectroscopic analysis. A quantitative analysis of aurantio-obtusin using HPLC method showed that the average contents of aurantio-obtusin were $0.03{\pm}0.01%$ in 50 samples collected throughout the various regions of Korea.
