A new dammarane-type triterpenoid, betulafolianediol, $C_{30}$H$_{52}$O$_{3}$, mp $165^{\circ}$[${\alpha}$]$_D$^{20}=+$20^{\circ}$, was isolated form the unsaponifiable fraction of leves of Betula latifalia $K_{OMAROV}$ (Betulaceae). From the spectral data of the betulafolianediol and its derivatives, betulafolianediol monoacetate (II) and betulafolianediol monoketone, the structure of betulafolianediol was provide to be 3${\alpha}$, 25-dioxy-dammarane-20[S]->24 [S]-epoxide.

Ether extract of the fruits of Angelica gigas NAKAI(Umbelliferae) growing wild and cultivating in Korea, afforded frocoumarin derivative, imperatorin which was identified through physical constants-I.R.spectrum, paper partition chromatography, and preparation of derivatives.

The rhizome of Polygonum sachalinense Fr. Schm. (=Reynoutria sachalinensis Nakai, Polygonaceae) has been used as "Polygoni Rhizoma" (Hu Zhang) in the Orient as laxatives, diuretics and for treatment of suppurative dermatitis, gonorrhoea, favus and athlete's foot. From the methanolic extract of the dried rhizome physcion, emodin, emodin-8-O-$\beta$-D-glucoside as anthraquinone derivatives and .betha.-sitosterol glucoside were isolated and identified. Stilbene derivatives which have antibacterial and antifungal activities were also isolated.
Angelica gigas Nakai 成分의 藥理學的硏究

Two crystals were obtained from ether extract and saponificated Ether extract of root of Angelica gigas Nakai commonly called "TANG-GUI" in Korea. One crystal (m.p. 110-111℃) which was suggested as coumarine derivative was separated from ether extract of dried root. (Substance A) The other crystal (M.p. 178℃-180℃) which showed furo-coumarine reaction was separated from the saponificated ether extract. (Substance B) The general pharmacological effects of crystal (Substance A) and etherextract (Extract A) were studied and compared, and the following conclusions were obtained: LT50 of Subtance A is 382㎎/㎏., when given to mouse intraperitonially. Motility of excised intestine and uterus of rabbit was augmented by the treatment of Substance A, while Ertract A is inhibitory in same cocentration. Blood pressure of rabbit was elavated by Subtance A and A Extract Extract A stimulated the respiration of rabbit, but Substance A did not show any effect on respiration.
