Differential diagnosis of the malignant lesion and the benign lesion is critically important for the precise treatment. A clinician should diagnose in a comprehensive manner considering clinical, radiological, and histopathological perspectives. The lesion in the oral cavity in this study was clinically and radiologically malignant. However, the lesion was histopathologically benign. Surgical intervention was not performed except biopsy. The lesion improved after about one month of supportive medication after the biopsy. The importance of decision making process was emphasized in this report.
Bee Venom이 NF-${\kappa}B$의 불활성화에 의한 세포자멸사를 통해 PC-3 세포의 증식에 미치는 영향

목적 : 이 연구는 봉약침의 봉독과 그 주요성분인 멜리틴이 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성억제와 세포자멸사 관련 단백질의 발현 조절을 통하여 세포자멸사를 유도함으로써 전립선 암세포주인 PC-3 세포의 성장을 억제하는지를 확인하고 해당 기전을 살펴보고자 하였다. 방법 : 봉독이나 멜리틴을 처리한 후 PC-3의 성장억제를 관찰하기 위해 WST-1 assay, CCK-8 assay를 시행하였고, 세포자멸사 조절단백질의 변동 관찰에는 western blot analysis를 시행하였고, 세포자멸사와 연관된 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성 변화를 관찰하기 위해 EMSA를 시행하였으며, PC-3에서 봉독이나 멜리틴과 NF-${\kappa}B$의 상호작용을 관찰하기 위해 transient transfection assay를 시행하여 세포생존율과 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성 변동을 측정하였다. 결과 : PC-3 세포에 봉독이나 멜리틴을 처리한 후, 전립선암세포의 성장, 세포자멸사의 유발, 세포자멸사 관련 단백질의 발현, NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성, NF-${\kappa}B$의 p50, $IKK{\alpha}$, $IKK{\beta}$ 치환 후 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성과 PC-3 세포 증식에 미치는 영향을 관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. PC-3 세포에서 봉독이나 멜리틴을 처리한 후 세포자멸사가 유도되어 세포성장이 억제되었고, 세포자멸사 관련 단백질 중 분리된 PARP, caspase-3, -9는 유의한 증가를, Bcl-2, XIAP, cXIAP2는 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. 2. PC-3 세포에서 봉독이나 멜리틴을 처리한 후 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성은 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. 3. PC-3 세포에서 NF-${\kappa}B$의 p50, $IKK{\alpha}$, $IKK{\beta}$를 치환하여 작용기를 없애고 봉독이나 멜리틴을 처리하였을 경우에도 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성이 유의한 감소를 나타내었다. 결론 : 이상의 결과는 봉독이나 멜리틴이 NF-${\kappa}B$의 활성 억제를 통하여 인간 전립선암세포주인 PC-3의 세포자멸사를 유발함으로써 증식억제 효과가 있음을 입증한 것으로, 전립선암의 예방과 치료에 대한 효과적인 치료제 개발에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.
지반-구조물-설비 상호작용을 고려한 지진응답 특성에 관한 해석적 연구

Non-structural elements, such as equipment, are typically affixed to a building’s floor or ceiling and move in tandem with the structure during an earthquake. Seismic forces acting upon non-structural elements traverse the ground and the building’s structure. Considering this seismic load transmission mechanism, it becomes imperative to account for the interactions between soil, structure, and equipment, establishing seismic design procedures accordingly. In this study, a Soil-Structure-Equipment Interaction (SSEI) model is developed. Through seismic response analysis using this model, how the presence or absence of SSEI impacts equipment behavior is examined. Neglecting the SSEI aspect when assessing equipment responses results in an overly conservative evaluation of its seismic response. This emphasizes the necessity of proposing an analytical model and design methodology that adequately incorporate the interaction effect. Doing so enables the calculation of rational seismic forces and facilitates the seismic design of non-structural elements.

Objectives : This study was to investigate the effectiveness of cupping therapy on peripheral facial paralysis. Methods : We investigated 39 cases of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, and devided patients into two groups : We treated one group by complex oriental medical treatment with cupping therapy, and did the other group by complex oriental medical treatment without cupping therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment applied for two groups, we used gross grading system of House-Brackmann(HB score), Yanagihara's unweighed grading system(Y score) at baseline and final. Results : 1. In cupping group and non-cupping group, compared with baseline, at final, HB score was significantly decreased and Y score was significantly increased. 2. At final, cupping group showed significant decrease on HB score and significant increase on Y score compared with non-cupping group. Conclusions : Cupping therapy can be available for relieving symptoms related with peripheral facial paralysis.

Purpose: To analyze the amount and pattern of tooth movement and the changes in arch dimension of mandibulardentition after orthodontic treatment using a new three-dimensional (3D)-indirect superimposition method. Materials and Methods: The samples consisted of fifteen adult patients with class I bialveolar protrusion andminimal anterior crowding, treated by extraction of four first premolars with conventional sliding mechanics. After superimposition of 3D-virtual maxillary models before and after treatment using best-fit method, 3D-virtualmandibular model at each stage was placed into a common coordinate of superimposition using 3D-bite information,which resulted in 3D-indirect superimposition for mandibular dentition. The changes in mandibular dental and archdimensional variables were measured with Rapidform 2006 (INUS Technology). Paired t-test was used for statisticalanalysis. Result: The anterior teeth moved backward, displaced laterally, and inclined lingually. The posterior teeth showedstatistically significant contraction toward midsagittal plane. The amounts of backward movement of anterior teethand forward movement of posterior teeth showed a ratio of 6 : 1. Although the inter-canine width increased slightly(0.8 mm, P<0.05), the inter-second premolar, inter-first molar, and inter-second molar widths decreased significantlywith similar amounts (2.2 mm, P<0.05; 2.3 mm, P<0.01; 2.3 mm, P<0.001). The molar depth decreased (6.7 mm,P<0.001) but canine depth did not change. Conclusion: A new 3D-indirect superimposition of the mandibular dentitions using best-fit method and 3D-biteinformation can present a guideline for virtual treatment planning in terms of tooth position and arch dimension.
