Induction heating technique is an alternative method method to have straight pipes bent compared to traditional hot bending techniques. This bending technique uses localized heating from the high frequency induction band resulting in well-formed bend section. In this study, current codes and standards as well as design requirements of the newest NPPs over the world were analyzed to apply this technique to the safety related piping in NPPs in Korea. Designs of safety related systems and piping materials were examined for the compatibility of bending pipes replaced traditional elbows in the newest NPP. The required items of material properties and qualities in bent pipes were drawn reflecting anticipated regulatory requirements in the view of long term aging processes as well as current mandatories in codes and standards. Experiments have been performed to confirm whether the bent pipes conform to the materials properties and qualities deduced from the analyses. Some results of these tests are presented in this paper.
