Modern enterprises often place more employees in a smaller area in order to reduce costs. Also, due to the development of office equipment, there are a lot of items which increase noise, such as telephones, video conference facilities, computers, etc. As environmental conditions of offices have become the most fundamental and important issues to improve work efficiency and productivity, this study aims to find out the present state of speech privacy in open plan offices taking an actual measurement and determines how to improve speech privacy using the acoustic simulation software EASE. The target office is realized in the simulation, and four factors are changed: ceiling material, height of partitions, floor material and masking noise. Therefore, it finds out that the most effective way among architectural influential factors is using a high-absorption ceiling material. Also, the method of using a masking noise is one of the effective ways, but it makes employees so annoyed that it is important to consider it only if it does not make them uncomfortable.

The purpose of this work is to investigate and analyze the influence of traffic volume and vehicle speed on the sound level (the equivalent continuos A-weighted sound pressure level) at a roadside. Six roads with various types such as urban freeway national highway urban road and expressway were selected for measurements. The traffic conditions of domestic vehicles and the traffic noise were measured simultaneously by using the Smart-sensor with built-in dual radars and the precision sound level meters respectively. 2,580 raw data including the traffic conditions and the sound level were collected. On the basis of these data not only the characteristics of each traffic condition but the relationships between each traffic condition and the sound level were analyzed in detail. The result showed that the growth in sound level was considerable with increasing the traffic volumes in range of less than about 2,000 veh/hr. In addition as the vehicle speed is closely related to the traffic volume the sound level was affected by both traffic conditions at the same time.

Ground vibration at Gil-dong in Seoul induced by the 5th line of Seoul Subway is predicted using various prediction methods and compared with measured vibration. Also, several issues on the improvement of prediction methods are discussed. Furthermore, as an alternative vibration source, measured vibration acceleration level(VAL) on the tunnel wall of the Bundang line of Seoul Subway is applied to the prediction of the VAL at the location mentioned previously. Then requirements accompanied to the suggestion of the new vibration source appropriate to the condition of Seoul Subway.
