        Simplified V-Shape Incision Technique for Saving Hair Follicles

        Background The scalp is the second most visible part of the anatomy next to the face. Thus, aesthetic considerations such as scars and alopecia are important when planning excision of a mass from the scalp. Aesthetic results have not been satisfactory due to scar widening and hair follicle injury. Many methods have been tried to improve these results, however, they require multiple procedures and longer operation time. Methods We evaluated a easy and time-saving V-shape incision for excising a scalp mass. This technique of simplified V-shape incision was performed in 32 patients with benign scalp masses treated from September 2011 to March 2013. The incisions were performed with a blade to make a V-shape margin and preserve deep hair follicles at the flap margins. The defect was closed by approximation of two edges. Results All tumors were benign and superficial. The size of the scalp masses was 0.4–2.0 cm in width and 1.0–5.0 cm in length. Many hairs from the deep hair follicles grew into the scar, making the scar line almost unnoticeable in all 32 patients. Although some scar widening was evident, the number of hairs per unit was high enough to camouflage the scars. Conclusions The simplified V-shape incision was beneficial as a simple, mini-surgical, time-saving procedure. Although the scars were slightly wider, they were covered with penetrating hairs and became unnoticeable.

        RENO 실험에서 아크릴의 광학적 특성 연구

        In this paper, we describe the measurement of the various optical parameters of acrylic used in the RENO experiment. The refractive index of acrylic is measured by using the minimum deviation technique. The absorbance is measured by using an UV/Vis spectrometer; then, the attenuation length is calculated from the absorbency by using the Beer-Lambert empirical equation. The optical parameters of the layers should be similar to keep the optical properties in each layer of RENO detector the same. We select acrylic as a material for the liquid scintillator container, because it has a good transmittance in the wavelength range of 400 nm ~ 430 nm and does not react with liquid-scintillating solvents inside the detector. RENO 실험의 액체섬광검출기에 사용하는 아크릴에 대한 여러 가지 광학적특성을 조사하였다. 굴절률은 프리즘 분광기를 사용하여 최소편향기법을통해 구했으며, 흡광도는 분광광도계를 이용하여 파장을 달리하면서측정하였다. 감쇄거리는 측정된 흡광도 값으로부터 Beer-Lambert 식에의해 계산하였다. RENO 검출기가 일정한 광학적 성질을 유지하기 위해검출기의 각 영역에서 측정한 물리 광학적 변수들의 성질은 급격히변하지 않아야 한다. 그리하여 실험에서 매우 중요하고 필요한 400 nm ~ 430 nm 파장대의 빛에 대한 투과율이 좋고 표면이액체섬광검출용액과 반응을 하지 않는 아크릴을 선택하였다.

        RENO 실험에서 선형알킬벤젠 기반 액체섬광검출용액의 광학적 특성 연구

        The RENO (Reactor Experiment for Neutrino Oscillation) experiment is designed to measure the unknown neutrino mixing angle parameter Θ_(13) by using anti-neutrinos emitted from the Yonggwang nuclear power plant in Korea. The reactor anti-neutrinos are detected through the IBD (Inverse Beta Decay) process followed by neutron capture. The prompt positron annihilates and yields an ~1 MeV visible energy. After a few μsec, an ~8 MeV delayed neutron signal captured by gadolinium (Gd) is released. The RENO detector consists of four concentric cylindrical layers; from the inner to the outermost, the four layers are the target, the γ-catcher, the buffer and the veto. The target consists of an acrylic vessel holding the gadolinium-loaded liquid scintillator (GdLS). The target is surrounded by the γ-catcher, which is filled with the LS. The buffer contains MO (mineral oil). The veto is filled with pure water. If the wavelength, the concentration, and the absorption are to be optimized, having exact knowledge of the optical properties of the liquid scintillator is very important. Based on our measurements, we calculate the attenuation length, the scattering fraction, and the absorption probability. RENO (Reactor Experiment for Neutrino Oscillation) 실험은 영광원자력 발전소 부근의 원자로에서 나오는 중성미자를 검출하여 진동변환상수를 측정하는 실험이다. 원전 핵반응에서 방출된 중성미자가검출기내의 양성자 표적에 충돌해 양전자와 중성자가 생성되는 역베타붕괴 (IBD, Inverse Beta Decay) 과정을 이용한다. 여기서 양전자는전자와 쌍소멸 (pair annihilation)한 후 각에너지가 ~0.511 MeV가되는 2개의 감마선을 방출한다. 한편 중성자는 수 μsec정도진행하다가 가돌리늄 (Gd)에 의해 포획되어 ~8 MeV의 에너지를방출한다. 이 두 에너지의 시간차에 의해 중성미자를 재구성할 수 있어배경사건을 효과적으로 줄일 수 있다. 검출기는 원통형으로 이루어져있는데 안쪽에서 바깥쪽으로 target, γ-catcher, buffer, veto의4영역으로 나누어지고, Gd-LS (Gd-loaded Liquid Scintillator), LS (Liquid Scintillator), mineral oil, 3차 증류수가 각각 채워진다. 액체섬광검출용액은 RENO 실험에 맞게 파장, 농도, 흡광도 등을최적화해야 하기 때문에 이들 물질의 광학적 성질을 정확히 아는 것은매우 중요하며 이 결과를 이용하여 감쇄거리 (attenuation length),산란비율 (scattering fraction), 흡수 확률 (absorption probability)을구해보았다.

        플라톤 법률편에 나타난 체육내용 및 방법론에 관한 연구

        A Study on the contents and method of physical education in the Plato's Nomoi Yeo, In-Sung(Yonsei University) The Purpose of this study was to investigate Plato's view of soul and body view of ideological psychosomatic relation through arranging, criticizing his ideas about mind-body which we can recognize chiefly in his works such as 'Phaidon,' 'Republic,' and 'Nomoi.' At the same time, it is make clear his great influences and achievements modern physical education as well as that of his age. Althouhg Plato did not leave the logical stduy or 'Dialogue' about physical education, we can chiefly recognize his philosophical system which consists of plenty of fragmentary concepts current in his time through focussing on his psychosomatic relation and theory of training method. In contrast to the general concept that Plato was the mere philosoper of metaphisical dualism and treated the body as the inferior to the mind, he emphasized on the role of the body and its significance. In Sum, the induced results from this undergoing work are as follows. Firstly, according to the relationship between the idea and the thing, Plato compare the body to thing and the soul to the idea, therefore the body is highly estimated as the concept of space which preserve the soul and stepping-stone for the soul to recognize the idea. Secondly, As the essential result of these codncepts of ideological thought of the physical, Plato pursued the whole man who is harmonized and balanced within his mind and body. Thirdly, Plato regarded physical education as the basic method to achieve his ideal state which comprises all the people having harmonized nature. Fourthly, Plato insisted that physical education should be go along with the mental education and for the first time, Plato promoted firmly the position of that to one of two maintenances in the history of the world physical education. 국문초록플라톤의 생애 및 사상에 대한 문헌고찰을 통해 플라톤의 이데아론적 심신관을 중심으로 법률편(Nomoi)에 나타난 체육의 목적 및 내용을 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 플라톤의 영혼관과 신체관이 그 시대의 체육사상에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤으며 또한 오늘날 체육사상 및 내용에 대한 여러 중요한 함축성을 알아봄으로써 플라톤이 현대체육사상 및 내용에 이바지한 공헌에 대해 고찰하고자 함이 본 연구의 목적이다.우선, 이데아론적 신체관에 의하면 플라톤은 신체를 사물로 영혼을 이데아에 비유하므로써 정신만을 인간의 본질로써 높게 평가하고 신체는 무시하거나 배척한 것이 아니라 그는 신체를 영혼을 보호하는 공간개념으로서 또한 영혼이 이데아를 인식하는데 있어 신체를 그 디딤돌 역할로 보았으며 실체중에서 가장 중요한 것으로 생각하였다. 또한, 이상국가의 실현방안으로서 유능한 방위수호자와 민주시민의 양성을 위해 정신과 육체가 조화롭게 발달한 인간양성을 위해 체육의 가치와 역할을 강조하였다. 나아가 교육과 관련하여 플라톤은 완전한 인간형성을 위한 교육의 중요한 요소로서 정신교육과 함께 체육교육을 병행할 것을 주장하고 최초로 체육과목을 교육의 이대지주의 하나로서 설정하므로써 교육에서의 체육의 가치와 위상확립에 큰 기여를 하였다.

        Development of a Gadolinium-loaded LAB<sub>-</sub>based Aqueous Scintillator for Neutrino Detection

        A gadolinium (Gd) complex with carboxylic acid was synthesized by using a neutralization chemical reaction. Gd (0.5%) was doped into a liquid scintillator by using a solvent-solvent extraction under controlled pH. Linear alkyl benzene (LAB) was used as a scintillation solvent. We measured several important physical and optical properties. The preparation, the synthesis procedures and the characterization of the resulting gadolinium-loaded, LAB<sub>-</sub>based, liquid scintillator are described in this paper.

        RENO 실험에서 방사능 소스를 이용한 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션 환경 설정 연구

        The RENO (Reactor Experiment for Neutrino Oscillation) is using anti-neutrinos emitted from the Hanbit nuclear power plant. After installing the same detector at 1.3 km and 290 m from the reactor, we measure the neutrino oscillation parameter (θ13) by comparing the ratio of the numbers of measured neutrinos at the near and the far detectors. Data are taken from August 2011. In order to calibrate the energy of the detector, we use a ^{137}Cs radioactive isotope source on a regular basis. A Monte Carlo simulation is also performed to determine the energy resolution when using ^{137}Cs, ^{60}Co, and ^{68}Ge. RENO (Reactor Experiment for Neutrino Oscillation) 실험은 한빛 원자력 발전소의 원자로에서 방출되는 중성미자를 이용한다. 거리가 1.3 km와 290 m 떨어진 곳에 동일한 검출기를 설치한 후 두 곳의 검출기에서 측정된 중성미자의 양을 비교하여 중성미자의 진동 변환상수 (θ13)를 측정한다. 2011년 8월부터 데이터를 받기 시작하였다. 주기적으로 광전자의 에너지 이득 (gain)이 변화하는데 이를 보정해주기 위하여 방사능 소스 (^{137}Cs)를 사용하여 gain matching을 하였다. 또한 에너지 보정 (energy calibration)을 하기 위해 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션 (MC simulation) 환경 설정을 함으로써 에너지 분해능 (energy resolution)을 구할 수 있다. 여기서는 검출기 환경에 맞게 방사능 소스 (^{137}Cs, ^{60}Co, ^{68}Ge)를 이용하여 몬테카를로 시뮬레이션 환경 설정을 하였다.

        Study on Geant4 Simulation Toolkit Using a Low-Energy Physics Profiling System

        The Geant4 simulation toolkit needs to be optimized for central processing unit (CPU) time and memory size in order to be used for a high luminosity Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment. We have developed a low-energy physics profiling system and studied Geant4 with respect to both software and hardware. The results of profiling with Geant4 for low-energy physics were provided to the users and developers of the Geant4 simulation toolkit. In the case of the software, we performed profiling for dependence on different Geant4 versions and provided feedback to Geant4 developers. Profiling for dependence on the number of events showed their linear dependency. In the case of the hardware, we performed profiling for machine dependency on the KISTI-4 supercomputer. This action showed that machines were homogenous. The results obtained in this study will serve as a reference for Geant4 users.

        Researches on Dark Matter Using e+ e− Collider

        Higgs boson enables the Standard Model (SM) to be established. However, we do not know much about dark matter which occupies approximately six times of the SM particles in universe besides having mass. The interactions of dark matter is much weaker than that of the SM. Further, its mass range is very wide, from the order of eV to PeV. Therefore, many experiments have contributed to search for dark matter by indirect, direct and accelerator research. This paper reviews researches on dark matter using accelerator, especially the e+ e− collider, from the viewpoint of experimental high energy physicists.
