Chondroblastoma is an uncommon neoplasm in bone, occurring at the epiphysis or apophysis of growing long bones and is known to have a recurrence rate of around 10% after surgical treatment. We reviewed 14 patients of pathologically proven chondroblastoma, who were surgically treated, from December 1987 to August 1997. The location of tumors was proximal femur in 4 cases, distal femur in 4 cases, proximal tibia in 2 cases, patella in 1 case, proximal humerus in 1 case and calcaneus in 1 case. The most common complaint was pain. In all nine cases in which MRI was performed, the MR imaging showed a lobulated low signal intensity(SI) rim. Low SI foci within the tumor were present in 4 of 9 cases and corresponded to calcification seen on radiographs or CT. Bone marrow edema was also present in 4 of 9 cases on MR imaging. The average duration of follow-up was 2 years, 5 months, ranging from 1 year to 7 years, 2 months. Twelve patients were treated by curettage and autogenous bone graft, one by curettage only, and one by curettage and bone cementing. Two cases which showed local recurrence were treated with curettage and bone graft. Two recurred cases had the presence of bone marrow edema on MR imaging. The presence or absence of bone marrow edema may be a useful indication of tumor activity, although further study will be required.

Aneurysmal bone cysts are uncommon bony lesions of the spine. Approximately 3-20% of the aneurysmal bone cysts occur in the spine, predominantly in the lumbar region, but they may occur at the any level of the spine. These lesions commonly arise from the neural arch and occasionally invade the pedicle and the vertebral body. The clinical diagnosis of a spinal lesion can be very difficult in the early stages of the disease because specific symptoms and signs are usually absent or only amount to back pain. However, depending on the level of involvement and the extent of neurological compression, a wide variety of neurological symptoms and signs may appear, ranging from mild radicular symptoms to complete paraplegia or tetraplegia. Available treatment options include complete excision or curettage of the lesion with bone graft, but where excision cannot be achieved, low dose radiation or arterial embolization may be used. We report a case of aneurysmal bone cyst in the pedicle of the T10 spine with nonstructural scoliosis of $40^{\circ}$ Cobb's angle which was treated successfully with only curettage of the lesion.
경골 근위부 절골술에서 교정각의 변화가 임상 결과에 미치는 영향

Purpose: To determine the relation between clinical results and correction angle in proximal tibial osteotomy through the retrospective study. Materials and Methods: Seventy-two valgus osteotomies of the tibia were performed in forty-nine patients from 1985 to 1992; average follow-up period was 7 year 11 months(range, 5 to 12 years). We classi- fied the patients into three groups according to the tibiofemoral angle measured at the last follow-up. Group I includes patients with less than valgus 6 degrees of tibiofemoral angle, Group II with from valgus 7 degrees to 9 degrees and Group III with more than valgus 10 degrees. Results: The Insalls Hospital for Special Surgery knee score was gradually decreased in time as 95 at postoperative 2 years, 92 at 5 years and 82 at the last follow-up. The average preoperative tibiofemoral angle was varus 3.4 degrees and the average postoperative tibiofemoral angle was corrected as valgus 8.0 degrees, 7.9 degrees at two years, valgus 7.0 degrees at five years and valgus 5.4 degrees at the last follow-up. The group I, 40 cases(mean 9 year 7 month follow-up), showed postoperative valgus 6.4(3-15) degrees and val- gus 2.6 degrees at the last follow-up. Loss of correction was 3.8 degrees and knee score was 76 at the last fol- low-up. The group II, 21 cases(8 year 1 month), showed postoperative valgus 9.0(7-11) degrees and 7.6 degrees at the last follow-up. Loss of correction was 1.4 degrees and knee score was 83.5 at the last follow- up. The group III, 11 cases(7 year 7 month) showed postoperative valgus 11.4(10-15) degrees and 10.9 degrees at the last follow-up. Loss of correction was 0.5 degrees and knee score was 97 at the last follow-up. The group III showed better maintenance of postoperative correction angle and clinical results than the other gf OUpS. Conclusion: Deductively, it is essential to correct tibiofemoral angle more than 7, especially ranged from 10 to 15 degrees for the best long-term clinical results.
