아더 피어선의 목회사역과 정체성 형성에 대한 목회심리학적 고찰

자신의 목회 경험에 대한 평가 작업에서, 목회자들은 정체성과 내면세계에 대한 관 심과 탐색이 필요하다. 이를 바탕으로 목회자들은 목회 현장에 부딪히는 문제들을 보 다 건강하고 성숙한 방식으로 다루어 나갈 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 아더 피어선의 목 회 경험 속에서 목회자로서 자신의 정체성을 형성해 가는 삶의 이야기의 구성을 목회 심리학적 관점에서 살펴보려고 한다. 특히 내러티브 탐구에서 질적 분석의 준거로 사 용한 시간성, 공간성, 관계성의 틀을 갖고 아더 피어선의 삶의 경험을 재구성해본다. 피어선의 삶의 이야기는 하나님의 나라를 믿음으로 바라보며 삶의 여정에 많은 이 동이 있었던 영적 순례자의 이야기이다. 피어선의 삶에서 나타나는 특별한 인물은 목 회자의 대표적 기능 중 하나인 설교자의 이마고이다. 피어선의 삶과 그의 내면세계 성향 속에서 양면성의 갈등을 보게 된다. 피어선의 목회경험에 대한 자료들은 오늘날 한국교회 목회자들의 삶의 방식에 있어서도 많은 시사점을 남기며, 목회자의 건강하고 성숙한 정체성의 형성에 관한 큰 도전을 준다. In their evaluating pastoral experiences, it is necessary for pastors to concern and explore their identities and inner worlds. On this basis, pastors can deal with the problems which they struggle in their fields with healthy and mature ways. In this thesis, from pastoral psychological perspective the researcher examines the life story from pastoral experiences of Arthur T. Pierson that he built up his own identity as a pastor. With the frame of time, space, and relationships which is used in narrative inquiry as a norm of qualitative analysis, he reconstructs Pierson's life experiences. Pierson's life story was a spiritual pilgrim's story in which he looked at the kingdom of God in steadfast faith and made many movements in his life journey. A special person who appeared on his life was a imago of a preacher who is one of leading pastoral functions. In Pierson's life and his personal traits, the researcher finds out some conflicts of opposites. Historical material related to Pierson's pastoral experiences give us many thought-provoking lessons, challenging us to construct healthy and mature identity formation.

목회상담의 특성-격려를 통한 상담

목회 상담을 전개해 나가면서, 기독교의 본질적인 주제와 성격을 보고 접근한다면 여기서 한 가지 유력한 방식은 생명이라는 관점에서 보는 것이다. 기독교의 본질적인 면을 깊이 고려해볼 때, 상담을 죽음과 파괴 속으로 치닫는 인생을 생명의 길로 돌이키는 사역이다. 죽음의 어두운 그늘 밑에서 고통 받는 내담자에게 생명의 에너지를 불어넣는 사역이다. 상담은 주로 언어를 통한 의사소통 방식에 의해서 전개되는데, 여기서의 말이나 이야기는 무엇보다 치료적인 목적을 띠고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 목회상담에게 그 말과 이야기의 성격은 무엇보다도 생명을 불러일으키는 언어를 찾고 전달하는 것이라고 보는데 무엇보다 그런 특성을 지닌 언어를 격려라고 볼 수 있다. Practicing pastoral counseling, we can develop one of influential model from the perspective of life if we approach this problem in the essential subject of Christianity, When we take account into the essential part of Christianity, counseling is to lead a counselee from the lifestyle of death and destruction to the way of life. It is the ministry of infusing the energy of life into the counselee who is suffered under the dark shadow of death. Counseling is proceeded mainly through verbal communication style that has therapeutic purpose most of all. The nature of word and story in pastoral counseling is to search the language of energizing life, particularly, encouragement has such a characteristic.

목회상담에서 은유의 치료적 함의

There is a time to choose a method which a counselor explores unknown world in Christian counseling area where he or she understands and cures his or her clients as well as academic areas. At thi stime, based on empirical world that we already know and experience, metaphorical thinking can be an effective method to reach a domain of an obejct more easily and quickly. In this thesis, the researcher aims to reveal that this fundamental way which has already begun with human civilization has applied in various domains of our everyday life, discussing that it can be applied very usefully in pastoral counseling area from theoretical and practical perspectives. Metaphor has strength to visualize one’s ambiguous inner wold more clearly and help him or her to handle multiple intrinsic meanings of an object more experimentally, making the counselor have soft and patient mind which can understand and treat his or her clients’ hurt mnid. Such aspects tend to be carried out widely in psychoanalytic approach which stresses on the world of unconsciousness as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy and art therapy areas. In this thesis, the researcher tries to suggest theoretical process and practical methods in which pastoral counselors can utilize therapeutic metaphors more effectively. 학문의 세계 뿐 아니라, 종교적 신앙의 영역이나 인간의 마음을 이해하고 치유하는 상담의 영역에서 미지의 세계를 탐색하려는 접근방법을 선택해야 할 때가 있다. 이 때 은유적 사고방식은 이미 알고 있는 경험의 세계를 바탕으로 관심의 대상인 타자의 영역에 쉽고 빠르게 접근할 수 있는 효과적인 수단이 될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이미 인류 문명과 함께 시작된 이런 근원적이고 보편적인 방식이 오늘날도 삶의 여러 다양한 영역에 시도되었음을 드러내는 것이고, 특히 목회상담에서 매우 유용하게 적용될 수 있음을 이론적이고 방법적인 면에서 논의하는 것이다. 은유는 자신의 내면세계의 모호함을 좀 더 선명하게 시각화시킬 수 있는 장점이 있고, 사물에 내재한 다양한 속성을 실험적으로 다루어 볼 수 있기에 좀 더유연한 열린 마음으로 이끌 수 있고, 상처 받은 마음을 이해하고 다룰 수 있는 부드럽고 인내하는 마음을 상담자가 품게 할 수 있다. 이런 면들은 목회상담에서 무의식의 세계를 중시하는 정신분석적 접근 뿐 아니라 인지행동치료나 예술치료의접근방식에서까지도 폭넓게 실행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 은유의 이런 면모를성경적이고 목회적인 측면에서 어떻게 새롭게 이해하고 효과적으로 사용할 수있는지 이론적 전개과정과 실천적 방법을 제시하고자 한다.

아더 피어선의 미래 이야기에 관한 목회상담학적 고찰

Through our developmental process, we suffer psychological conflicts and experience life changes. We are influenced by the past as well as by the future. In this thesis, the researcher notes the formation of Arthur T. Pierson’s future story during his later life, thereby focusing on the changes of his life goals and lifestyles. The functional future story makes us pursue new life story and predicts our growth whereas dysfunctional story confines our future. The counselor should face his or her clients’ dysfunctional future story and reconstruct the hopeful future story. As a person of great initiative who led abolishing socially bad customs such as slavery and reserved-seat policy of the church in his days, Pierson was not complacent in realyit and tried innovations. Moreover, he was a future-oriented person who held the vision of overseas mission in his heart, making challenges to uncertain and dangerous future in his faithful spirit and harvested wonderful fruits. According to our viewpoint of time which we have formulated in our mind, the quality and contents of our life can be changed. Pierson asserted God-centered viewpoint of time. Christian hope is notg rounded on human potentialities but the promise of God. From such a viewpoint, in order to deliver the message of hope to their clients who are fallen into despair, mission and task of pastoral counselors are not depended on their resources and skills, including opening a passage of God’s intervention to the clients who suffer pain and sorrow. 성장 과정 속에서 우리는 심리적 갈등을 겪고 삶의 변화를 경험하게 된다. 우리는 과거에 의해서 영향을 받을 뿐 아니라, 미래에 의해서도 영향을 받는다. 본 논문에서 연구자는 아더 피어선의 삶의 후반부에서 미래 이야기의 형성에 주목하고, 그로 인한 삶의 목적과 방식에서의 변화에 집중하고자 한다. 기능적인 미래 이야기는 우리가 새로운 삶의 이야기를 추구하고, 성장을 예측할 수 있도록 해준다. 반면에 역기능적인 미래 이야기는 개인이나 집단의 미래를 제한시켜 놓는다. 상담자는 잘못된 기능을 불러일으키는 미래 이야기에 직면하고 희망에 찬 미래 이야기를 다시 구성해야 한다. 피어선은 노예제도나 교회의 지정좌석제 등의 그 당시 사회적 악습을 철폐하는 데 앞장섰던 진취적인 인물로 현실에 안주하지 않고 새로운 변화를 추구했고, 선교의 비전을 품고 불확실하고 위험한 미래를 향해 믿음으로 도전하므로 풍성한 열매를 거둔 미래지향적인 인물이었다. 우리는 어떤 시간관을 형성하는지에 따라 삶의 내용과 질이 달라질 수 있다. 피어선은 하나님 중심의 시간관을 주장했다. 기독교의 희망은 인간적 가능성이 아니라 하나님의 약속에 근거를 둔 것이다. 이런 관점에서 목회상담자의 임무와 과제는 절망에 빠진 내담자에게 희망의 메시지를 전달하기 위해 상담자 자신의 자원과 기술에만 의존하는 것이 아니라, 고통과 슬픔에 빠져 있는 내담자에게 하나님의 개입의 통로를 열어주는 것을 포함한다.
