        영어 스토리텔링의 순환적 구조 연구

          This article focuses on analysis of 11 storytelling samples produced by Korean adult test-takers of an English speaking proficiency test. The process of telling stories, hearing the stories, and retelling them is a commonly used way of communication with others not only in a classroom but also in everyday life, and moreover storytelling is a task often used in English speaking proficiency tests. Although it is surely an important part of our lives as mentioned above, there has not been much research on structure and characteristics of storytelling and its value in English language education. It should be discussed in public that what storytelling can do for English education in Korea, more specifically in teaching English speaking. This study provides what cyclical structure of storytelling is and what it means to English language education in Korea. It is illustrated that storytelling task samples of advanced learners of English can be well understood from the framework of storytelling components (Bidell, Hubbard, & Weaver, 1997).

        영어평가 프로그램 개발 실행연구 - 채점자 교육과정에 관한 성찰과 반성 : 영어평가 프로그램 개발 실행연구

        This study explores a rater training program through action research methodology. A new rater training program has been tried at an university-based test center for the last four years. The first and second implementation of a new program was replanned and carried through continuous reflections-in-action. The following activities were collected or recorded among participants of program development: participants" journal writing, e-mail exchanges, official documents, and other relevant assessment records. The locally developed program was also re-shaped from the perspectives of ISLPR, ACTFL rater training programs, and British Council"s Assessment Seminar. Problems were identified and practical solutions were suggested in the second half of 2003. Non-native speakers of English (NNS) were re-valued in English proficiency rating program, and it was suggested that EFL-centered NNS professionals can effectively set up a rater training program in Korea. Identity concerns for NNS testing professionals are discussed.

        영어말하기 코칭수업의 효과성 연구 : 자기소개 발표를 중심으로

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of coaching strategies in college-level English conversation class The main focus of coaching is on reflective peer coaching and test coaching the ten hour long coaching was conducted for five weeks in the English conversation class 56 college students were divided into two groups an experimental group learning from test and peer coaching, and a control group focusing on test coaching without peer coaching After the coaching program, four participants in the experimental group were invited into on-going interviews through face-to-face and on-line The result was summarized as follows First, students in the experimental group perceived the effect of coaching program much more positively than in the control group Second, peer coaching played a guiding role of fostering English learning skills Further research areas are also discussed

        지속가능발전과 적정교육을 위한 생태주의 언어교육의 탐색

        지속가능발전목표 의제에 UN 회원국으로서 찬성한 한국은 2000년 6월에 정부 차원에서 `새천년 국가환경` 비전을 선언하였고, 적정기술 역시 `한국의 건강한 발전과 국제사회 기여의 수단`이라고 명명하여 지속가능발전에 대해 `지속가능발전 기본계획`을 수립하고, 지속가능발전 법을 제정하는 등 지속적인 관심과 정책을 추진해왔다. 본 논문에서는 그럼에도 불구하고 지속가능발전을 위한 교육이 여전히 모호하고 쟁점적이란 학술문헌을 주목하면서 지속가능발전에 관한 논의를 언어와 교육의 영역에서 다뤄보기로 한다. 또한 지속가능발전 담론과 유사한 논점을 담고 있는 적정기술, 적정교육의 문헌을 탐색한 후에 생태주의 언어교육관으로부터 지속가능발전 및 적정교육의 정책적 실행을 돕는 이론적 토대를 탐구했다. 본 연구는 국가기관 혹은 사회단체가 주도하고 있는 지속가능발전, 혹은 적정성 기반의 교육이 각론 (교과교육) 수준에서는 실제 적용방안이 모호하며 무엇보다 대안적 교육담론으로 확장되기 위해서 이론적 토대가 시급히 모색되어야 한다고 강조했다. 그리고 언어교육 분야로 폭을 좁혀서 지속가능발전과 적정교육을 타당화시킬 수 있는 인식론적 틀을 생태주의 교육론의 논점으로부터 다뤄보았다. 지금 시대를 환경의 위기 뿐 아니라 인간의 위기로 바라보고 지속가능발전 교육을 실행시키고자 한다면, 생태적으로 지속가능한 발전전략을 고민하지 않을 수 없다. 발전의 위기를 지속가능발전의 대안담론으로 모면하려면 인간과 사회, 인간과 자연의 관계성을 재고하거나, 개별성과 다양성을 존중하는 생태친화적 환경을 새롭게 구축해야 한다. 또한 방글라데시아 EIA 언어계획 프로젝트의 사례처럼 낙후된 지역과 국가에 적정교육을 실행시키는 것 역시 획일적이고 보편적인 발전 논리보다는 목표 지역이나 학습자의 개별문화나 교육환경을 적정 수준으로 재해석했을 때 성공할 수 있었다. 이를 달리 설명하면 언어정책/계획이 생태적 교육사회환경을 충분히 재고할 때만 적정교육안이 지역이나 국가 단위에서 유의미하게 실행될 수 있다. This paper begins with an incident in which the UN announced language as a key element in achieving the next 15 years of SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). Announced in September 2015 at the United Nations, for example, the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development targeted various fields from education to technology to preserve the environment and bring economic growth. In order to find how language can practically work as a tool for sustainable development, however, in-depth theoretical and empirical research needs to be explored. In this study, the previous literature was researched firstly on `sustainable development`, and secondly on the related `appropriate technology/ pedagogy`. Then ecological approaches of language education were suggested to provide a theoretical basis for the sustainable development and appropriate language pedagogy. In an ecological model, language education is seen as a process which is part of and closely interrelated with a large range of natural and cultural ecological factors. It can be focused on the question of maintaining a diversity of language by seeking to identify those ecological factors that keep sustainable development and appropriate pedagogy. It was also discussed how ecological language models differ from conventional approaches to language education. Possible areas of further research was also discussed.

        영어교육 광고에 나타난 원어민과 내국인의 이미지 분석 연구

        The purpose of this study is to investigate how native speakers of English are positioned with Koreans on the printed images of English education advertisement. The analytic framework is based on the works of Coffman (1979) and Lee and Collins (2008). It is assumed that the printed images exposed in everyday situations affect how people think, feel, and behave with regard to the way the characters are portrayed. The research sample consisted of 236 advertising images about English education in Korea. Among them, the researchers focused on 23 images with at least one native speaker appearing. The results indicated that the printed advertisement on English education preferred white, male, native speakers as teacher's characteristics to non-native. Native speakers were often positioned as main, positive, and cheerful characters. This study implies the possibilities that the nativeness can be internalized and powered through the advertisement images in Korean society.

        기업교육과정에서 스토리텔링 진단평가도구의 활용에 관한 탐색 연구

        본 연구의 목적은 국내외 다양한 분야의 학술문헌으로부터 수집된 스토리텔링 진단평가도구들의 차별적인 특성을 기업교육의 맥락과 실제적 채점 활동으로부터 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위해 연구팀은 특수교육, 유초등교육, 언어치료, 영어교육 등 다 양한 학술 분야로부터 관련 선행문헌을 검토했고, 삼성전자 직원 대상의 2017년 봄학기 스토리텔링 교육과정에 참여한 3명의 학습자들이 사전-중간-사후 평가도구 문항에 응답한 자료를 각기 다른 진단평가 모형에 적용해보았다. 스토리텔링 진단평가 의 대표적인 모형 8개(Bliss, McCabe, & Miranda, 1998, Gilllam & Person, 2008; Hedberg & Stoel-Gammon, 1986; Heilmann, Miller, & Nockerts, 2010; Justice etal., 2010; Labov & Waletzky, 1967; Stein & Glenn, 1979)로부터 연구팀은 학습자들의 구술 자료를 채점하고 개별적으로 작성한 채점자 일지를 공유하면서 각 평가도구의 특성을 탐색했다. 채점자들의 관점과 채점 결과는 2018년 1-2월 총 5회에 걸친 전체 회의로부터 공개적으로 논의되고 조정되었다. 본 연구는 채점자들이 공유한 진단평가 과업의 적절성, 평가등급과 채점절차의 명시성, 평가영역의 채점 수행성에 관한 논점을 요약했고 추후 기업교육, 스토리텔링 교육, 구술 진단평가에서 고려되어야 할 사안을 제시해 두었다. The purpose of this study is to examine diagnostic assessment of storytelling proficiency in business education. Over the decades, oral narrative skills have been deemed as a key component of language learning process, and the related diagnostic information has been significant interest to researchers and practitioners in speech pathology, children language learning, or first/second language acquisition. Few studies, however, have been devoted to storytelling assessment in EFL (English as Foreign Language) business education. In this study, eight diagnostic assessment models of storytelling were collected, revised, and evaluated by five experienced researchers and teachers in a business education program, where students enrolled on the course titled ‘English Storytelling Practice’ within Samsung Electronics. Oral narrative samples were analyzed by micro, macro, mixed narrative scoring schemes. It was found that as micro narrative scoring scheme had low practicality to raters, especially for time-consuming and ambiguous rubric, so did mixed narrative scoring scheme. Macro scoring scheme had relatively high practicality to raters, but it provided insufficient diagnostic information to upper intermediate level storytellers. Theses finding have implication for future development of diagnostic assessment instruments in localized and business contexts.

        영어학습에 관한 TV 광고 다시 읽기: 생태주의 언어교육론으로부터

        This paper aims to criticize television advertisements on English language learning from the perspectives of ecological language learning. All the spoken texts of TV commercials on English language learning, which appeared between 2008 and 2015, were collected and transcribed for this study. The spoken texts were divided into the following three domains: 1) affective and cognitive variables in English language learning, 2) learning methodology and tools, and 3) English proficiency and success in life. Then the categorized texts were discussed through the alternative and critical discourse of ecological language learning(van Lier, 2004). In the TV advertisements, English language learning was often viewed through the lenses of modernist language ideology, where English language is still an input-output to be intrapersonally controlled, or an entity to be mastered for successful life. It was also implied that language learning is a matter of individual activity. From the ecological perspectives, however, the target language for learning is expanded into a constantly emergent set of linguistic possibilities. Language learning involves the multilayered nature of interaction and language use. It is hoped that the ecological viewpoints become a key foundation for alternative discourse in English language education, even in the media context. (Chungang University)

        영어영문학 교육과정의 확장을 위한 스토리텔링 연구분야의 유의미성 탐구

        The purpose of this study is to explore the meaningfulness of storytelling research based on English Language and Literature resources. It discusses the way such academic disciplines as English literature and linguistics need to be expanded or integrated in the areas of storytelling research. In the context of the ‘risk society’ and globally digitalized media, this paper discusses specific areas of research (such as digital storytelling, contents development, language identity, cultural studies, discourse analysis) related to the proposed program of English Language and Literature. The area of storytelling healing is elaborated to provide a touchstone case of how storytelling research can be embedded in English Language and Literature programs. Implication for further studies (e.g., actual curriculum implementation, professional development plans) is also discussed. (Chungang University)

        ‘비판성’의 새로운 탐색: 비판적 존재론과 브리콜라주 연구활동의 관점에서

        본 연구의 목적은 현대 지식사회에 출현한 다양한 전환적(예: 서사적, 비판적, 담론적, 기호적, 미학적, 공간적, 문화적) 사유로부터 비판연구의 필요와 비판성의 진원지를 새롭게 모색하는 것이다. 우선 나는 비판성을 개념적으로 확장할 수 있는 이론적 토대로 ‘비판적 존재론’과 ‘브리콜라주 연구’에 관한 문헌을 정리했다. 아울러 서로 다른 연구환경, 연구자로서 가용할 수 있는 자원, 현장에서 요구되는 구체적인 필요 등을 고려해서 ‘자서전적 사례’로부터 ‘비판연구’와 ‘비판연구자’가 보다 맥락적이면서도 실존적으로 이해되어야 한다고 제안했다. 본 논문은 자서전적 연구자료를 본격적으로 수집하고 분석하기에 앞서 비판연구자로 분투하는 삶을 살았던 내가 지난 23년 동안 발간한 국내외 학술문헌 140여 편을 네가지 전환적 지식체계로부터 구분한 것이다. 예비적 단계에서나마 나 자신의 비판연구에 관한 ‘메타의식’을 탐색하는 중에 나는 지금까지 브리콜라주 비판연구자로서 실존적 주체성을 획득하고 있음을 발견했다. 비판연구는 개인 연구자에게 개별적이고 윤리적인 실천이면서 또 한편으로 정치적이고 저항적인 실존으로 살아가는 주체화 과정이다. 앞으로 연구자들의 자서전적 서술과 논증이 비판적 존재론과 브리콜라주 연구의 가치를 확인할 수 있는 문헌으로 참조되어야 한다. The purpose of this study is to offer investigate conceptual foundations for critical research, so called, ‘critical ontology’ and ‘bricolage’ research activities, in the perspectives of a critical applied linguist. The critique, as reinterpreted as the arts of existence or critical ontology of ourselves, is placed in the on-going inquiry for the critical and qualitative researchers in this study. Critical understanding of ourselves is also suited with bricolage research. The concept of bricolage can be illustrated in a praxis of interpretation and understanding with getting together of rigorousness, complexity, and criticality. In this study, the combined characteristics of critical ontology and bricolage were to be discussed in the construction of a critical reseacher’ biographical growth. In the preliminary stage for the autobiographical research to find out the combined meaningfulness of the critical ontology and bricolage, I mapped out the prominent and turning knowledges which made myself identified as ‘critical researcher’ in my research career. My research trajectory, based on the published research papers and books of mine, were reflected and divided into the four (narrative, critical, discursive, cultural) major turns. It turned out that I have developed my identity of ‘a critical researcher’ through the perspectives of critical ontology and bricolage. It is hoped that the further writing of autobiographies plays as a autonomous channel for developing the sense of being a critical researcher. Possible areas of research are discussed. This article concluded with some suggestions for future directions of methodological development.

        영어에 관한 욕망, 자기배려, 인정의 이해: 정체성에 관한 학제간 연구의 탐색

        The purpose of this paper is to explore resistant and alternative models of identity construction in the field of applied linguistics and second and foreign (L2) education. Humanistic and even post-structuralist approaches to L2 identity are critically reviewed in the lens of neo-liberal governmentality and subjectivities. Theoretical resources from different fields are listed to understand how interdisciplinary approaches to identity construction have emerged from the linguistic turn and structuralist movement (e.g., Althusser’s ideology, Foucault’s power/discourse), and anthropologists’ approaches to language ideology and subjectivities, including Reddy’s emotion regime. Rationalization and legitimation of newly explored L2 identities are incorporated into ethic al subjects of Foucault and Honneth. By referring to Ancient Greek’s literature on ‘self-care’, Foucault suggests a resistant subject to subordination, as Honneth positions ‘mutual recognition’ in the motivational and justificatory basis for social struggles. There are controversies as to whether disrespect and injustice exposed to the neo-liberal society allows for opportunities to create newly conceived human characters. This study also makes suggestions for future directions, by taking identity researchers to the ‘affective turn’. It is expected that linguistic and affective turn are socio-politically interconnected with discourse, ideology, or emotion regime beyond text. This study explicates how research on desire, self-care, recognition, and affect can combine macro and micro approaches and offer a balance between power structure and interpretative agency.
