The purpose of this study is to clarify the influence of the reaction temperature and AlCl₃content on the aluminide coating formation on Ni-based superalloy IN713C in CVD process and to compare its throwing power with that of Pack Cementation process. Aluminide coating was formed by CVD in hot-wall stainless tube reactor from an AlCl₃-H₂mixture in the temperature range 850∼1050℃. At reaction temperature 850℃, the coating thickness and the content of aluminium at the surface were increased as AlCl₃heating temperature was raised. At reaction temperature 1050℃, they were not influenced by the variation of AlCl₃heating temperature. When AlCl₃heating temperature was fixed 125℃, the phases of the coatings were varied from Ni₂Al₃to Al-rich NiAl and to Ni-rich NiAl with the reaction temperature. Therefore, in this stucy the reaction temperature has been found to be a major factor in determining the phase formed in CVD process. The throwing power of CVD was superior to that of Pack Cementation.

Electromgnetic joining of aluminum alloy tubes to high toughness polyurethane rubber cores is studied in order to estimate the joining strength and to analyze the effect of the process variables. The equation which can estimate the joining strength is proposed under considering the elastic recovery of the polyurethane core and the radial shrinkage of the core by pulling it axially. The obtained results are as follows : 1) The joining strength is mainly dependent on the magnitude of residual elastic strain of the polyurethane core. 2) The radial shrinkage (residual strain reduction) of the core during the axial pulling causes the joining strength to decrease severely. The equation for the reduced axial strength is proposed and it is found that the estimated values agree well with experimental results. 3) The magnitude of radial shrinkage could be reduced for the smaller value of ratio l/r. 4) The joining strength in metal/polymer joining increases as the friction coefficient increases. But its effect of friction coefficient is insignificant in comparison with the case of metal/metal joining.

The simultaneous addition of Al and Cr to the surface of Ni-and Fe-base alloy provides enhanced resistance to oxidation and corrosion in high temperatures. However, because of the large differences in thermodynamic stabilities of the volatile halides of Al and Cr, the codeposition of Al and Cr by halideactivated pack cementation is only possible for very specific, limited combinations of conditions. In this study, the experiments on the combinations of various metallic source powders and activators were conducted in order to obtain codeposition layers of Al and Cr on Ni with adequate composition by pack cementation. When Cr-Al masteralloy was used as a source powder, it was not easy to control Al and Cr content sensitively in the coating layers. On the other hand, when pure Cr and Al powder was used, β-NiAl layer containing about 20wt% Cr was obtained.
