Purpose: In this study, relationships between symptom experience and quality of life in a cross-sectional sample of patients with Atrial Fibrillation (AF) were investigated. Methods: This descriptive study involved a convenience sample of AF patients from S university hospital, C city. One hundred and two AF patients completed psychometric validated measures of AF related symptoms and quality of life. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS WIN 14.0 were used for data analysis. Results: Of 16 atrial arrhythmia-related symptoms, the patients reported ‘tiredness’ as the most frequent and ‘shortness of breath’ as the most severe. The level of overall quality of life for patients with AF was 53.92. There were significant differences in symptom frequency according to religion, New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification and left ventricular ejection fraction ; symptom severity according to monthly income and stroke ; quality of life according to age, job, alcohol intake, NYHA class and stroke. Quality of life for these patients was positively correlated with symptom frequency and symptom severity. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that patients with more frequent and severe symptoms perceive poorer quality of life than patients with less frequent and less severe symptoms. Symptom experience should be assessed early to improve quality of life for patients.
경기도 김포, 인천 서구지역 소하천의 PCE 탈염소화 군집의 선별 및 다양성 분석

경기도 김포 지역과 인천 서구 지역공단 주변에 위치한 소하천의 저니(sediment)에서 난분해성 염소화합물인 PCE (tetrachloroethylene)의 혐기성 탈염소화 능력이 있는 군집을 선별하고, 탈염소화에 관여하는 미생물을 탐색하였다. 혐기성 탈염소화 능력을 조사하기 위해 전자공여체로 lactate를 사용하여 혐기성 회분식 실험을 실시하였으며, 탈염소화 능력을 가진 군집을 선별하였다. 선발된 미생물군집은 분자생물학적 기법인 16S rRNA gene의 Polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) 기법과 탈염소화 미생물을 선택적으로 탐색할 수 있는 species-specific primer를 이용하여 분석하였다. 총 16개의 시료 중에서 접종 8주 만에 3개의 시료에서 ethene까지 탈염소화시켰으며, 4개의 시료에서 cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cis-DCE)까지 탈염소화시켰다. 또한, 16S rRNA gene을 이용한 PCR-DGGE와 탈염소화 species-specific primer를 이용하여 분석한 결과, PCE 탈염소화 시료 내에는 Dehalococcoides sp.와 Geobacter sp.가 주로 존재하였으며, Dehalobacter sp.도 일부 시료에서 검출되었다. In this study, anaerobic enrichment cultivation was performed with the sediments from the Gimpo and Inchon areas. Lactate as an electron donor and PCE as an electron acceptor was injected into the serum bottle with an anaerobic medium. After the incubation of 8 weeks, the reductive dechlorination of PCE was observed in 7 sites among 16 sites (43%). Three enrichment cultures showed completely dechlorination of PCE to ethene, while four enrichment culture showed transformation of PCE to cis-DCE. The bacterial community structure was analyzed by PCR-DGGE. Dechlorinating bacteria were detected by species-specific primers. The dominant species in seven anaerobic enrichments were found to belong to the genus of Dehalococcoides sp. and Geobacter sp., and Dehalobacter sp.
