Although various kinds of sentences are employed to express command, their graded appropriateness in politeness is based on mutually exclusive language-used situations. A lot of evidences show cross-linguistic variance in expressing politeness in alliance with the cultural differences. Especially, when speaking politely in English command, indirect and respectful expressions are preferred to direct ones. Also it is reported that past tense is used for less direct and more polite expressions. By making these usages constraints and setting their rankings differently in Optimality Theory, it can be systematically explained to judge graded appropriateness of various polite expressions used in English command.

The diversity of euphemistic command in English is worth studying if the aim of linguistics is to fully understand the human mind. It is clear that some euphemistic degrees are found among various command-expressions with semantic and syntactic differences although they bear the same message and usage. Euphemism is a generally innocuous expression used instead of offensive or unpleasant one. That is, the aim of euphemism is to alleviate hearers offensive and unpleasant feelings of something, and the way of euphemism, to express those indirectly. Thus, degrees of euphemism from speakers attitudes can not but be expressed in various indirect expressions. Syntactic differences show that euphemistic degrees are gradually raised or lowered in accordance with (in-)directness of expressing the same message: questions > statements > directives. And speakers attitudes also produce the euphemistic degrees of tense and mood: past > present, and subjunctive > indicative > imperative, respectively.

“Support /səpɔˊ:rt/” may be pronounced as follows: [səpʰ ɔˊ:rt] or [spʰɔˊ:rt]. In English phonology the latter [spʰɔˊ:rt] has more phonologically critical problems than [ə] is deleted, because [pʰ] shouldn t normally appear after [s]. Although [pʰ] is an allophone of /p/, it even distinguishes [spʰɔˊ:rt] “support”and [spʼɔˊ:rt] “sport”in meaning. This phonological inconsistency, which is not explained in rule-based phonology, is neatly explained in Optimality Theory. As Optimality Theory is a constraint-based phonology, misdistributed allophones can be also optimal forms, because optimal forms can violate constraints, which are lower than decisive ones in ranking, and be chosen by ranking constraints differently.

메밀의 지방산 및 페놀화합물 생합성과 tyrosinase 저해 활성에 대한 몇가지 비료의 영향을 조사한 결과 다음과 같다. 메밀 식물체중의 지방산 함량은 곡류중의 지방산 함량 보다 작으며 메밀 식물체와 곡류중의 지방산은 포화지방산과 불포화지방산으로 구성되어 있으며 불포화지방산이 포화지방산보다 많은 것으로 나타났다. 메밀중의 페놀화합물은 $682.6{\sim}1822.0mg\;kg^{-1}$이며 석회 시용구의 메밀중 페놀화합물이 $1822.0mg\;kg^{-1}$로 다른 비료 시용구보다 높았다. 한편 석회가 시용된 메밀 곡류중의 sediment c의 tyrosinase 저해활성은 92.8%로 같은 처리내의 sediment c의 compound A, B, C 보다 높았다. 그러나 붕사가 처리된 메밀 곡류중의 compound C의 tyrosinase의 저해활성은 80.9%로 같은 처리구 내의 sediment나 다른 compound보다 높은 것으로 나타났다. In order to investigate the change of physiological active compounds in buckwheat with soil chemical properties and soil conditioners, we cultured buckwheat at an experimental open field station, Chonnam Provincial Agicultual Reserch and Extension Service. Fatty acids, phenolic compounds and tyrosinase inhibitory activity (TIA) from buckwheat grains and plants were analyzed. The contents of fatty acids in buckwheat plants was less than that of buckwheat grain. The fatty acids of buckwheat plants and grains were composed of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The contents of unsaturated fatty acids were more than saturated fatty acids. The phenolic compounds in buckwheat were from $682.6mg\;kg^{-1}$ to $1822mg\;kg^{-1}$. The phenolic compounds in buckwheat with addition of applied lime were $1822mg\;kg^{-1}$. It was higher than any other plot. The tyrosinase inhibitory activity (TIA) of sediment c in buckwheat grain with addition of applied lime was 92.8%. It was more than that of sediment a, b or compound A, B, C within the same treatment. But the TIA of compound C in buckwheat with application of borax was 81.0%. It was highest of all sediments and compounds within the same treatment.

Co or Ni was added to cemented (W,Ti)C as a binder for forming composite structures. The high cost of Co or Ni and the low corrosion resistance of (W,Ti)C-Co or (W,Ti)C-Ni cermet have generated interest in recent years in the search to find alternative binder phases. It has been reported that aluminides have a higher oxidation resistance, a higher hardness and are cheaper materials than Co and Ni. Using a pulsed current activated sintering (PCAS) method, the densification of (W,Ti)C and (W,Ti)C-NiAl3 hard materials were accomplished within 3 minutes. The advantage of this process is not only rapid densification to near theoretical density but also the prohibition of grain growth in nano-structured materials. Highly dense (W,Ti)C and (W,Ti)C-NiAl3 with a relative density of up to 99% were obtained within 3 minutes by PCAS under a pressure of 80 MPa. The average grain sizes of the (W,Ti)C was lower than 100 nm. The hardness and fracture toughness of the dense (W,Ti)C and (W,Ti)C-NiAl3 produced by PCAS were also investigated. Nanopowders of TiO2 and Al were prepared from a high energy ball milling method to fabricate sintered 3Ti-Al2O3 composites with nanostructures. A dense nanocrystalline 3Ti-2Al2O3 composite was consolidated by a pulsed current activated sintering method from the mechanically activated powder. Consolidation of dense 3Ti-Al2O3 composites with a relative density of up to 99% was accomplished under the combined contribution of a pulsed current and a mechanical pressure of 60 MPa. The hardness and fracture toughness of the fabricated composites were 1207 kg/mm2 and 7 MPa¥m1/2, respectively.

Nanopowders of $Co_3O_4$ and FeAl were fabricated by high energy ball milling. Dense 4.25 $Co_{0.53}Fe_{0.47}-Al_2O_3$ composite was simultaneously synthesized and consolidated by high frequency induction heated combustion method within 2 min from mechanically activated powders. Consolidation was accomplished under the combined effects of a induced current and mechanical pressure of 80 MPa.
