In the applications of FRP materials, it seems the most efficient to use them as pre-stressing tendons, considering their high strength. However, the lack of ductility is of most concern due to their linear elastic behavior up to rupture. In order to solve this ductility problem, a new concept of prestressed concrete beam is proposed, introducing internally un-bonded CFRP tendons. It is essential to verify the long-term safety for repetitive fatigue loads under service states, as well as the safety at the ultimate state. For this purpose, flexural fatigue loading tests were carried out for three test beams. The results showed that the beams prestressed with CFRP tendons had enough safety under fatigue loads, although additional more tests are required in the future.

DIFFRACTIVE EXCITATION OF 14.6 A GeV ^28Si NUCLEI IN NUCLEAR EMULSION

By use of a new angular method (Kim C. O. et al. 1990). forty-nine Diffractive Excitation(DE) events have been identified among 737 inelastic interactions, obtained in tracing 71.69m of tracks of 14.6 A GeV Si nuclei in nuclear emulsion by the along-the-track scanning method. resulting in the 'apparent' MFP of DE interactions of Si at 14.6 A GeV as 1.5±0.2m. Several features of diffractively excited Si nuclei have been compared with those of O and S. DE process may explain occurrence the Centauro event in cosmic rays.

원자핵건판 내에서 1.88A GeV의 에너지를 갖는 ^56Fe 중이온(heavy ion)의 평균자유행로는 비적추적법(along-the-track scanning method)을 사용하여 8.01±0.27㎝로 측정되었다. ^56Fe 주이온에 의한 회절들뜸반응을 KHP 판정법으로 찾아내었으며, 회절들뜸반응에 대한 평균자유행로는 0.86±0.10m로 측정되었다. 입사중이온의 정지계 내에서 ^56Fe 중이온에 의한 80개의 회절들뜸 및 준회절들뜸반응에 대한 알파입자와 단일하전 입자의 의사신속도 분포는 각각 (γ_a-η_b)_max=3.31, (γ_a-η_b)_max=2.30에서 최대값을 갖는 가우스분포함수 형태를 이루었다. By employing the method of along-the -track scanning. the mean free path of inelastic collisions for 1.8A GeV^56Fe heavy ion in nuclear emulsion is measured to be 8.01±0.27㎝. "Diffractive Excitation" events are identified by using the KHP method and the mean free path of diffractive excitation is measured to be 0.86±0.10m. The distributions of pseudorapidities of alpha and singly-charged fragments for diffractive excitation of 1.88A GeV ^Fe heavy ion are well fitted by Gaussian distribution function with peaks having (γ_a-η_b)_max=3.30 and (γ_p-η_b)_max=2.24.

We have shortened the downstream part of the K2 beam line from the original design to raise the kaon yields for the requirement. A layout of the modified K2 beam line is shown in fig. I and the total beam length is 25.7m. Since the high beam flux is not required. Q5 which made the beam flux is not required. Q5 which made the beam achromatic at FF, is omitted. The drift length between Q5 and Q7 is adjusted, so that the total length becomes short and that the beam ellipse at FF satisfies the above condition.

We have found 122 charmed - particle decays among 3855 neutrino interactions located in the fiducial volume of a hybrid emulsion spectrometer installed in the Fermilab wide-band neutrino beam.
Production Characteristics of Charmed Particles in Neutrino Interactions

Using a hybrid emulsion spectrometer installed in the Fermilab wide-band neutrino beam, we located a total of 3888 neutrino interactions in the fiducial volume of our target. For 122 charmed-particle decays found in these interactions. we present distributions of x, y charm-muon angular projection. Feynman- X, and the fragmentation Z. We find that the number of strange quarks in the nucleon sea is 4.2±2.1±2.6% of the number of down quarks.
RF Plasma 법으로 증착된 TiCN 박막의 구조 및 기계적 거동에 관한 연구

The structure and mechanical properties of TiN and TiCN thin films deposited on STD61 steel substrates by the RF-sputtering methods has been studied by using XPS, XRD, micro-hardness tester, scratch tester, and wear-resistance tester. XPS results showed that the TiCN thin film formed with chemical bonding state. The TiN thin films grew with (111) orientation having the lowest strain energy by compressive stress, whereas the TiCN thin films grew with both (111) and (200) orientation, but (200) orientation having the lowest surface energy becomes dominant as carbon contents increase. The pre-etching treatment of substrate did not affect on the preferred orientation of thin films, but it played an important role in improving mechanical properties of thin films such as the hardness, adhesion and wear-resistance. Especially, the TiCN thin films showed the superior wear resistances due to high hardness and low friction coefficient compared with TiN thin films.
