It is often said that this novel has provided a model for the direction of postmodern fiction. thus, this paper aims to show how this novel shares postmodern concerns. This novel as a political text can be read as a cirtique of subjectivity and of representation. This novel os a story about the solitude of a family. They suffer from various forms of solitude because of their basic inability to love. But Marquez shows poetic and fantastic transformation of empirical experience. It blurs the boundaries between what is magic and what is real. Thus it calls into question the accepted definition. In this novel this blurring takes the form of lack of distinction between the living and the dead. So, the reliance on a mimetic language to contain 'reality' is undermined. It is about those threads that we trace, and trace, and trace. But not to a conclusion. It is resisting closure of meaning. Although this novel is anti-realist fiction, it manages to reconnect readers with the world around them. Therefore, the novel reminds us the other great tradition.

<The former period of Yi dynasty> 1. In the former part of Yi dynasty, the legal number of the naval forces was increased greatly due to two times of Construction of the naal ships by the naval forces is recorded to be 48,800. 2. However, the military role of the canal forces was so hard compared with that of the army that most of them evaded to do their obligation. 3. Owing to the reason mentioned above, the naval soldiers were given a special leave and in turn they had to pay reward. This resultd in breaking the military discipline. In this situation it was very hard to maintain the legal number of the naval forces. <The latter period of Yi dynasty> 1. In the latter part of Yi dynasty, it was even hard to find the legal number of the naval forces in the history. The reason is that the naval forces equivalent to the civil forces were used rather in supplying military preparations than in doing the military service. 2. According to the record, There was che legal number of about one hundred thousnads 18 th C. and of about one hundred forty thousands in 19 th C., but it is very hard to believe it as a legal number. 48,800 soldiers as a legal number in the former part of Yi dynasty were uncertain, but they were main forces to repulse the Japanese invasion. The history shows that in the latter part of Yi dynasty, the naval forces never participated in the war activities and were gradually demolished by themselves.

『백색소음』의 환경비평적 읽기: 죽음의 패러노이아를 중심으로

The purpose of this paper is to identify DeLillo’s consciousness of environmental crisis by analyzing White Noise with an emphasis on the major characters’s paranoia of death. The novel consists of three parts as follows: “Waves and Radiation,” “The Airborne Toxic Event” and “Dylarama.” First, in Part 1 DeLillo shows us the post-modern environment full of multiple environment risks caused by waves and radiation. The protagonist Jack and his wife Babette are obsessed by the paranoia of death because of multiple environmental risks. Second, in Part II the chemical toxic event becomes the most crucial of risks that drives Jack to the fear of death. Jack’s concern about death is transformed into the simulation of computer data. Third, in Part III Dylar is an experimental drug derived from another chemical substance which lessens the fears of death. So Babette has obtained the drug to suppress the fear of death. Nevertheless, she suffers from the loss of memory because of the side effects of this pill. In view of above results, I insist that the novel is an excellent environmental text in post-modern society in that various environmental risks revealed in White Noise create a moral climate that contributes to solving environmental problems.

해체비평에 대한 고찰 : Derrida를 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to understand Deconstructive Criticism and to identify the value of the critical theory. In this study Deconstructive Criticism was treated as a mode of reading. According to Saussure's language theory, a language is conceived as a system of difference. This view is a powerful critique of logocentrism. Nevertheless, there is an affirmation of logocentrism in Saussure's argument. A theory based on difference does not escape logocentrism but finds itself appealing to presence. Deconstruction is not a theory that defines meaning in order to tell you how to find it. It cannot be content with the pragmatic conception of truth. It differs from pragmatism in its attitude toward a reflexive inquiry. First of all, a deconstructive reading identifies a paradoxical situation. Therefore, it never, be definition, yield a coherent theory. As it denies logocentrism, it seeks to produce reversals and displacement. The result of this study shows us the conclusion that text should be interpreted not in terms of absolute truth but with acceptance of a necessary relativity in our critical propositions.

The critical attention on Hemingway's works has often focused on tragedy based on tragic death. Against the critical consent, this paper aims to show that his short stories, "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" , carries tragic affirmation theme. In "The Snows of Kilimanjaro", Harry resulted in tragic death from his rotting leg. He also regretted his past life of secular pleasure such as women, money and travels. But Harry sees the blissful vision of supreme success right before he dies. Thus, we can find that Harry’s tragedy carries an tragic affirmation. In "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber", Macomber also resulted in tragic death by his wife’s shooting. But he experienced “fear gone like operation” and “ a faith in self”. It is certain that it makes his death a kind of victory. Finally we can find the paradox of tragic affirmation in both Harry and Macomber.

윌리엄 포크너의『소음과 분노』: 사랑의 부재와 가족의 붕괴

This paper aims to examine The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner in terms of the loss of love and family’s disintegration. In the novel we can find out a nightmare group of characters, that is, an alcoholic, cynical father; a demanding and hypocritical mother, a helpless idiot, an obsession-driven suicide, a vicious materialist. The pathological aspects of family members drive the Compson to family disintergration. Finally, this study shows us that the loss of love among family members is responsible for The family’s disintegration.

라캉과 데리다의 정신분석적 독법에 관한 비교연구 : 포우의 「도난당한 편지」를 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to compare Lacanian view with Derridian view in reading "Seminar on The Purloined Letter" and "The Purveyor of Truth" So far, literature has been submitted to authority and the prestige of psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis occupies the place of a subject and literature that of an object: the relation of interpretation is structured as a relation of master to slave. But in "Seminar on The Purloined Letter" Lacan sees the story as a parody of psychoanalysis. Thus, psychoanalysis becomes the example of the example. Finally, Lacan deconstructs the relation between literature and psychoanalysis. According to Lacan, there are three glances in "Seminar on The Purloined Letter". The first is a glance that sees nothing: the King and the police. The second, a glance which sees that the first sees nothing: The Queen ,then Minister. The third sees that the first two glances leave what should be hidden exposed to whomever would seize it: the Minister, and finally Dupin. But in "The Purveyor of Truth" Derrida adds narrator to three glances. Thus, according to Derrida there are four glances. To be short, in this paper we found out results as follows: In Lacan the narrator's place is excluded as a commentary. He transforms the entire seminar into analytical fascination with a content. But in Derrida the narrator is a specific status of his discourse which is not neutral.
