Development of Human Factors Evaluation System for Car Navigation System

This paper describes the theoretical background and detailed structure of Navi-HEGS (Navigation system Human factors Evaluation and Guideline System) which has been developed for the human factors and HMI(Human-Machine Interface) researches for a CNS (Car Navigation System) and a digital map. Navi-HEGS is and integrated system that consists of a digital map UIMS(User Interface Management System), a CNS simulator, various evaluation tools, and a design guideline system. If Navi-HEGS is properly applied and utilized, it is possible to extract the substantial users requirements and preferences of a CNS and a digital map and then, these requirements can be simulated and evaluated with various human factors evaluation techniques. Applications of Navi-HEGS can improve the CNS usability, drivers safety and performance that directly affect the success of ITS(Intelligent Transport System). Also, results can be used as the basic data to establish the standards and design guidelines for the driver-centered CNS design.

N/A A digital map is the most important component of the car navigation system. Then, a landmark is used to select a direction for destination and to find a position of vehicle position easily and efficiently, but it has not been standardized and designed by human factors perspective technologies. This problem implies the possibilities to generate unsafe situation and non consistent compatibilities the driver`s information perception. This paper suggests the human factors design guidelines of the landmark for the designers and developer for the efficient human factors design. Experiment results that derived by the classification of dominant attributes of landmark give a solution of cognitive problems about resource competition. Then, its result indicates color, pattern, outline, text, graphic dimension are the effective factors for the human landmark perception, it also indicates that image pattern, multiple color, outline, text shaped landmark is the most efficient. Map developer must consider human factors and cognitive aspect of landmark to reduce those problems.

This paper describes a neural network based website Kansei usability evaluationprototype system. This system simultaneously operates with the Microsoft^TM Internet Explorer, and the results are learned using a neural network. In this paper, firstly, we derived the Kansei adjectives and the effective website usability factors, and they were matched by Correspondence Analysis. Then, highly corresponded adjectives were implemented on the system for the Kansei evaluation. Also, the evaluation efficiency of the suggested system was investigated using SSE (Sum of Squared Error) and estimated user's satisfaction. Finally, the results showed the efficiency of developed algorithm and system for the website evaluation.
