Recently, concerns about conserving proper size of urban green spaces and accessibility are increasing, regarding it as a solution to diverse urban environmental problems including pollution, ecosystem deterioration, urban climate change. Artificial ground greening such as green roofs is regarded as the only alternative that can conserve green spaces which are impossible to be secured on the ground. However, green roofs are not popularized yet and levels are very low in provincial cities despite of related technology development and support systems of related agencies. Based on the background, this study tries to present a theoretical basis of methods for green roofs, conducting green roof simulations Finally, it aims to offer base data which help establish policy direction for activation of green roof technology. As a result of a simulation for verifying temperature reduction effect, it was possible to affirm effect of a plot that green roofs applied. Especially, it was revealed that a green roof method using ground covers such as mixed planting was the most effective way to reduce temperature. Based on precise analysis of the users, actual study for activation of green roofs should be developed in the future, by presenting a standard model for experiments and obtaining information about examples of green roofs on private houses.
대구시 앞산공원을 이용한 어린이 체험환경교육 프로그램 개발

This research introduced an Experience Environmental Education program in an open space for children to provide those living in an urban environment with opportunities to experience nature and develop sensitivity toward natural environments in the case of Apsan Park in Daegu. The open space plays an ecological, environmental and social role, as does the landscape. Recently it has also included an educational function as a nature classroom. Moreover, the role of the open space becomes more important as a place of experiencing the natural environment easily due to the necessity and importance of environmental education. Therefore, experiencing environmental education using open spaces is considered an educational phenomenon. To revitalize environmental education for children, the survey was implemented in regards to the current state of and issues related to the environmental education of kindergarteners, the usage of an open space as a place for environmental education, and the facts considered in developing an experience-related environmental education program. The results are as follows: 1. Teachers in Daegu kindergartens considered experiencing environmental education using the natural environment as educationally effective. 2. There was a positive response to using an open space with abundant natural resources as the place to Experience Environmental Education. Therefore, there are not many external obstacles for carrying out Experience Environmental Education in the open space, so the open space can be used as an educational place to experience nature, as well as a place for exercise, recreation and relaxation for citizens. 3. The activities included in developing the Experience Environmental Education program were an environmental sensitivity activity, a recreation activity and an artistic activity. This study selected Apsan Park which has high recognition by Daegu citizens and is easily accessible for Experience Environmental Education, and planned to utilize the potential of the park and its natural environment as the place of Experience Environmental Education through literature and observation research.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest a design on the Gimcheon Train Station Square which is needed to redevelop. The design focussed on sense of place, symbolism, environment, economical efficiency and originality. It's also designed to reflect the characteristic of Gimcheon and express symbolic image as a public space. In addition to that, concept of good passing to give easy access to user and one of connection between pedestrian passage and rest space and community plaza and so on are included in the design. Finally, we hope that citizens will be proud of new Gimcheon Train Station Square as a symbol of the region.

Based on the background, this study tries to present a theoretical basis of methods for green roofs, collecting ideas about problems and improving measures from green roof users. Finally, it aims to offer base data which help establish policy direction for activation of green roof technology. Results of a survey on public awareness, using status, and improving measures of green roofs are as follows: First of all, publicity activities which aim to offer information for citizens must be conducted to activate green roofs. Second, it is needed to establish solutions and to offer technology and management information because green roof users recognize problems concerning load, waterproofing, and garbage disposal in common. Third, green roofs should be applied to public agencies or buildings on a trial basis. For private houses, it is required to build green roofs first by accepting applications. Fourth, legal and institutional preparation for support systems is needed because citizens' biggest considerations are basic subjects on materials and expense of green roofs. Activation methods for green roofs based on this study are as follows: First, it is a priority to readjust systems related to green roofs. Second, citizens' active and voluntary participation must be attained. Third, it is required to establish detailed promotion procedures which aim at actual conduct and to maintain an expert department which is able to manage and control the establishment. After conduct, continuous aftercare stages are also needed.

Green roofs have attracted attention as a way of alternatives to solve expanding urban forests and the urban heat islands. To satisfy the demand for green roofs and use them efficiently, intensive green roof systems have been introduced. However, intensive green roof systems have some limits including cost and weight, so extensive green roof systems have been actively studied. For green roof systems to become more feasible, it is necessary to research extensive green roof systems able to be safely applied to existing buildings. To select trees suitable for each area, this research observed the growth status of five kinds of flowers and shrubs including thyme, ivy, willowleaf spiraea, evening promise, and pyracantha by planting them on the roof of a small-scale building model. To know the effect of regulating the room temperature of the extensive green roof, a digital thermometer was placed inside the building model. First, the results of selecting species of trees for the extensive green roof are as follows. It is considered that pyracantha is the most suitable for the extensive green roof because it showed the best growth status among five species during the research period from late summer to winter. Although thyme, ivy, and willowleaf spiraea displayed poor growth for the winter, they showed good growth from rootage to early and mid October. Therefore, it is regarded that they have great adaptability for rooftops. Meanwhile, willowleaf spiraea and pyracantha are thought to have ornamental value because of the pink flowers of willowleaf spiraea and the red fruit of pyracantha. In particular, pyracantha has red fruit in the winter so it is regarded as an extensive green roof plant with high growth status and ornamental value. Second, the effect on regulating the room temperature of the extensive green roof is as follows. In all experimental green roof groups (thyme, ivy, willowleaf spiraea, evening promise, and pyracantha), the room temperature was measured lower, compared with an experimental non-green roof group. Therefore, the study shows the green roof system regulates room temperature in the summer time. Temperature was reduced more from 12:00 to 16:00 than at 10:00 or 18:00, showing a maximum temperature difference of 3℃. It may be difficult to ascertain the difference of temperature reduction according to plant species.
