This paper describes the effect of the multiple injection and injection pressure on the combustion and emission characteristics in a CRDI diesel engine at various operating conditions. In order to investigate the influence of multiple injections and injection pressure in a diesel engine, the fuel injection timing was varied double pilot injections and main injection at TDC. The experimental apparatus is consisted of DI diesel engine with 4 cylinders, EC dynamometer, multi-stage injection and injection pressure control system, and exhaust emissions analyzer. The combustion and emission characteristics are investigated of various injection strategies such as analyzed for the main, one pilot-main, double pilot-main strategy. The results showed that the average of peak combustion pressure is increased with the increase of injection pressure. Also, double pilot injection has a great effect on reducing NOx emissions because the decrease of peak heat release rates. However soot is increased at the double pilot injection compared to single injection. Based on this result, it showed that the combustion and emission characteristics can be improved as the pilot injection is retarded.

Currently, the proportion of diesel vehicles in all automobile has grown significantly over the past few years. Air pollutant also grew up and became a social problem. In particular, the issue of NOx emissions caused by NOx high emission in real driving has become a global issue. Despite the fact that the regulatory and reduction project of the new vehicle is actively carried out, there are no existence regulations of In-use diesel vehicle's NOx emission. Therefore, the emission characteristics of the in-use diesel vehicles were investigated to seek ways to reduce NOx emissions in this study. The test targets were used in 237 close inspection of exhaust gases and model year varied from 1996 to 2011. However, the classification of emissions by emission standards differed considerably from NOx emissions. This means that the selection method for early retirement targets should be converted from model year to amount of emissions. If the current early retirement program was applied to the existing system, pre-Euro 3 was 22.530 g/km and Euro 4 was 21.810 g/km to NOx reduction. However, when the vehicle was changed to high emission target vehicle, NOx reduction increase maximum 84.705 kg/yr. According to the study results, an effective reduction in NOx emissions can be achieved if an earlier target in expanded to Euro 4 vehicles.
바이오디젤 혼합연료를 적용한 4 실린더 커먼레일 디젤엔진에서 EGR율이 연소 및 배기특성에 미치는 영향

This study describes the effect of EGR rate on the combustion and emissions characteristics of a four cylinder CRDI diesel engine using biodiesel(Soybean oil) blended diesel fuel. The experimental fuel is composed of 30% biodiesel(Soybean) and 70% ULSD(Ultra low sulfur diesel) by volumetric ratio. The experiment of engine emissions and performance characteristics were performed under the various EGR rate. The experimental results show that ignition delay was extended with increasing EGR rate, and maximum combustion pressure and heat release gradually were decreased. Comparing biodiesel blended fuel and ULSD, the injection quantity of biodiesel blended fuel was more increased than ULSD. The emission results show that NOx emission of biodiesel blended fuel with increasing EGR rate shows more higher than that of ULSD. However, in the case of biodiesel blended fuel, HC, CO and soot emissions were decreased than that result of ULSD.
