Gene Expression Profile of the Posterior Silk Glands of the Silkworm, Bombyx mori L.

We constructed and analyzed a full-length cDNA library from the posterior silk gland (PSG) of the fifth instar larvae of the silkworm, Bombyx mori. A total of 3,840 clones were randomly selected, and the 5′ ends of the inserts were sequenced to generate 2,867 high-quality expressed sequence tags (EST). 544 unique ESTs (unigene) were generated after the assembly of 2,867 ESTs, which consisted of 309 single ESTs (singlets) and 235 redundant ESTs (contigs). The annotation of 544 unigenes by BLAST search revealed that 375 (68%) of the sequences represented known genes, whereas 169 (32%) of the sequences had no matches in the database. Of the 375 known genes, the most abundant genes were fibroin light chain gene (546 times) and elongation factor 1- gene (407 times). The functional groups of these ESTs with matches in the database were constructed according to their putative molecular functions. Among fourteen functional categories, the largest group was cellular organization (27%). We have performed a differential dot blot hybridization analysis on 544 unigenes using 32P-labled cDNA probes generated by the PSG of four-day-old fifth instar larvae and the PSG-removed whole body, respectively. Interestingly, although a B. mori hemocytin gene was not included in the most highly occurred EST group, it shows high-expression level when compared to that of the fibroin light chain gene as a control. Northern hybridization analysis showed that the hemocytin gene is higly expressed and widely distributed throughout all tissues examined.

We investigated the potential of electromyography (EMG) for diagnosing imbalance in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) to apply functional cerebrospinal therapy (FCST). The electromyography signals were measured in the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) in patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) while a FCST specialist conducted a restricted cervical rotation test. In addition, we also observed the changes in the electromyography signals according to pre-treatment or treatment with a TMJ balancing appliance (TBA), a customized TMJ balancing appliance (CBA), or a CBA with one paper bar. The right SCMs of the two patients with right TMJ imbalance had high EMG signals in the right cervical rotation test, while the left SCMs showed low EMG signals in the left rotation. In addition, the high EMG signals in the right SCMs decreased when using the TBA or the CBA, but the EMG signals of the left SCMs showed low EMG values during the treatments. Furthermore, the EMG signals of the right SCMs rose again after artificial imbalance of the right TMJ by the CBA with one paper bar. This case report demonstrated the potential of EMG as an objective diagnostic method for FCST.

We investigated the biological characteristics of the squid, Todarodes pacificus Steenstrup through the samples caught monthly in the Yellow Sea($32^{\circ}$ 30'N, $122^{\circ}E-37^{\circ}$ 30'N, $127^{\circ}E$) from 1985 to 1987. Monthly mantle length frequency were separated into Autumn spawning group and winter spawning group with Tanaka's method(1956) to determine the main group of the squids caught in the Yellow Sea. The ratio of winter spawning group was higher than that of autumn spawning group. Monthly gonadosomatic index of females increased on July in 1985, on October in 1986, and October in 1987 and decreased later in each year. That of males increased on June in 1985, on July in 1986, and June in 1987. The length of 50% group maturity of female was 20.7 cm mantle length(ML) in 1985, 17.9 cm ML in 1986, and 17.2 cm ML in 1987. The ratio of female was higher than that of male in the group over 24 cm ML, and the ratio of male was higher than that of female in the group under 24 cm ML. We concluded that the length of 50% group maturity of squids was affected by the density of the population status.

Causing by green house gas emission, global warming is being accelerated significantly. This global warming cause world climate to change quiet different than before and we call this phenomenon is Climate Change. Environmental Impact Assessment being implemented in Korea is to prevent predicted environmental impacts from deteriorating within the domestic information and situation. As the climate change is getting severe, new meteorological records can be occurred which is exceeded existing statistical data. According to KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) data, maximum value of precipitation and temperature in many regions changed with new data within last decade. And these events accompanied with landslides and flooding, and these also affected on water quality in rivers and lakes. According to impacts by climate change, disasters and accidents from heavy rain are the most apprehensive parts. And water pollution caused by overflowed non-point sources during heavy rain fall, fugitive dust caused by long-term drought, and sea level rise and Tsunami may affect on seaside industrial complex should be worth consideration. In this review, necessity of mutual consideration with influences of climate change was considered adding on existing guideline.
철근콘크리트 리브드 슬래브의 시스템인식기법에 의한 강성평가 연구

The ribbed half slab, which can resist heavier construction load and cause small deflection due to section efficiency, is one of the alternatives to extend the existing areas at the remodelling of apartment. In this study, system identification technique is applied to get more accurate differences of structural performances, such as load bearing capacity and stiffness, with the loading steps. The variables of test consist of the numbers of rib and placement of topping concrete and, two test stages which consist of static test and free vibration test at the intervals of static test steps, are performed. As the load-deflection relationships show the efficiency of rib, SI uses the eigenfrequency and mode shape as input data and the stiffness ratio for output results. The decreases of stiffness ratio for SC1, the specimen with the topping concrete is 34%, for SC2 with 3 ribs is 38% and for SC3 with 2 ribs is 31%. 공동주택의 리모델링에서 평면확장 시, 시공하중에 안전하고 처짐에 저항할 수 있도록 리브를 갖는 하프슬래브를 제안할 수 있으며, 이 연구에서는 기존 제안된 리브드 하프슬래브의 구조성능을 정확하게 추정하기 위하여 가력 단계별로 정적실험과 더불어 가속도계를 이용한 동적실험을 수행한 후, 시스템인식기법을 적용하여 강성을 비교 평가하였다. 실험체의 변수는 리브 개수와 토핑 콘크리트 타설로 하였으며, 정적실험 결과 리브의 효과를 확인하였으며, 시스템인식기법을 적용하기 위하여 자유진동실험을 수행하였다. 시스템인식기법에서 입력층은 고유진동수와 모드형상으로, 출력층은 부재강성지수로 구성하였다. 실험체별 가력 전과 가력 후의 강성지수 감소를 살펴보면 토핑콘크리트가 타설된 SC1가 34%, 리브가 3개인 SC2가 38%, 리브가 두 개인 SC3가 31%로 나타났다.

This study is to compare the codes of crack control in USA, Europe and Japan including Korea and verify the differences of material and mechanical characteristics of those provisions by applying to an example and previous test results. The example study calculating crack width shows that the increase of cover thickness is directly affected to the width of crack, and the outputs of Eurocode-2 and ACI have under estimated values compared to JSCE. Finally, it is shown that the average difference is about 20% between the results of other researcher’s test and the equations of crack width in this paper, this difference of which can be controlled at the stage of design and existing period of the structure. 이 연구에서는 우리나라를 포함한 유럽과 미국 일본 등의 균열제어 기준을 비교하고, 예제와 기존 실험결과에 적용하여 실제 균열식 및 제어에 요구되어지는 재료 및 역학적 특성의 차이를 규명하였다. 균열폭 제어의 관점에서 ACI기준보다 Eurocode-2와 JSCE가 더 많은 영향변수를 반영하고 있으며, 예제에 대한 균열제어기준을 적용한 결과, 모든 기준에서 피복두께가 증가하면서 균열폭이 증가하며, Eurocode-2와 ACI가 JSCE보다 상대적으로 균열폭을 과소평가하는 것으로 나타났다. 선행 균열실험연구와 균열제어식을 비교분석 결과 20% 전후의 오차가 발생하였지만, 실험오차, 계산식에서의 가정 사항, 특히 콘크리트 균열폭이 균열길이 방향으로 일정하게 발생하지 않는다는 점을 고려하면, 20% 전후의 오차는 안전율 등을 반영하여 합리적으로 처리될 수 있을 것으로 판단되었다.
