Human body is the organic holistic system, so its outer and inner parts are connected through meridian system which penetrates into five Zang organs and six Fu organs. Plastering therapy works on the superficial layer, so the medicine penetrates into the body. When it is absorbed, its stimulus is transmitted to Zangfu. Qi and blood circulation goes well, so it cures the disease. Of the plastering therapies, the plastering umbilicus therapy (which daubs the ointment on and near the umbilicus) is the way which makes use of the best point that absorbs the ointment easily, and this therapy has been used from the old days. These conclusions put together, the plastering therapy and internal therapy are used with the same principle. I think that the plastering umbilicus therapy, one of the plastering therapy, has been used for the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the umbilicus with the cost advantage. This therapy is effective for children's diarrhea. And it can be used wide for the disease with difficulty in internal use, and for the children who cannot take in internal medicine.

The present study was aimed to investigate whether glycyrrhizin, which is the major component of Glycyrrhiza uralensis, has an antioxidant effect and regulatory effect on Na,K-ATPase in gentamicin-induced acute renal failure (ARF) rats . It is well known that reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical, are main pathophysiological factor in gentamicin-induced ARF. Glycyrrhizin showed potent in vitro antioxidant activity, especially superoxide scavenging activity, in a dose-dependent manner. Plasma lipid peroxide level was restored to normal level by oral administration of glycyrrhizin (200 mg/kg) in the gentamicin-induced ARF rats. The expression of Na_(2)K-ATPase α 1 subunit was restored in the gentamicin-induced ARF rats by administration of glycyrrhizin, whereas β1 subunit was not restored. The renal functional parameters including urine volume, cleatinine clearance, urine osmolality, solute-free water reabroption were also partially restored in gentamidin-ARF rats by administration of glycyrrhizin. Taken together, the amelioration of renal functions and the expression of sodium pump by administration of glycyrrhizin in the gentamicin-induced ARF was appear to be mediated by the scavenging of ROS.
