A patient with encephalopathy associated with autoimmune thyroid disease (EAATD), which is one of the most important differential diagnoses of treatable dementia, presents with various neurological symptoms, such as repetitive epileptic seizures, altered mental status, and cognitive dysfunction. Steroid treatment is effective for EAATD. The incidence of EAATD increases considerably with age, particularly in female patients. Most patients with EAATD have normal thyroid function test results or mild hypothyroidism. Patients with EAATD with Graves’ disease are very rarely reported. Here, we report a case of a 63-year-old woman who complained of declining cognitive ability and ataxia. She was diagnosed with EAATD accompanied by Graves’ disease. Her neurological symptoms improved after intravenous steroid administration. (Korean J Med 2016;91:197-201)

To examine lateral earth pressure against fixed wall due to geometry of backfill, a model test was carried out. Soil box (180×75×80mm), 2-directional load cell and rainer were made for this test. And Sumjin river sand as backfill materal was placed in the backfill space with different geometries and relative densities. This test result was compared with the extended Silo theory(Chung et at, 1997) and Jaky's lateral pressure at rest. The comparative results are as follows : When the bottom width between the model wall and the stable slope is narrow, the experimental pressure agree well with that of the extended theory, independent of inclinations of wall and stable slope. However, when the width is not narrow, ie, when Bc/H is larger then 0.333, the experimental pressure is preferably close to the Jaky's lateral pressure at rest. The angle of wall friction have an important effet on the experimental lateral pressure, as wall as bottom width. The wall friction angle was measured the peak at lower placing height, and just after that the value is roughly constant up to the residual state.

Coulomb's theory has been usually used in practice for design of retaining walls. This theory assumed that the lateral earth pressure was a triangular distribution, because the point of applying the thrust could not be abtained straightforward. However, the results of laboratory and filed tests proved that the lateral earth pressure was not a triangular distribution. In this study, for gravity walls with inclined backface, backfilled by c-ø soils with inclined surface, an analytical method for earth pressure has been derived. This method applied the flat arching concept and the Coulomb's wedge, under drained condition, for the cases of considering tension crack. In addition, this paper is dealt with comparing the new analytical solution with existed theories for some cases.

Usually, Many Engineers have used predicting the settlement and displacement using linear elastic modulus(E_(50) calculated by the conventional triaxial test results. But it is results are very diffemt from those of field, which follows deffent stress path and nonlinear behaviour. Therefore, to investigate the dependence of stress path with the variation of confining pressure and relative density on Sum-Jin River sand, local strain triaxial tests are preformed. It is showed as follows ; For the same stress path condition, the stiffness increased with increasing confining pressure and relative density, especially it is more affected by confining pressure. From the relations between Young's modulus and axial strain showed all nonlinear-elastic behaviour and independent on testing conditions, such as, confining pressure, relative density and stress path, etc. The mount of stiffness at very small strain range showed very high value and linear elastic behaviour. And compression results are rather overestimated than that of extention.
