Pretreatment of the methanolic extract(250-500mg/kg, p.o., two weeks) of Lysimachiae Herba prevented the elevation of ALT and AST activities in galactosamine(GalN, 400 mg/kg, i.p.) intoxicated rats. Its five fractions, especially the ethyl acetate fraction, also showed significant preventing actions on damaged liver metabolizing enzyme functions by GalN intoxication.

To elucidate the activities of Uncaria Ramulus et Uncus, which has been used as anticonvulsant and antihypertensive in oriental region, the methanolic extract and its fractions were applied to inhibition of convulsion onset. The ethyl acetate fraction showed dose-dependent inhibitory activity against pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure.
Testosterone에 의한 승홍의 신독성 유발에 의한 연구

Mercuric chloride, inorganic compound, is one of the most important drugs that has been used in the field of argriculture, antisyphilitica and anticeptics, but it is not used clinically at present. We have studied the effect of testosterone on the mercuric chlorideinduced nephrotoxicity. Renal lipid peroxide concentration of male rat treated with mercuric chloride was significantly increased in comparison with that of the female rat, it showed similar effects on testosterone pretreatment. Changes in renal catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities were not siginificantly different in testosterone-treated groups. But, renal xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase activities of testrosterone-treated group given mercuric chloride significantly increased in comparison with that of the testosterone-treated alone. Animals treated with testosterone prior to mercuric chloride showed more severe damage on histological observations than those treated with testosterone only. Consequently, we suggest that the mercuric chloride-induced nephrotoxicity might be renal lipid peroxide generating enzyme system by testosterone.

Mercuric chloride, in inorganic compound, is one of the most important drugs that has been used in the argricultural drug, antisyphilitica and anticeptic, but it's not use clinical field at present time. We have studied the mechanism by examing the effect of sex-different on the mercuric chloride-induced nephrotoxicity. Blood urea nitrogen(BUN) level, urinary lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) activities of male rats give mercuric chloride significantly increased in comparison with that of the female rats. But, r-glutamyltransferase(r-GT) activity of male rats give mercuric chloride slightly increased in comparison with that of the female rats. Renal nonprotein-bound sulfhydryl, glutathione concentration of male rats significantly decreased in comparison with that of the female rats given mercuric chloride, but protein-bound sulhydryl concentration was not affected. kidney to body weight ratio of male rats subsequent increased in comparison with that of the female rats given mercuric chloride. These result suggested that nephrotoxicity of mercuric chloride in sex difference caused distal tubule necrosis on kidney.

Iron Nitrilitriacetate(FeNTA)의 신 조직 손상에 관한 연구

Nitrilotriacetic acid(NTA) is a synthetic amino polycarboxylic acid chelating agent. It has a high affinity for aluminium and rare earth and alkali earth metals. NTA has been used various countries as a substitute for polyphosphates in houshold detergents to reduce or reverse eutrophication. Renal lipid peroxide concentration of mouse on kidney treated with FeNTA was significantly increased in comparison with that of the normal. Blood urea nitrogen(BUN) level and urinary γ-glutamyltransferase(γ-GT) activity of mice given FeNTA significantly increased in comparison with that of control. But urinary lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) activity was not affected any other conditions. Renal protein bound-SH and glutathione concentration of male mice given FeNTA significantly decreased in comparison with that of control mice. These result suggest that nephrotoxicity of FeNTA caused proximals tubule necrosis on kidney of male mice.
