Catalytic combustion type sensor was fabricated for alcohol detection, and its characteristics were tested. When the resistance of Pt coil for pellistor is 2.0 ohm, suggestible input power to bridge circuit was about 300 mW for methanol detection, and in the range from 350 mW to 400 mW for ethanol. Pellistors were prepared by means of impregnating Pt or Pd on the γ-alumina bead for sensing element, and transition metals such as Co₃O₄, Fe₂O₃ for compensating element.

It is very important to improve the combustion efficiency and reduce pollutant emission in order to save energy and environment. Especially, thermal NOx has been reduced through monitoring burner flame, because the thermal NOx is strongly related to flame characteristics. In this work, a flame-monitoring system was fabricated with photodiode, optical fiber, interference filter and data acquisition system, and it was applied to a lab-scale methane combustion system and a testing facility. Flame intensity and mean frequency increased with increasing turbulent intensity and fuel loading. The sensor signal from flame fluctuations differed from that without flame, which showed the availability of the flame scanner to find the presence of flame. NOx emissions increased with flame intensity.

Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is the most commonly used phthalate ester in polyvinyl chloride formulations including food packing and storage of human blood. DEHP is a well known as non-genotoxic carcinogen and endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC). DEHP have shown all negative results in ICH-guildeline recommended standard genotoxicity test battery. In this study, to assess the clastogenic and DNA damaging effect in human-derived tissue specific cells, DEHP was treated in human derived MCF-7 cells, HepG2 cells, LNCap cells, BeWo cells, MCF-10A cells, and female peripheral blood cells using micronucleus assay and in human<br/> breast carcinoma MCF-7 cells up to 1.28×10-²M using Comet assay. The in vitro micronucleus assay is a mutagenicity test system for the detection of chemicals which induce the formation of small membrane bound DNA fragment i.e. micronuclei in the cytoplasm of interphase cells, originated from clastogenic and/or aneugenic<br/> mechanism. The single cell gel electrophoresis assay (Comet assay) is used to detect DNA strand-breaks and alkaline labile site. In our results, DEHP increased significantly and/or dose-depentently and time-dependently micronucleus frequency at the 6 and 24 hr without metabolic activation system only in MCF-7 cells. DEHP treated with 2 hrs in MCF-7 cells using Comet assay induced DNA damage dose-depentantly.

석탁액화시 나무, 리그닌, 흑액 등 바이오매스계 첨가제의 효과를 실험식적 규모의 고온, 고압 반응기에서 고찰하였다. 석탄액화시 리그닌계의 첨가는 석탁의 분해를 돕고, 액체생성물의 질을 높여준다. 400℃에서는 마루를 첨가하게 되면, 액체생성물이 8%정도 증가하지만, 그이상의 온도에서는 기체생성물의 증가로 액체생성물 수율이 줄어든다. 흑액은 액화수율을 증대시키기는 하지만, 그 증가율은 NaOH만을 첨가시킨 경우보다 낮았으며, OH의 존재 때문에 흑액중의 리그닌이 주는 효과가 그리 크지 않은 것으로 보인다. The effects of some additives (black liquor, wood and lignin) on the conversion of coal and product were investigated in the lab-scale, high pressure reacting system around 375t. The addition of lignin<br/> to coal during liquefaction significantly increased the depolymerization of coal and enhanced the quality of the liquid products. Coprocessing of wood and coal at 400 t increased yield of liquid product about 8%, but higher temperature above 400 'c reduced liquid product due to increase of gas products. The addition of black liquor resulted in an enhancement in coal conversion yields, however, the observed increase is lower than that obtained in the presence of NaOH because lignin present in black liquor is not very effective due to the OH presence.

To identify nongenotoxic carcinogen determined as negative by ICH guideline-recommended standard genotoxicity test battery; Ames test, chromosome aberrration assay, mouse lymphoma tk+/- assay, in vivo micronucleus assay, we picked bisphenol A as a model compound. In this study, we applied in vitro BalB/c 3T3 cell transformation assay and Syrian hamster embryo (SHE) cell transformation assay. Bisphenol A was treated upto 769.2 ug/ml in BalB/c 3T3 cells and upto 125 ug/ml in SHE cells. bisphenol A didn't induced morphological transformation both with one stage treatment protocol and with two stage treatement protocol. But, treated for 48 hr, Bisphenol A induced morphological transformation significantly in SHE cells.

A search program which use only free energies of formation has been developed to find new thermochemical cycles as means of producing hydrogen and oxygen from water. The searching procedures are described and some closed thermochemical cycles from this program are presented here.
