Glutathione-S-transferase와 esterase 효소 저해특성을 이용한 농약의 혼합 상승효과

In vitro inhibitory activity of 34 insecticides and 31 fungicides to glutathione-S-transferase and esterases extracted from rats was determined. Of tested pesticides, the pesticides with high activity on both detoxifying enzymes were mixed with pesticides that are known to be detoxified by detoxifying enzymes. Glutathione-S-transferase was inhibited by thiodicarb (I??: 1.87×10?⁴M), thiocyc1am (7.40×10?⁴M), dithianon (7.55×10??M), and tolylfluanide (8.66×10??M), while esterases by dichlorvos (8.95×10??M), pirimicarb (2.74×10??M), pyrazophos (3.31×10??M), and benomyl (4.96×10??M). After acephate known to be detoxified by glutathione-S-transferase was mixed with glutathione-S-transferase-inhibiting pesticides and phenthoate known to be detoxified by esterases was mixed with esterases-inhibiting pesticides, insecticidal activities of such mixtures were determined against diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.). Synergistic action was observed in all pesticide combinations. The highest synergistic action was obtained when phenthoate was combined with dichlorvos, showing that co-toxicity coefficients were 1512 and 1877 after 24 and 48 hours of treatment, respectively. Several other combinations of pesticides, such as phenthoate with benomyl, and acephate with dithianon, also showed synergism, showing that their co-toxicity coefficients were about 1,000 and 500, after 24 hours of treatment, respectively. Our results showed that combinations of pesticides inhibited by detoxifying enzymes and ones detoxified by detoxifying enzymes resulted in increased toxicities of pesticides, suggesting that such combinations could be used to develop pesticide mixtures with more broad spectrum and high effectiveness.

Oxidative stress, which is induced by free radicals, causes various pathophysiological problems in the body. Natural essential oils derived from aromatic plants such as lavender and rosemary are used as additives in foods and cosmetics because of their aroma and antioxidant effects. The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidant activity of natural essential oils from Korean endemic plants. Natural essential oils including Mentha piperascens, Teucrium veronicoides, Citrus unshiu Peel, Angelica gigas Nakai, Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Artemisia annua L., Houttuynia cordata Thunb, Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum, Chrysanthemum morifolium, and Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz. were extracted by steam distillation extraction method, respectively. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)hydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline- 6-sulphonic acid) methods were performed to measure the free radical scavenging activity of each essential oil. We found that the essential oils from the Asteraceae family including Dendranthema zawadskii var. latilobum and Chrysanthemum morifolium showed more potent antioxidant activity than those from other plants. Our findings suggest that natural essential oils derived from Asteraceae family have free radical scavenging activity, which may be explored in the prevention of health problems.

Disc displacement in temporomandibular joint surgery has been troublesome. Problems-migration, foreign body reation, bony erosion, secondary pain & swelling, fragmention etc.-have occured. The autogenous graft, rather than alloplastic materials, may be the material of choice when replacement of the temporomandibular joint disc is indicated. The technique and results of replacement of the articular disc by autogenous ear cartilage are presented. In the three patients-five joint-operated with a follow up from eleven to twelve months, all patient were improved in postoerative symptoms, mouth opening ranges and jaw functions. The autogenous ear cartilage appeared to be a suitable autogenous tissue graft, maintaining its viability and functioning as an interpositioning material between the condyle and fossa.
한국인 류마티스 관절염 환자에서 질병 중증도 표지자로서의 HLA-DR4 유용성

Objective: To investigate HLA-DR4, its subtype and shared epitope as a severity marker in Korean patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Methods: One hundred thirty-six RA patients were typed for HLA DR4 and HLA-DRB1 alleles by the polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific probe method. The patients were retrospectively evaluated for extra-articular features, presence of remission, and joint failure. Bony erosion score was assessed by Sharp`s method with modification. Results: Patients with HLA-DR4 had significantly higher prevalence of extra-articular features compared to those without the allele. However, there was no association of HLA-DR4, HLA-DRB1*0405 and shared epitope with rate of remission, joint failure, and bony erosion score. Eighty-two percent of patients were rheumatoid factor positive. With seropositive patients only, the results were the same as those above. Conclusion: HLA-DR4, HLA-DRB1*0405 and shared epitope are not a severity marker in Korean patients with RA in terms of radiological score, rate of joint failure, and rate of clinical remission. Data from this study do not support the clinical use of HLA-DR4 typing as a prognostic marker in Korean patients with RA.

Many alloplastic materials have been used as the bony substitute in large bony defects causer fracture, periodontitis, & cyst, etc. Nowadays Hydroxyapatite(HAP) is the most usable material as bony substitute. The reasonable properties of HAP are nontoxic, biocompatible to host tissues & have osteoconductivity Other bioceramic materials are recommended as the bony substitute with high success rate. We have studied the clinical use of HAP as the bony substitute in the defected area caused by The results 8r, successful results are obtained. The results were as followed. 1. Better prognosis was obtained in the cases of HAP 8r bone mixed graft than HAP graft only. the best prognosis was obtained in the case of iliac bone graft. 2. Better prognosis was obtained in Mx. than in Mn. 3. It seems that the soft tissue ingrowth into the HAP granule play an important role in the success of the HAP graft. 4. Though the flap covering the HAP granules was perforated, the relative good prognosis was obtained by re - suturing the perforeated site.
