We were interested in the long-term temporal and spatial variability trends of water quality. Trend tests, such as the Seasonal and Regional Kendall tests and LOWESS (LOcally WEighted Scatter-plot Smoother), have been recommended as outstanding tools for trend detection. In this study, we conducted four types of nonparametric trend tests (Seasonal and Regional Kendall tests, LOWESS, and flow-adjusted Seasonal Kendall). We aimed to identify water quality trends using the monthly data for five variables (BOD, COD, TN, TP, and flow) collected from 24 sites in the Nakdong River from August 2004 to December 2013. According to the Regional Kendall test, BOD, COD, and TN increased but TP decreased trend. The Seasonal Kendall test showed that BOD, TN, and TP remained constant at 62.5-83.3% of the sites. COD remained constant at 58.3% of the sites. LOWESS showed that TP gradually increased between 2007 and 2008, then decreased slowly at the Gumi, Geumhogang6, Daeam-1 and Milyanggang3 sites. BOD increased slightly between 2008 and 2009, and then decreased slowly at the Namgang4-1 site. Lastly, a flow-adjusted Seasonal Kendall test was conducted. There were different results from the Seasonal Kendall and flow-adjusted Seasonal Kendall tests at 11 of the 24 sites. According to the results from six of the eleven sites, BOD increased at one site, showed no trends at three sites, and decreased at two sites. Each of COD, TN increased at two, and one site. but TP decreased at two sites.

Currently, China is the number one country of producing and exporting textile in the world in terms of productivity and the market scale. As the result of analyzing technology, price competitiveness of the Chinese textile industry, China has marked dramatic increase in the field of technology competitiveness such as the quality level as well as the growth in terms of manufacturing scale. Regarding the price competitiveness, its price competitiveness is higher than those of developed countries such as the United States, Korea, Japan and Italy. However, Textile industry of late developers such as India, Indonesia and Vietnam rapidly grow and price competitiveness of China decreases due to rise of the value of the Chinese currency, the yuan. Main tasks of the Chinese textile industry in the future will be; effort for technology innovation, enforcement of brand strategies and opening of the domestic markets.

In this study, the reduction rates of nutrients were suggested to prevent eutrophication on the Hwaong reservoir in the year of 2008 and 2012. With EPA`s WASP6 model, future water quality were simulated. In 2008, T-N would be 1.36mg/L and T-P 0.100mg/L on average. ; In 2012, T-N 2.66mg/L and T-P 0.128mg/L. With all the water quality management plans that the government authorities are carrying out, these results indicate that the reservoir would be reach the eutrophic or hypertrophic state according to the Vollenweider`s trophic states. Therefore, the Hwaong reservoir requires additional plans for nutrients management. Here, the target water quality to prevent eutrophication of the reservoir sets into mesotrophic state ; T-N 0.475mg/L and T-P 0.02mg/L.(median of Vollenweider index for mesotropphic state) The reduction rates of nutrients on Namyang and Eoeun streams were estimated with uniform treatment method to meet the goal. The results showed that nutrients from two streams should be reduced up to 78% in 2008, and 84% in 2012. Since the ratio of T-N/T-P would be higher than 16 at target years, T-N was not considered as the limiting factor and was not reduced.

In this study, we investigate whether FDI and trade flows are complements or substitutes. Using cross-country time series data for the period 1992-2014, we analyse by panel 2SLS estimation the trade effects of korea’s FDI, particularly on the Asian textile industry. The main empirical findings are as follows: First, our results indicate that outward FDI plays an positive role in increasing Korea’s exports and imports of the textile and clothing products, supporting the hypothesis that FDI and home country trade are complements. This result is consistent with vertical model in which home country exports intermediary products to host country and imports finished products from host country. Second, estimating the influence of FDI on the trade balance, the negative relationship between the outward FDI and the trade balance is found, implying that reimportation effect of FDI is stronger than export inducement effect of FDI. This finding suggests that the larger Korean outward FDI leads to the deficit of trade balance in the textile industry.

This paper assesses the effects of the textile quotas phase-out by the US on Korea's textile and clothing exports. The Quotas removal has altered the competitiveness of individual exporting countries, leading to trade creation and concentration of textile exporters. There is no doubt that China, Vietnam and India gain market shares in the world textile market to a significant extent. All other developing countries like Mexico, Korea lost out in the world market. The effects of quotas phase out on Korea's exports are evaluated using a panel of 20 annual observation(1989-2008) over 5 textile sectors. Our major findings can be summarized as follows. First, strong evidence is found from panel regressions that the end of textile quotas of the US has negative significant effect on Korea's textile exports to US. Second, the change of exchange rate and RCA has a positive effect on Korea's textile exports. The results indicate that Korea's textile and clothing industries are adversely affected by the quotas removal of the US with significant reductions of textile exports.

This paper focuses on the effect of the Korea-EU FTA on foreign direct investment to and from Korea. Using cross-country time series for the period covering 1999-2014, we analyze the effect of FTA on FDI. The main empirical findings are as follows: First, Korea-EU FTA had a positive effect on FDI outflows from Korea, while it did not have a statistically significant effect on FDI inflows in Korea. This finding indicates that the FTA may help promote Korea’s outward FDI, but may not help increase inward FDI into Korea. Second, estimating the influence of GDP on FDI, the positive relationship between the GDP and FDI is found, implying that GDP has a positive impact on inward and outward FDI. The current findings suggest that FTA plays a particularly important role in FDI outflows. It appears that GDP was more important as a stimulus to inward FDI than FTA
