Optimum Manufacturing Processes of Micro-drill

Resently, reduction of industrial products in size and weight has increased by the application of micro-drill for gadgets of high precision and gave rise to a great interest in a micro-drilling. Due to the lack of tool stiffness and the chip packing, micro-drilling requires not only the robust tool structure which has not affected by the vibration, but also the effective drilling methods designed to prevent tool fracture from cutting troubles. Firstly, this paper presents a new manufacturing process of micro-drill for improving the product rate and an optimum shape of micro-drill for lengthening the tool life, and secondly suggests between tool life and drilling torque acquired in the inprocess monitoring system.

The manufacturing processes of the frame of spectacles are generally handled because not only characterize multi-process and small lot-size type with multi-different products but also have lower product life cycle. Resently, industrial products in size and weight has to be required, in order to apply user requirement, the manufacturing systems to be adopted spectacles are desired with flexible typed production system coped with lower production life cycle. This paper presents a new manufacturing process of the frame of spectacles for improving the product rate and an optimum shape for enhancing the production life, and secondly estimates the quality of surface, the dimensional accuracy, and production time.

Consider a tetrahedron is composed of six dihedral angles φ i(i=1,2, …, 6), and a vertex of a tetrahedron is also three dihedral angles. It will be assumed that a vertex A, for an example, is composed of three angles defined such as α, β, and γ, and then there is a corresponding angle can be given as φ1, φ2, φ3. Here, in order to differentiate between a conventional triangle and dihedral angle, if a dihedral angle defined in this paper is symbolized as φA, the value of cos θ of φA, in a in a trigonometric function rule, can be defined to tecos φA, in a trigonometric function rule, can be defined to tecos φA and it is defined as a tetradedral cosineφ or simply called a tecosφ. Moreover, in a simillar method, the dihedral angle of tetrahedron φA is given as: value of sinθ of φA can define a tetra-sin φA, and value of tan θ of φA is a tetra-tan φA. By induction it can derive that a tetrahedral geometry on the basis of suggesting a geometric tetrahedron.

In grinding operations, one of the most important problems is to increase efficiency of process. In order to achive this purpose, it is necessary to administer the tool life of grinding wheel and to optimize grinding conditions. Frequently dressing result in lowering the process efficiency remarkably and makes production cost high. On the other hand, grinding with a worn wheel causes the workpiece surface roughness to increase and then results in the occurrence of such troubles as chatter vibration and burning.

Firstly, this paper presents a optimum design shape of 0.15㎜ microdrill in consideration of new manufacturing processes for improving the product rate and lengthening the tool life, and secondly suggests between microdrilling characteristic properties and tool life in consideration with workpiece quality.
